I am extremely hypersensitive to noise when trying to sleep, and am a night shift worker who sleeps during the day. I’m caring for an aged parent with dementia and have also opened my house to my son, his wife, their two year old and their 2 expressive dogs as they transition to life away from active duty. More what I would consider ‘aware’ mode and, believe me, I made myself read everything to be sure I was working the buttons correctly. In other instances (and decibel realms, lol) I am completely unaware of noises…like my husband asking if I need more coffee. Thankfully we’ve worked out a way for me not to miss getting my cup refilled even if I am blissfully ensconced in my happy place-headphones on and zen in progress. I absolutely LOVE being able to listen to the music/podcast/audiobook that restores and invigorates me while I cook dinner, clean up or zone out. It really and truly is saving me and the relationships that matter the most to me-among them, my relationship with myself. Thank you BOSE!!!

One thing I don't like about them is that the power switch is a switch and not a button, which means that unless you turn them off, they'll always be on. Might be nit picky, but I would prefer if I got out of range of them and they disconnected, they would turn themselves off. The battery life is long enough, but it seems to be shorter than my old headphones. The switch thing has something to do with it too. They do cancel noise very well, better than my old ones. Oh, sometimes If there's a loud noise close to you, the headphones will make some tick sound in my ear which is a little uncomfortable. I don't enjoy exagerated booming bass notes and this headset leans toward balance neutral sound. You can boost highs and lows if you wish with the App, so it should please most people. It works perfectly with my several bluetooth devices, and call quality on the phone is excellent. The one drawback comes from its ability to connect with 2 devices at the same time. While connected to both Apple TV and my iPhone, the TV sound would suffer a short "hiccup" about once a minute or so. At first I thought the QC 45 was defective and returned it for an exchange from the retailer. The second unit suffered the same issue. It took a bit of digging ... I’ve owned the Q25, Q35, and now the Q45. I love them all. The Q25 were wired but made life as easily distracted and overwhelmed introvert with ADHD fantastic. When the wireless Q35 came out a year or so later I couldn’t justify spending the money when the ones I had were fine. Let’s just say I was more than a little excited when I got those 35’s as a gift. I loved them and carried them everywhere. Eventually I had to replace the ear pads because they were so well loved, but that was a cheap and easy fix that made them feel brand new. I wasn’t planning to get the Q45 - again simply because my 35s were/are so great. Then, a sad and terrible thing happened… I thought I lost them. And my gosh I love the active noise cancelling. I do notice a difference between the 35 and 45, there is definitely an improv with the newer ones. I frequently turn these on and wear them around the office or my house without even listening to anything, but just to eliminate the constant background and white noise, conversations I can’t help but overhear and can’t stay out of. I also wear them at night with sleep sounds or music to drown out my partners loud snoring. It goes without saying that the audio quality is superb. My first day with these new babies, I jumped and turned around because the song I was listening to had a whisper in it, and I thought that someone was behind me. Coworkers have yelled my name across the office and I have been peacefully oblivious to it. Im not a fan of being yelled at to be beckoned so it’s helped create some boundaries for others.

So, before you purchase possibly pop into a Best Buy or some other department store that may have the Bose on display and check them out first. (I found this out after I purchased.) No need for any sort of Bose response "Where sorry to hear that you where bla, bla, bla just create a better-quality product for your customers. I'm sure it could happen if you just put two feet in. I wish I’d returned them and gotten the sennheisers i really wanted. Because these are noise canceling closed back cans you never get the *sensation* of high volume which leads to you turning them up as loud as they’ll go and it still doesn’t *seem* loud AT ALL while in actuality it is very loud and this can VERY easily lead to hearing damage bc you’re seeking out the sensation of loudness and never getting it. Some good things I can say is that these are very comfortable and light and fit my head very well, I’m a smol person and many just flop around on me. Also every other genre I’ve listened to sounds great, I’m a metal head but I’m also a bluegrass musician and bluegrass sounds wonderful, so do goth genres and podcasts. But the whole purpose for me was for metal. I want to hear ALL OF IT.: and again let’s face it, most other genres aren’t so complex that they require headphones but metal is best heard through a great pair of headphones. Oh, something else that really bugs me, for whatever reason these headphones don’t allow you to control iphone volume and headphones volume separately and this somehow has also impacted the volume on my Bluetooth speakers and when I get a text the Bluetooth speaker will suddenly reset to its normal volume. So all in all, if you’re a casual listener who needs to drown out outside noise while traveling or shopping they’re great, if you’re an audiophile or metal head, look elsewhere. Like sennheiser
The QC45s bring some much-needed improvements to their legendary predecessor, along with some questionable downgrades and omissions. Now, I feel like that would've been the perfect opportunity for Bose to add support for more BT codecs, which they chose not to do. The QC45s still only offer either AAC or SBC. For a premium product, it stings a little bit, especially since the competition has greatly improved its support for more modern codecs. In addition to that, I feel like the sound quality is not better than the QC35s'. In fact, for my liking, the QC35s sounded slightly better, more "full" and enjoyable. The QC45s sound a bit more harsher, with a lot of treble presence and a harsher midrange. The noise cancelling ability has both improved and worsened in some ways: the headphones provide a better seal around the ear, which naturally improves their sound isolation. However, the noise-cancellation algorithm is now too sensitive to certain sounds, especially high-pitched impact sounds. Examples are the clang of cutlery or popcorn grains being poured into a funnel. Those types of sounds will trigger annoying "pops" inside of the headset that used not to happen with the QC35s. The microphone quality has not really improved, it's still pretty serviceable as long as you speak loudly enough and the environment is not too noisy. Finally, the new Bose Music app doesn't let you disable the noise-cancellation or set it to a low level. That was a nice feature of the QC35 that was unfortunately removed on this model. In the end, this is an evolution from the QuietComfort 35 that doesn't change what worked before and brings a handful of iterative improvements. Because it's such a conservative evolution, it doesn't feel like it improves the product enough to be a true successor. I'm hoping that Bose listens to customer feedback and implements the features that people really want in the next version.

I bought another brand of headphones with active noise cancellation but was never happy with their performance compared to my old Bose headphones. Their software, features, active noise cancellation, ease of use and comfort still are the best for noise cancelling headphones when traveling.
