In an effort to keep my feet dry (and tinea at bay) from daily showering of residents at work, I've gone through several iterations of gums boots this past year. Most did the job but soon cracked, split and none were comfortable to wear for 4 hours straight, just serviceable. A colleague turned up one morning with a pair of your boots and said she purchased them for a holiday in Europe because she wanted to be dry AND comfortable. That was enough to have me give them a go. They did not disappoint: my feet stay dry, the traction on wet tile floors is great and they are very comfortable ! I’ve had these boots for several months now and they’re great. The chestnut and ice colourway is so chic and versatile, thank you for making this colour combo! I have wide feet so removed the insoles for a better fit, without having to size up. I can attest to the boots being 100% waterproof when walking through mud, puddles and in light/regular rainfall however unfortunately they are NOT waterproof in heavy rainfall with strong winds. Last night I wore my boots walking through the Sydney CBD in very strong winds. The exposed parts of the neoprene lining (on the sides and top part of the boots) got wet and the rain also got into the back of the boot opening. I’m considering getting the taller Darcy mid calf boots which might look nicer when worn this way.

The fit is perfect and they are comfortable to walk all over town in - no blisters even on the first wear. They are easy to pull on and off. They look great and go well with most things in my wardrobe - I have even worn them to work. Firstly I’d like to say that the Merry People customer service is brilliant. Based on the online size guide I initially ordered the 37, but when they arrived they were too small. I know they advise a snug fit but this was painful, even with insoles removed. Anyway, exchange process was quick and easy. When my 38s arrived I popped them on with much excitement for the school run. After a few minutes it became apparent that the left boot was slipping and felt larger all round. I’ve tried thick sheepskin insoles and double socks on my left foot (which I don’t believe is any smaller than my right) but the left boot is still slipping and uncomfortable. Very strange but seeing as I wore them outside I have to deal with it - which I completely understand. Despite this, the boots took less than a week to arrive (Brisbane).When I measured my feet, they were borderline between a size 5 and 6. After reading comments about how the material stretches a little, I opted for the size down (5). When I got my boots, I found they were initially a bit small for my feet, and they did pinch my toes. But then took the insoles out and decided to see if they could be worn in a little. Now the rubber has stretched, I have slipped the insoles back in. It is a snug fit, but moderately comfy. I have also learnt to wear longer socks with these boots, because initially the wetsuit material rubbed on my ankle.I was reading other comments about how the boot gets hot and how it is a bit heavier than other shoes, but don’t think that really bothers me.Overall despite needing to have a bit of patience with these boots, I really like the design and the idea of a versatile waterproof boot. Sometimes look forward to the rain now, as I can walk around and my feet won’t get wet. My work colleague saw me wearing my Merry People boots and said that I inspired her to wear her boots more too!

Sizing wise I found them the same as my trainers, but I like my shoes snug, and wore these with regular socks. Easy to slide on and off, the tags are handy. If you think you're going to wear thicker socks, may want to consider a half size up I reckon.

I decided against this and opted to return for a size 40 as I might not want woolly socks in the warmer months. I also opted for a bright colour at this time. The exchange process was swift and efficient. I took my return parcel to Post Office Friday, my new boots arrived Monday! With the updated style the sole has deeper traction. Much more secure in the slippery mud of the dog parks. However, it does mean the soles can collect a lot of sticky mud. I deposit my boots outside the front door, and armed with a tough scrubbing brush and running water, they clean up really well in the laundry trough. Then after reading on their website how they don’t do discounts because they offer a top quality product, but then discounted one shoe they were discontinuing and proceeded to refund anyone the difference who had bought that in recent months, I was immediately sold. I respect their ethics big time! Wish I bought them sooner. They’re so comfy. We didn’t have a driveway for months so I was carting my 1 year old twins over mud to get them from the house to the car and vice versa.
