There is a small silicone plug, sealing a hole in the bottom. The air space is a vacuum, like a thermos. Neat design. Having to take 1 star off because that wasn't in the package and there's some odd chemical exposure problem if the pieces in this product aren't washed/dried first (see the currently included CA Prop 65 Warning). Anyway, the tea filter fits inside of a taller tea-filter (stainless steel) I already have, and it helps to make the soy milk filtering process I use much easier. So, I'm still giving this 4/5 stars! I can probably use the tea filter for other things than tea or soy milk too, just not with boiling hot water (so everything I filter, if I wanted it boiling hot, would have to be heated beyond warm-ish after being filtered, not before). Overall, this is a very nice but delicate product, and honestly, I wouldn't put it in a dishwasher even if the product page does currently state that it's dishwasher safe. Washing by hand, while also precarious, would probably be the better approach. Maybe do this in an empty sink with a thick, cloth towel on the bottom, and have a bowl of warm, soapy water off to the side, and use an appropriate sponge or scrubber. I did this like normal after finally finding the wash/dry instruction the product page, and nearly dropped the glass several times during washing, because of the soap in the water. It's awkward to hold, at least for me, while washing. Keeping it placed on a thick towel might help to prevent damage from dropping it or whatever. Honestly though, I think the inside wall of the cup should have been stainless steel, and the outside should have been food-grade, BPA-free thick plastic, with an air-space in between the walls for insulation. That might also make it easier to have a lid that snaps on and stays put regardless of whether there's a tea strainer inside the cup or not. One last thought: If the tea strainer could also snap or screw on and stay put, and if it had a little plastic mesh "sip filter" at the top (in the black plastic ring), that would make tea sipping easy.
We have a lot of tea lovers in my family. This is literally the perfect gift. Itās so easy to use and it doesnāt take up much space at all. All you have to do is add your favorite tea to the infuser section, then add hot water and it brews on its own! You just literally sit and wait for a little bit and then itās ready to drink. Itās also double-walled so you wonāt burn your hands when you hold it. I would recommend this product. So far there have been no issues and again, the ease of it is what really sells it as a great gift! No one likes a complicated gift. This is as easy as they come.

I can put the amount of dried or fresh ingredients in the infuser that I wish and the infuser strains out all the pieces. The strainer is easy to clean and so is the glass. Another thing I love is that when your tea is ready to sip...take the cover off and set the infuser on the cover. The lip on the underside of the cover keeps table or countertop surfaces free from drips the tea may have left in it. I highly recommend this single serve Bodum Tea maker! It is really neat! I use this daily when I get up in the morning I make me a cup of tea and this makes it so much easier. I have tried many other tea makers like this and none compares to this one! I bought another one so I can make a cup of tea for my husband as well and he is fascinated with how wells this works as well. It keep your tea warn also which is nice. This tea maker is dishwasher safe as well. I really like how this has a strainer built into it. I use only loose tea for this but I am sure you could put a teabag into it as well.

The glass held up fine in the dishwasher on the top rack. I've been trying to drink more tea and less soda and I wanted to try and make my own tea blends. This type of cup works well for loose leaves. The screen didn't allow any bits into the water on the two cups I've tried to far. It was pretty easy to clean out the mesh screen as well but running my sink spray nozzle over the mesh upside down. I also like the simple black top. It helps keep the tea hot while I'm slowly drinking it or it's a convenient place to put the strainer once I've taken that out of the cup.
