Battery life has been a lot better than my other pair of earbuds which would die after ~4-6 hours, so far the lowest I've gotten these have been around 40%. I'm also not too sure how fast they charge, since they live on my desk and I charge them overnight but when I first charged them it took about half hour to fully charge from ~60%.It's a bit difficult to figure out what the optimal spot is for these earbuds to perform their best, I believe for me at least when they're at their lowest on/in your ear it seems to be the best. I'll randomly check that they're evenly pushed into my ears and not falling out from time to time, but generally they're pretty snug fit that don't move much once on.As far as "noise cancellation" or "passive hearing" goes, they do a pretty good job at blocking out sound when turned up I generally have mine around 60% at that's loud enough for me - I can still hear around me, if need be which I like not having to take off my earbuds in between sessions to multitask. There was a recent firmware update that adds auto-volume, which increases the volume in louder environments which is kind of "noise cancellation" in its simplest form. You're also able to control the earbuds pretty well with just the button on either earbud, play, pause, skip track, reverse track, toggle immersive mode or you can customize the shortcut which is nice. I have left as cycle thru still/motion/off immersion, and right as toggle immersion but there's also "switch devices" and "access your voice assistant" as options.I look forward to future updates and possibly v2 of this product if it performs well, a great niche product for an oversaturated market. I would recommend trying these out if you're at all interested, the price is a bit hard to swallow but they may become your favorite pair of earbuds đ«

It's not like wearing a cheap pair of earbuds that you by default can't hear your music when there is too much external noise though. These you can somehow hear important things (like the wife or kid talking to you), while still hearing your audio with perfect quality. Now while I would not recommend wearing earbuds/headphones while driving, these would be the only ones I'd feel comfortable wearing because I can still hear what's going on in the world outside. I also utilized the earbuds while exercising and doing farm work outside. They didn't fall out/off, though I did have to adjust them from time to time to keep it on the sweet spot of my ear for best audio quality. I would say that they stay on the ear better than the competitor product (named after a fruit). Now if you are trying to actually cancel out external sounds AND hear audio in your earbuds, these aren't really meant for that. I tried using them while working on my tractor and the tractor was simply too loud to hear my audio. Not a big deal though because like I said, these earbuds fulfill more of a role when listening to audio when you NEED to hear things externally. Battery life is seemingly infinite (I realize it's not really but it seems like it) when compared to the competitor product I mentioned. I haven't been able to actually deplete the batteries and have used them non-stop for 4 hours or so. I believe there is a battery saving feature of these earbuds where they seem to "turn on" only when audio is detected vs on at all times. It probably helps the battery too that there isn't any noise-cancelling. This battery saving feature did have one downside in limited circumstances though. When listening to something where audio is also intermittent (ie. Instagram Reels, language learning apps like Duolingo) you will sometimes have a slight delay when the earbuds will sense the audio then "turn on". To get around that you just have to replay whatever audio you are trying to listen to once you can tell the earbuds turned on (you will hear them turn on, though I don't know how to describe it). I kind of suspect that Bose may be able to do some software update to turn that feature off in the future (with the downside of reducing battery life?) but I have no idea if that is something that is possible. All in all, I would recommend the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds over any other competitor of a like product if you don't need the noise cancelling features.

Connecting these buds was easy, just install the Bose Music app, open the case, and the app detects the buds almost immediately, it took me less than a a minute. Through the app you can adjust your EQ and Immersion settings as well as track the battery life of the buds and case. These buds have an IPX4 rating so they are water resistant to sweat great and light rain. The battery life is 7.5hrs which is great for long uses.I like these buds but I have a few gripes with them that keep them from being perfect in my eyes (or should I say ears lol). While the sound quality is clear, the bass is underhwleming, even at the highest setting its not as deep as some other premium buds I own, which was a bit of a bummer since I like bass heavy music. Also, since these are open-ear design it means they dont have Active Noise Canceling. The fit will take sometime to get used to and will vary by person, but in my experience when using these buds at work for a 5 day week with over 4hrs of continuous use each of those days, I found myself constantly adjusting them because it felt like they were sliding off, despite them being in place.The Bose Ultra are a good set of premium buds, if not a bit weird to wear at first. For the sound quality alone I would recommend them.

Have used these new open ear buds for over 3 weeks now and am very pleased. The new cuff ear fit is a huge improvement over the old in ear method for 2 main reasons: 1. It perfectly fits any ear type which allows sharing. This was previously a problem since my wife's ears need a much smaller plug than I do. It also removes the need to clean the ear buds each time they are shared. 2. They maintain the great Bose sound and bass but also allows you to not be cut off from the outside world should someone wish to ask you something.Some other major Pros are:Great Bluetooth range - Better than my Bose QC II's. Even though the QC II's and my other ear buds fit me very well, after a long day or some strenuous exercise there was the possibility, they would slip out. With the cuff/clip method they stayed on while I worked out at the gym, hit the batting cages, worked outside etc.Battery Life - I have used these for 7 hours straight and not run out of battery life. In fact, I have yet to have them cut out due to dead battery.Battery Case - Major improvement in the case as the magnetic grip has the ear buds fit correctly every time. Plus, they connect up towards the top of the case which avoids issues I have had in the past with the QC II's and others where the deep case can get dirty contacts which are hard to clean and cause the ear buds to not always charge correctly. The other plus is 2 different charging lights that give the current status of each ear bud. My other ear bud cases contain one light that shows the status as you put each ear bud in, so it wasn't as easy to know where they both stood at a quick glance.Multiple Bluetooth connections - I had these connected to 2 or 3 different devices at all times and switching between was very easy and seamless.Firmware update - This was very easy to perform and completed successfully. The latest firmware update appears to have solved all of the issues/cons I will list below so it is great to know any other potential problems or updates can be distributed and installed proactively or reactively by Bose in a quick manner.Cons:Connectivity with the Bose Music App - I will start off by saying I believe all these issues were cleared up with the new firmware update, but I will mention them just in case. To be clear, these were only issues within the Bose Music app, my Bluetooth connections never dropped, and I never had any interruptions in listening. Within the Bose Music App, which is used to do things like adjust the equalizer and set various immersive audio settings (which are very cool), I had multiple occurrences where the app would lose connection with the ear buds at times for a few minutes and then reconnect. I tried to force reconnect via various troubleshooting methods but none of them worked, they just seemed to reconnect by themselves after a short period of time. As I mentioned there was no interruption at all in listening, it was just within the app. Along with that a few other times I also had one or the other ear bud drop off unexpectedly and then after 30-90 seconds pick back up again. In these cases, it did seem that if I clicked the barrel button on the ear bud that dropped it would come back, although this did not resolve it every time.As mentioned above, all of these issues have not reoccurred for me since the firmware update, so I do not have any actual current Cons.To wrap it up, I highly recommend these ear buds as they provide much more fit/sharing flexibility, seem more rugged than other ear buds and keep that same great Bose sound.

One thing to note is that the earbuds don't seem to ever turn 'off' unless they are in their charging case.A few features are either half-baked or missing. For example, I would really like an audio battery indicator, which my previous pair of Bose earbuds had - I could click a button on one earbud and it would say "Battery 90%" or whatever number. The biggest letdown is that these earbuds have customizable "Modes" and "Shortcuts" that sound amazing but both are actually very limited in how you can use them. From what I can tell, Modes are functionally identical to the Immersive Audio options, literally the only way to customize Modes is choosing which Immersive Audio option you want. Why is this two different settings? Shortcuts had a ton of potential - each earbud has a button and you can customize what they do individually! But there only seem to be four options, which are 1. Cycle Modes, 2. Change Immersive Audio (again, these are functionally the same exact thing since all Modes do is choose which Immersive Audio setting you want), 3. Switch Bluetooth Device, and 4. Access Phone's Voice Assistant. It seems like there were really good ideas here that just weren't developed enough to be super useful compared to earbuds without these features.One other feature that could be improved is the earbuds' audio control. You can change your volume by tapping then holding either earbud's button, but this makes it difficult to know what volume level you're going to get. How long should I hold it to get the desired volume level? I have no idea, even after a few weeks of using these daily. It would be nice to be able to change the volume in individual increments, which would provide much more control and consistency to the user. I often find it more useful to just pull out my phone and adjust the audio level there.For people like me who have tinnitus and sleep with earbuds listening to ocean or space or rain soundtracks, be aware that these buds aren't great for side sleepers. The audio only comes through when they're in a very particular position in the ear, which is not a problem whatsoever during normal use but can become an issue when your head is laying on a pillow.Despite my criticisms, like I said at the start this is a great product. Uniquely comfortable, great sound, great battery life, reliable performance, and easy to get used to - if you're having trouble figuring the best way to get them to sit on your ear, just keep trying and give it a few days! I figured out pretty quickly what works best fornme. Overall I'm happy with the product.

But if you don't like that, you can always just use them in the standard stereo mode that you might be used to.Their open-ear design also has practical benefits. Unlike traditional earbuds that seal off your ear canal, these allow ambient noise to filter through, enhancing situational awareness. This feature is particularly useful for outdoor activities like jogging or cycling, where being aware of your surroundings is essential for safety.But don't think exterior noises will overcome your music or calls. It's a weird sensation at first but wearing them at a normal listening volume, such as you would on a phone call, you hear the audio just like if you were wearing regular in-ear buds, but but if someone talks to you or the dog barks, or whatever, you'll hear that too.Now you alao can turn up the volume enough that you can drown out some or most of those outside sounds, but you're still going to hear those higher pitched noises coming externally (i.e. sirens, screams, barks, etc.) It's up to you really - the higher the volume the more you can drown out. So you can turn the volume up where you can clearly hear your music, etc. but still be able to hear and understand someone talking to you, or you can turn it up a little more and be able to hear them talking but maybe can't fully understand them. They really are very versatile in that aspect.They're really easy to use and unlike some earbuds, pairing them with your device is quick and hassle-free, and the controls are intuitive, allowing you to adjust volume, play/pause, and take calls with ease.However, they do have their limitations. As mentioned earlier, if you're a discerning audiophile seeking studio-quality sound, you may find these earbuds lacking. Additionally, the open-ear design means they may not be suitable for noisy environments where you need complete isolation from external sounds, so they're not going to be sufficient for use as PPE.I feel like you really do get what you pay for with these though. Yeah you can get better sounding earbuds for less, but you're not going to find anything as versatile as these. I find myself leaving them in my ears throughout my workday because I can hear everything same as if I have nothing on my ears, and if I get a call or want some music, they're already in. And I really do forget they're in at times. So after using these, I really can't see going back to in-ear buds (unless it's a situation I need PPE.) They really are that versatile and innovative.And don't get me wrong though in regards to audio quality, because that is subjective to different people. And these do sound good. Plus this is a gen-1 product and I haven't gotten any updates yet so I'm sure they will be taking user feedback and constantly improve them further. I would definitely recommend them and am even thinking about getting my wife and teenage daughter a pair.

The open ear design and immersive sound makes you feel like the music surrounds you, which you will never have experienced in any other earbuds you have ever used.While absence of these features is not a deal breaker for me personally, it is worth mentioning that these are not noise cancelling, nor is there a rubber ear piece adapter option to make them fit into your ear canal to make them noise cancelling (which would be contradictory to their open ear design), the case does not have wireless/Qi charging, and the call quality according to the party on the other end was not clear/loud enough. (On my end the call sounded fine). I actually prefer being able to hear what's going on around me and to engage in a conversation if I need to while wearing these earbuds. The only other thing I would like to see improved might be the modes in the Bose Music App settings. I have not really been able to notice any discernible difference between most of the modes offered, but again this is hardly a deal breaker as there is an equalizer and some other settings you can adjust and most music apps also have their own equalizers for additional fine tuning to your listening preferences. I will be interested to see what additional features and/or improvements future updates may bring to these earbuds.These Ultra Open earbuds have quickly become my favorites in the short time I have been using them, and I know they will be my go-to because nothing compares to the quality you expect from a Bose product, the immersive sound these offer, and the ability to wear them for long periods of time without any discomfort or having to recharge them often. I'd have given these a solid 4.5, but 1/2 stars weren't an option, nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. I definitely would recommend to go buy yourself a pair â you won't be disappointed!

While that means thereâs no way to customize the fit, you can adjust the positioning of the ear bud by slightly sliding it up or down to find the most comfortable position for you, however, I found that moving it can noticeably change the sound quality.To setup and pair with the ear buds, youâll need to download and install the Bose Music app to your smart device. From there, setup was fairly straightforward and took only a few minutes. After pairing, you can listen to a demo track that showcase its âImmersive Audioâ mode which has two settings, âStillâ and âMotion.â These modes give the sound a sense of dimensional space, placing the sound in front of you with stereo separation. The difference between them is that with Still, the sound will project from a fixed location even as you turn your head; though note that if you face a different direction long enough, the spatial positioning will update and re-center on you. With Motion the sound follows you, so that it keeps its position relative to you which is better if youâll be moving around a lot. You also have the option to turn immersive mode off (aka stereo mode), which can help extend battery life, but I found the sound to be a little flatter and confined to my headspace.The sound from these ear buds overall is pleasing and enveloping while still allowing you to hear other sounds in your environment. The audio is clean and clear with a light and airy quality, likely due to the open design. As for bass, itâs apparent but not overly pronounced. At moderate to low volume levels thereâs virtually no sound bleeding, and folks standing a few feet from you wonât be able to hear what youâre listening to. However, when you turn up the volume it can get quite loud, and while you could effectively block out all other sounds, that sort of defeats the main benefit to having an open ear design. Plus, at higher volumes, sound can bleed quite a bit, making what youâre listening to perceptible to bystanders, and I feel the quality distorts with overly bright trebles and muddy midranges.One of the things that I liked about these is that when no audio is playing, the ear buds go silent and donât produce any hiss of white noise during standby. The drawback is that it takes a split second for them to wake up, so notification sounds from your device may get slightly clipped. However, the low-latency 5.3 Bluetooth protocol also makes them great for watching video content with perfectly synced audio. These are slightly water resistant too, with an IPX4 rating, so would be fine for a sweaty workout and survive a drizzle.Each ear bud has a single physical click-button on the top of the barrel that wraps behind your ear. You need to press down on the button to use it as it is not a touch control. There are five key combinations for the controls including single, double, and triple clicks for play/pause and track skipping, as well as long-press (shortcut) and short press followed by a long press for volume control. The shortcut function can be customized to cycle through modes, immersive audio setting, source selection, or activate an AI voice assistant; you can perform different shortcut actions for the left and right ear buds.Listening modes are presets that you can select based on your environment and preference. The two pre-configured ones are simply Stereo and Immersion, though you can define up to eight custom modes, for example, for when youâre home, on a run, or during your commute. The only thing youâre really changing though is the Immersion mode and not a custom EQ profile. While you can adjust the bass, mid, and treble EQ by +/-10, these settings are global across modes. There are several pre-defined EQ adjustments like âbass boostâ and âtreble reducer.â You can also enable âauto-volumeâ which will adjust the volume based on your surroundings, e.g. increase it when youâre in a noisy environment.When you take the ear buds out of the case they will announce the battery life remaining as a percentage. You can also view the battery life for each ear bud in the app. The total runtime is advertised at around 7.5 hours on a full charge depending on your listening volume and settings; just note that time will be shorter when you have immersive modes enabled. The included USB-C charging case can deliver up to an additional 19.5 hours of playtime or about 2.5 full charges on-the-go. It charges the ear buds quickly, and they went from 70% to full in just 15 minutes. However, the case itself cannot be charged wirelessly.Each ear bud has two microphones on it that are used for hands-free calls, interacting with your voice assistant, and auto-volume adjustments. On calls, these mics picked up my voice clearly and the other party had no trouble hearing me, though note that in a loud setting you may sound more faint. Also be aware that the open ear design can feel distracting during a call in crowded spaces as I found it hard to differentiate the call audio from people talking around me.Overall, the audio performance from these open-ear ear buds is enjoyable and just about as clear as you can get without having anything stuck in your ears. Hands-free calls have acceptable quality but are best in quiet spaces. You wonât have to take them out to hear whatâs going on around you, and the spatial imaging of the Immersive modes is a neat feature. The battery life is ok for true wireless ear buds and with the case and a few short charging breaks can get you through an entire day of use. I found them more comfortable than traditional ear buds over long listening sessions, though if you do start to feel the pressure on the back of your ear, you can simply slide the ear piece a bit for some relief.

Though I was certainly skeptical, the design has a comfort Iâd never expected. They also donât move much, despite being held on by not but their own countered weight. If not for the music, you could easily forget the buds are there.Sound/Calls - The sound most certainly sets the bar for wireless headphones. Thereâs an immense amount of base, and despite the design they do block out quite a bit of external sound. So much in fact, half volume seems to be plenty, even perhaps too loud, which is a first for a fan of loud music like myself. Also vice versa the way the buds rest allow for you to listen to the area around while the music is low for some ambience or perhaps motivation on a jog. Calls are extremely clear, and the microphone seems to capture sound well.Battery Life - The battery life was not included on the box, but they seem to last around 10-12 hours from a full charge, and charge twice in their case. It took two days of listening before the buds finally indicated a low battery, and the charge was relatively short, maybe 10 or so minutes for the buds in the case and 20 for the case. The case lets you know the charge status of each bud with individual indicators, as well as an indicator for the case itself.The only issue I could find with the headphones, was a sort of glitch that disabled my ability to change the volume on my phone once the headphones were connected. Restarting the music streaming app I was using seemed to fix it, while be it temporary as it is a reoccurring thing, so it may just be the streaming app itself and not the headphones. They are also magnetic, which goes for most earbuds, but the magnet on these is quite strong and gave me a startle when I discovered pair of earrings I was not aware were also magnetic.Overall, I am highly impressed with the design, the sound and the comfort of these headphone and I would highly recommend to friends and family.

The audio quality is phenomenal and absolutely up to standard of modern day high quality earbuds, the construction of both the earbuds and case is sophisticated and durable and the design and vision of is incredible and works extremely well in practice. Trust me do not fear this unconventional earbud design, these stay on my ear significantly better than any airpod has and I have taken these with me on several mountain bike rides where I am going quite fast through very rough and bumpy terrain and these earbuds never felt loose for a second. However, I must say, these earbuds are not for taking to the library to isolate yourself and deeply focus on your work, or for on the airplane to block out any white noise. These earbuds were designed for being able to engage in your environment while having audio not having the most secluded stuio-like audio listening experience you could have possible with features like noise cancelling, that simply was not the designed purpose of this product which may not work for some, but is seriously awesome for others like myself. I am genuinely stoked on this product and new perspective on audio listening from Bose, If you are on the go and have some gripes with your current bluetooth earbuds I highly recommend that you give these a try.
