Bodum Bistro Electric Water Kettle, 34 Ounce, 1 Liter, Black

This is the 2nd Bodum electric kettle I have bought. The 1st one lasted for years but then the automatic shut-off switch stopped working. I dealt with it for a while but was worried I would forget to manually switch it off and the kettle would burn up. Started looking for another one and found it at Wayfair. Got free shipping and a 3 day delivery so it was a very good deal. The kettle is almost identical to my old one except for a few minor changes.

I just love the look of this electrical tea kettle but the plastic top is made very poorly and broke. There is a tiny plastic piece that hold the top together and automatically shuts off the unit when the water starts to boil. Now that it’s broken the kettle won’t shut off on its own and can potentially be a huge safety problem. It’s too bad cause I barely used it and was always so careful.

This kettle seems to lack the quality I expect from Bodum. It’s made of plastic, I was expecting it to be stainless steel. It’s very basic, doesn’t customize temperature, but the price is probably reflective of its quality. I’m returning it because I’d rather spend a bit more for a kettle that will last a long time and not be made with compromised quality.

After purchasing this product in December 2022, it fell off my work station onto carpeting. The top broke and I was not able to put back as the other reviewer Chant on 3/01/21 stated that because plastic pieces holding up the lid broke off cannot put top back on which creates safety hazard as it will not automatically shut off. It does look good and perfect size for my workstation, but ultimately not worth the money.

This product is great for the price. I have never had any issues with it heating water properly. It is relatively fast, which is nice. The biggest downside to this kettle is there are no options for different water temperatures like more expensive kettles have. However, for $20 this kettle is great, especially if you aren't concerned with having multiple water temperatures.

It is such a great item!!! This electrical water heater is super cool, I do not just have the water ready for my coffee or tea in less than a minute, but also help me to cook my soups and meals faster, i know there are much more fancy or modern water heaters in the market, however comparing quality - price, this is more than enough! I also love the simplicity in the design!

Great kettle!

i have had this kettle for more than a year. We use it frequently and it still works well. The comes to a rolling boil in a couple of minutes. Perfect for tea. For years we boiled water on the stovetop and had too many instances where we forgot and boiled the kettle dry. I decided for safety to buy this. It shuts off as soon as it comes to a boil. Since it shuts off automatically, the worst thing that can happen is the water going cold. I recently bought the same kettle for my daughter to use at college; she loves it. This kettle goes on sale every so often, and that is the best time to purchase it.

Lid broke after a year.

This hot water kettle worked fine, but I'm giving it one star because the lid broke after a year of daily use (one of the plastic pegs that holds the lid in place just snapped off, so the lid falls into the kettle when you try to open it). The kettle just sat on my counter so nothing stressful happened to it, which implies a poorly made device.I also was beginning to question if I really wanted to be drinking hot water out of plastic for chemical and bacteria reasons. The fact that the steam weakened the plastic on the lid to the point of snapping validated this concern. I'll be switching to ceramic or stainless steel kettles going forward.

Saves Counter Space; Doesn’t Look Like Coffee Pot

Didn’t realize it wasn’t one piece and was VERY happy to realize it comes off the base and I can carry the pitcher to other rooms. I like that it looks neither like an old coffee pot nor like the more utilitarian electric water heaters. It heats quickly and has a smaller footprint, takes up less counter space, because it’s not rounded. Very happy.
