They have saved my sanity for the time being, living here. I put them on and there's just .... quiet. My jaw literally dropped and my eyes popped when I first heard how much sound it cuts out. I had a fan on high speed and a loud wall clock ticking and *WHOOSH* the sounds disappeared. I also live directly under a flight path in the city and they certainly take the edge off ear-bleeding commercial jet noise, I reckon 55-65%.

I’m someone who values, rather depends upon, my quiet time in order to be present for my family, friends, job etc. Enter these Bose noise cancelling headphones…whoa! They are perfectly comfortable on my head and stay put without bothering me in the slightest. Sooo much better than trying to keep earbuds in my ears. I’d wear these 24/7 if I could. As to the noise cancelling: well…that is a tough order to fill in this house. I can hear the dogs barking and my daughter-in-law telling the dogs not to bark while on ‘quiet’ BUT it is noticeably reduced. More what I would consider ‘aware’ mode and, believe me, I made myself read everything to be sure I was working the buttons correctly. In other instances (and decibel realms, lol) I am completely unaware of noises…like my husband asking if I need more coffee. Thankfully we’ve worked out a way for me not to miss getting my cup refilled even if I am blissfully ensconced in my happy place-headphones on and zen in progress. I absolutely LOVE being able to listen to the music/podcast/audiobook that restores and invigorates me while I cook dinner, clean up or zone out. It really and truly is saving me and the relationships that matter the most to me-among them, my relationship with myself. Thank you BOSE!!!

Bose Q45 - no real improvement over 35 II

You can’t turn off the noise canceling and just listen to music? I loved this feature with Q35 and I’m honestly shocked they only have ‘aware’ mode which is annoying and loud and sounds horrible! I don’t want ANC on all the time, and the aware mode makes noise sharp and loud (can’t hear music).2. The ANC sharpens/amplifies abrupt noise. What I’ve come to learn is the ANC (active noise cancelling) picks up abrupt noises SO much more than the Q35s. I feel like the headphones amplify or sharpen certain frequencies and I have to yank my headphones off due to keep them from damaging my ears. For example, weights clashing around, dishes being moved, conversations from people around you, music in the background of a store, really any loud sudden sound etc are all amplified and make me jump. These are all sounds I wanted to cancel… not amplify. This is the primary reason I want to return these and try the Sony set- I am super sensitive to jarring sounds like this and the fact that the headphones sharpen these noises even more is super upsetting. I don’t notice the same sharpening of abrupt noise with the bose Q35 II. I know that ANC is designed to cut out more consistent droning noises (e.g air conditioner, planes), but it’s a super unfortunate result of better ANC perhaps? Anyways I find it extremely jarring and the Q35II never had this issue…I personally wouldn’t recommend these to anyone- but may be OK for people who want to use them for online meetings or for people working in fields where they need ear protection?

Comfortable? yes! Quiet? Meh

My wife and I bought these for a long flight to Hawaii, as we wanted to make sure we had a good experience without too much outside noise disturbing us.We previously had AirPods Max, but sold them as the aluminum ear housings didn’t allow your ears to breathe at all and were not comfortable to wear long term because of the heat they trapped in. A northern winter, the AirPods would be perfect as they could double as earmuffs, living in the south, not so much. So, the first thing I noticed was that Bose nailed the “Comfort” part of this design. A northern winter, the AirPods would be perfect as they could double as earmuffs, living in the south, not so much. So, the first thing I noticed was that Bose nailed the “Comfort” part of this design. The breathable plastic with soft memory foam ear cushions really made it easy to wear these for long periods of time without any real discomfort. Now, with Bose, they have a unique sound and even if you don’t like their sound, you likely wouldn’t describe it as one dimensional or even the close to the worst you’ve ever heard. The QC 45s just aren’t quite up to the QC 35s that I had the pleasure of trying in the past. Is the sound decent? Yeah it is, but the ambience just doesn’t have as much room for individual elements to breathe with these, and they’re just not up to the standard I have come to expect for Bose. Are they horrible? No I wouldn’t say that, their sound is just more flat than I’m used to and you will want to use an EQ to tune them for sure.As for noise cancelling, it is okay but it isn’t near the AirPods Max or Sony’s best in terms of NC. With these I can still hear people when they’re not playing anything and if the volume is fairly low, loud noises will get through. It isn’t a huge issue if you have the volume at mid or high levels, as it does an adequate job here. With comparison to the AirPods Max, the AirPods delivered a richer, fuller sound, the best spatial audio on the market, and very close to the best noise cancelling on the market. However, those are anywhere from $130 to $200 more depending on he sales going on.Now would I recommend these? Yes, if you can’t find the Bose QC 35s I would say these are decent. Would I recommend these over a the AirPods Max and Sony’s best? Yes, because I honestly believe that you’re less likely to use a headset if the comfort isn’t a high a priority with the manufacture and make no mistake about it, the Bose QC line are the top dogs for comfort.

I've it set to power off after i think it's 15 mins, but they are still connected to Bluetooth after this time and are consuming battery. The worst of it all, the ability to have two Bluetooth connections, ie, multipoint connection doesn't work. I've been advised by Bose to have this switched off in the app, as it was causing constant stuttering and impossible to listen to music. For this price point, they can be a lot better.

Literally one of my best purchases
10 December 2023

I got these because they supposedly had decent noise canceling, and they were light weight. The noise cancelling is pretty good, and you can't really hear much at all if you have music on, but you can still hear everything (just muffled) with no sound playing. Which is ideal for me, and something I really like about this product. They are also not that heavy, and don't give me awful headaches like a lot of headphones do.The sound quality is also GREAT.The only downsides are that the mic is a little quiet, and you won't be able to be heard over the phone on a windy day. And they aren't super tight on my head, so they do fall off easy if you're doing even light jogging. They also connect to your devices pretty quickly, especially if you use the same device over and over. ... MoreI got these because they supposedly had decent noise canceling, and they were light weight. The noise cancelling is pretty good, and you can't really hear much at all if you have music on, but you can still hear everything (just muffled) with no sound playing. The only problem is when someone decides to borrow them, and then it has to test that connection first the next time you pick them up. Even WORSE if they're in the room because they will constantly connect to that device haha. That being said, I use these at my desk, and to walk to class all the time. The battery lasts ages (although it does take a little while to charge), and they're super comfortable. The case also keeps them nicely packed, and they are much sturdier than they look. I usually just put them around my neck to leave the house, and honestly I have had no problems with that in terms of wear.I've had them for a little over a year now, and I use them just about every day, and they are showing ZERO signs of wear or tear. I would HIGHLY recommend these.

Noise cancellation can't be beat!!!

Bose used to be the best in sound. Over the years others have caught up and they're not as superior as they once were. But then they figured out noise cancellation, and let me tell you nothing else comes close! In Quiet mode, I can't hear the tv that is 6 feet away from me, I can't hear the loud network cabinet behind me at work, and I didn't know there was a baby screaming on the airplane until I took them off! I was using Beats at work which are supposed to be "almost" as good but in reality the difference is night and day. If you want to shut out the world around you, these are what you need! Then there's Aware mode - now it sounds like you're not wearing headphones at all. It perfectly replicates the sounds around you so you can hear everything that is going on and hold a normal conversation while listening to your music or movie or game. And they are so light and comfortable! They don't weigh heavy on your head like other headphones, and the cup is shaped so it doesn't touch or press on your ear and become painful with extended use. I bought one set of these for the house on Prime day, and love them so much I bought a second set on Black Friday for work. I've had them for 5 months so far and they're holding up great, still in great shape. I can't recommend these enough!

Review of BOSE QuietComfort 45 SE Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Headphones - Black
9 April 2024

I bought these because I have problems blocking out sound in my open-plan office. It is Auditory Sensory Overload Hell. These headphones are brilliant. From the moment you switch them on, the noise cancelling switches on immediately and dampens outward noise. I often have them on with no music playing if I want to concentrate but don't want to miss office interaction. The two settings, Quiet, and Aware, make it easy to adjust to your surroundings. Sound quality is wonderful and even better, I can have them connected via Bluetooth, to both my laptop and my phone simultaneously, making it easy to join a Teams meeting on the computer, and then switch to music on my phone, without having to disconnect from either. So yes. Still far from greatness
27 October 2022

The QC45s bring some much-needed improvements to their legendary predecessor, along with some questionable downgrades and omissions. The most enjoyable upgrades are the longer battery life and the USB-C port. The overall design of the headphones is mostly unchanged and the product still feels solid and durable. Keeping the physical buttons was the right choice in my opinion, as touch controls are glitchy, inaccurate and frustrating to use. The headphones now use Bluetooth 5.1, which comes with slightly better range, fewer drops and lower latency. Now, I feel like that would've been the perfect opportunity for Bose to add support for more BT codecs, which they chose not to do. The QC45s still only offer either AAC or SBC. For a premium product, it stings a little bit, especially since the competition has greatly improved its support for more modern codecs. In addition to that, I feel like the sound quality is not better than the QC35s'. In fact, for my liking, the QC35s sounded slightly better, more "full" and enjoyable. The QC45s sound a bit more harsher, with a lot of treble presence and a harsher midrange. The noise cancelling ability has both improved and worsened in some ways: the headphones provide a better seal around the ear, which naturally improves their sound isolation. However, the noise-cancellation algorithm is now too sensitive to certain sounds, especially high-pitched impact sounds. Examples are the clang of cutlery or popcorn grains being poured into a funnel. Those types of sounds will trigger annoying "pops" inside of the headset that used not to happen with the QC35s. The microphone quality has not really improved, it's still pretty serviceable as long as you speak loudly enough and the environment is not too noisy. Finally, the new Bose Music app doesn't let you disable the noise-cancellation or set it to a low level. That was a nice feature of the QC35 that was unfortunately removed on this model. In the end, this is an evolution from the QuietComfort 35 that doesn't change what worked before and brings a handful of iterative improvements. Because it's such a conservative evolution, it doesn't feel like it improves the product enough to be a true successor. I'm hoping that Bose listens to customer feedback and implements the features that people really want in the next version.

You're paying for amazing quality and experience
18 March 2024

It's been a year since I bought these headphones and I can say its one of the most intelligent purchases I've made ever. Many aspects fulfill my review. First of all, Quality of overall materials, they are top tier for its price. Design, Comfort and experience is superior aswell. Although åt first having to download an app to link them to my smartphone seemed far fetched I later saw the value. The sound is crystal clear. You get crisp trebles and deep bass. Noise cancellation system is amazing both for listening and speaking. When you're in a meeting they really clear up the ambient noise so that's valuable for a home office setup.Right now my only concern is finding out whether I can replace the leather from the sponges because they're starting to wear off. ... MoreIt's been a year since I bought these headphones and I can say its one of the most intelligent purchases I've made ever. Nothing horrible, it's just that I'm a heavy User and it tells.
