Amazing Soundbar Experience!

So, it was no surprise to me that when I got the new Ultra Soundbar in my home it blew away my previous tv speaker setup by leaps and bounds. But let’s dive into the meats and potatoes of what makes this soundbar so good.Initial unboxing and setup were very simple and straightforward. The speaker comes in a classy glossy black finish, its downright sexy if I’m being honest. The speaker is lightweight for its size and fit perfectly on my mantle under the tv in our Living room. Provided with the speaker was a high-speed HDMI ethernet cable, a remote, a power cable and a weird looking headset which I’ll get to in a bit. Setting up the speaker itself I took notice of the additional ports behind the speaker for an ethernet cable (but the speaker does have built in Wifi) and optical cable, an AdaptiQ port and a bass plug. Additionally, you can add wireless bass modules 500 and 700 along with the Bose Surround 700 speakers for a complete home theater system.Once everything was hooked up, I used the Bose app to get the speaker setup. It instantly found the speaker and did a software update and then had me do an AdaptiQ sound setup for my room using the headset provided. AdaptiQ considers how your speaker sounds depending on where you sit and adjusts settings accordingly. I found it to be an intuitive feature with the ability to tweak and adjust as needed. The Bose app is very impressive and compliments the speaker very well. It has a multitude of features at your disposal, you can completely control the volume, source, and adjust settings all from your phone. I was able to change the CEC option, so my speaker automatically turns on when I power up the TV. You can connect additional speakers, music services such as Pandora and Spotify, enable Chromecast streaming and Voice assistance through Alexa. Theres also a Voice4Video feature that is extremely impressive in that if you have a cable box attached to your tv you can change channels, HDMI inputs, play music and make phone calls all using voice commands. Being able to say things like Alexa “Watch NFL Network” and it changes on the fly is amazing! The app also has access to things like Local Radio and Podcasts which are sure to be a hit with my wife since she loves her Dateline podcasts and you can even save them as Presets. Another very cool feature is being able to connect your Noise Cancelling headphones or another portable speaker to the setup as well. Overall I was very impressed by all the features the App brings to the speaker itself. The most important part of a sound bar must be the overall quality of the sound, because let’s be honest what’s the point of a bunch of features if the sound isn’t great and this is where the Bose Ultra Sound Bar really excels. With nine total speakers inside this beautiful sound bar, it delivers a rich and immersive audio experience for any home theater or music fan. I am a huge music junkie so the first thing I did once setup was play some of my favorite tunes to see how it sounds and was amazed by how crisp and clear the music was. You would think not having a separate base module would make the sound muddy but that’s not the case at all. I was blown away by how loud the speaker could get as well. I can just envision myself for years to come playing music in our family room through this speaker and it fills my heart with joy. The experience watching movies is no different. There is an especially cool AI feature that they’ve added that detects when vocals are being played and it allows the speakers to separate those to make sure you don’t miss key dialogue in intense sounding scenes. We watched Avatar 2 Way of the Water as the first movie, and I was really impressed by the overall sound quality. For being just a single sound bar, it blew me away with how well it can act as a complete surround sound experience. I think if you paired this with the wireless bass module you would be hard pressed to find a better surround sound experience for the money. We came away very impressed by the movie quality sound and look forward to watching many more movies with this setup.Overall, I can’t recommend the Bose Smart Ultra Sound bar enough for someone looking for an all in one home theater experience. The speaker is synonymous with Bose quality products and is a home run in my opinion. The App experience only adds to the features it possesses. If you’re looking for a great sound bar for your home this is the one, Period.

Once connected the rest of the set-up process was easy to follow the on-screen instructions. The best feature of the Smart Ultra Soundbar is its seamless compatibility with AirPlay 2, which means I can use in conjunction with all my Apple devices and speakers. The best part was the soundbar's natural assimilation into my existing HomeKit framework, bypassing the need for additional setup – it simply materialized my home's audio list. I literally have no wires running to the soundbar aside from the power cable and it works flawlessly with my AppleTV setup. When evaluating sound quality, the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar consistently excels, particularly in the domain of dialogue articulation. Dialogue is crisp and decipherable, which is key in a room with lofted ceilings Furthermore, the sound stage made me feel like there was a wall of sound with multiple speakers. While not exactly the same as a dedicated surround sound system, it was quite impressive for a single unit.As a beta tester of iOS 17 I won't deduct a star for compatibility issues. The iOS 16 device as a workaround, while functional, does underscore the need for swift resolution by Bose. The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar, with AirPlay 2 and HomeKit, coupled with its noteworthy audio prowess, is definitely and attractive option in the soundbar arena. For those seeking an elegant soundbar that seamlessly integrates with their Apple-oriented ecosystem while delivering high-quality audio, the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar warrants serious consideration.

It comes with the power, HDMI and optical cables. There is no sound from the soundbar yet. One needs to install the Bose music app on a mobile phone or tablet. I already have a Bose Smart Speaker and Bluetooth headphones so my account was already set up. The install process though the app was quick and simple, until the step where one has co wear a headband with a mic on, that is used just once to calibrate the soundbar to the room and where one would be sitting while watching TV. I wish this could've been done using the cell phone itself but the wired mic on a headband must be more accurate. This is done once so that's fine (It can be re-run from the app though). Bose calls this 'ADAPTiQ'.The size is right for a 55" or larger TV. Anything smaller and the soundbar will be wider than the TV.It has a nice finish with matte finish on the sides and a glass top. There are no buttons on the soundbar except for mic mute and voice assistant buttons that are touch-sensitive from the glass top.One of the distinguishing features is that it has actual height speakers (For Dolby Atmos) which are cut through the glass top and fire upwards. It also works as an Amazon Alexa assistant, and supports playing from the TV, Bluetooth, with an excellent device management from the app, Apple Airplay 2 with Apple Home support, DLNA, Chromecast (with direct play support from a server), Spotify Connect and from the Bose Music app, which itself supports some of the most common sources like Amazon Music, iHeart Radio, TuneIn, Pandora, SiriusXM and Spotify. When playing through the Bose app, the phone doesn’t need to be near the soundbar once it starts playing, as it connects directly. It has a simple remote control with a few buttons but if used with a TV, volume can be controlled from either the TV remote or the AppleTV remote (Or other HDMI connected streamer), as well as from the Bose app on the phone. When watching TV, the app indicates what kind of audio it's receiving, like PCM or Dolby Atmos. So to the sound: As expected, sound is very crisp with good amount of bass. Bass, treble, center and height controls are on the app.To test stereo separation, streamed some tracks with good stereo separation and I'm impressed how it's obviously distinct between left and right.Sound is very detailed. Subtleties in audio tracks can be heard at lower volumes. It can (and should) be set to also enhance speech content, which I've also seen in other high end soundbars. An external wireless (power cord only) bass module and rear speaker are also available. This is Bose's best soundbar, and it's truly excellent for both TV and music and excellent connectivity options.

Bose new compact Atmos Soundbar

The Bose ultra Smart soundbar is the new king of the hill compact soundbar from Bose. This soundbar replaces the Smart 900 soundbar as their top 5:1 Atmos soundbar. The bar includes Dolby Atmos decoding for sources recorded with Dolby Atmos, faithfully reproducing the spatial sound. For non Atmos content Bose Truespace technology is used to upscale and create spatial separation to make your listening pleasure that much greater. The sound produced by the sound bar while watching movies and listening to music is fantastic. Bose has really nailed the Truespace tuning. If I found great separation in viewing my movies encoded with Dolby Atmos as well as non atmos titles. The AI dialogue mode intelligently boosts speech during noisy segments, making it easier to hear what the actors are saying. The sound bar was easy to set up. You first have to download the smartphone app from either the Apple app store or Google Play store. Bose provides a QR code that you can scan that will bring you to the proper page. After I figured out I had to put the sound bar in pairing mode which consisted of pressing the mute and the music buttons on the remote until the light on the soundbar glows amber began tindicating it was in setup mode. I chose the Smart 600 soundbar from the list as the Ultra is not listed yet (Bose presumably will add it at release time) It detected the new sound bar properly, listing it as the Bose Ultra Smart soundbar. You can then set up the WiFi. The Soundbar will download any updates at this time. Like its predecessor the Bose 900 soundbar. The ultra sound bar includes a Bose ADAPTiQ device to optimize your listening environment. You plug the device into a proprietary port in the soundbar and move around either holding the device or optimally wearing it on your head during the setup. The sound bar emits different frequency sounds and pulses and optimizes the sound environment for your particular room. It asks you to choose five unique positions in the room. I have to say after tuning the sound seems much more expanded. The sound bar has two separate areas for connectivity. First includes HDMI( ARC) input, optical input, and ethernet and a USB C service port. The second area includes the power port, output for a separate bass speaker , the ADAPTiQ input, data and IR. The soundbar supports Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, Apple AirPlay2, Chromecast built-in , works with Google Home with Assistant capabilities and Amazon Alexa built-in for voice control It is also Roku ready and supports Spotify as well.If you want to achieve great sound with a painless setup This sound bar is a great choice. Bose has taken all that is good in the Smart 900 series and improved it!

Excellent sound
6 September 2023

When I received the Bose smart ultra soundbar, I was a little disappointed that my sample did not have the wireless subwoofer as part of the package. The disappointment came to an end once I actually had a chance to install the soundbar and set it up for my particular listening location. Setup was fairly easy. The soundbar packaging included a small setup guide that basically contained four easy steps. The disappointment came to an end once I actually had a chance to install the soundbar and set it up for my particular listening location. Setup was fairly easy. The soundbar packaging included a small setup guide that basically contained four easy steps. You unpackage, connect to your television, connect to power and then download the app. The app walks you through the rest of the setup process. After I connected the Bose Ultra soundbar to the app, the first thing that happened was a firmware download which was automatic and for the most part seamless. I did have to unplug the soundbar and plug it back in to reset everything and finish the update. In the app you have pretty much full control in changing inputs on the soundbar as well as turning on and off various features. One feature that I have come to really enjoy is the voice enhancement setting that allows the speaker to emphasize voices in movies and shows. This makes dialogue so much clearer. The sound is great, even without a sub. You will get a taste of what it can do as soon as you power it up and you get the deep startup sound. Size is great, not a huge speaker, so you shouldn't have any problem finding room for it under your television and it also sounds good as a stand alone speaker for Bluetooth music. I still like bass, especially with action movies, but this speaker with its Dolby Atmos speakers and full range sound almost makes me forget that there isn't a sub in the room. Bose has done a fine job on this line of sounbars and I think this would make a fine addition to anyone with a medium to somewhat large room looking for better sound.

Great sound quality but low end lacking w/o a sub
26 August 2023

This attractively styled Bose Ultra Smart sound bar blends easily into just about any decor. It has a sleek and aesthetically pleasing design. The all black unit is crowned with a stylish high gloss glass top with upward firing speakers on each side and cleverly integrated touch controls. Lighting is thankfully kept to a minimum which contributes to the premium, polished appearance. The 41-inch width and sub 2-inch height is perfectly sized for my particular viewing environment. I placed this bar in front of a 65” television that only has a 2.5 inches of clearance between the bottom edge of the set and the furniture beneath it. The previous sound bar was nearly an inch taller than the Bose and slightly blocked the bottom edge of the TV at lower viewing angles. I placed this bar in front of a 65” television that only has a 2.5 inches of clearance between the bottom edge of the set and the furniture beneath it. The previous sound bar was nearly an inch taller than the Bose and slightly blocked the bottom edge of the TV at lower viewing angles. This Bose bar does not obstruct any areas of the screen, even from viewing angles slightly lower than the television. An easily accessible wide cavity on the rear of the bar houses the input, output, and power connections. The bar ships with HDMI and optical cables, power cord, and a headset for calibrating sound. The included guide only shows how to connect the power cable and doesn’t show nor mention the other included cables or accessories. The easiest way to set up the bar with clear, comprehensive step-by-step instructions, is to download the Bose Music companion app. It can be downloaded by scanning the QR code in the instruction guide. After downloading the app, it guided me through the remaining setup. I connected the included HDMI to the eARC input on my television and finished setup within the app. Setup concluded by applying a firmware update which took approximately 15 minutes to complete. The final step was calibrating the sound bar to the room using the included Adaptiq calibration headset.Operation is easy and straightforward. The Bose Ultra can be used as a traditional sound bar and can also be used for streaming music and other audio content. I prefer traditional use as a dedicated television sound bar. No remote is included with the Bose, but CEC compatibility allows me to power the sound bar on/off and control volume through my television remote. The Bose Music app can also be used to select input sources, adjust volume, apply firmware updates, perform basic sound tweaks, and stream music or audio from the smart device. The app has additional sound settings but they are fairly basic.I mostly like the overall sound quality, but I’m torn on how much. Volume gets sufficiently loud, and the bar has excellent clarity during spoken dialogue. I frequently listen to low volumes to avoid disturbing others, and this bar allows me to do so comfortably. I can hear every word of dialogue without using captions or frequently rewinding to replay something that I couldn’t understand. The high and mid frequencies are clear and well balanced. Sound projects quite effectively throughout the entire room and the Dolby atmos enhancement creates a cinematic style surround sound type environment despite lacking additional separate speakers. There is no debate that the bar sounds good, but the lower end is where I’m torn on overall sound quality. Despite the great sounding higher end, this lacks the hard hitting impact that I prefer on the low end. The bass and lower frequencies are noticeable, but only enough to make its presence known rather than making my viewing sound and feel more immersive. I don’t want to merely see and hear things like explosions and thunder in a film; I want to feel them. I prefer the warmer, fuller sound that a good subwoofer provides, even at lower volumes. Deep voices actually sound deep. Helicopters sound and feel like they’re overhead rather than miles away. Music sounds more rich and vibrant. The right amount of deep booming bass truly makes a home sound system stand out. Neutral sounding bars with sharp clear highs but light bass seem too similar to the television speakers despite the vastly improved sound quality in other areas. This bar has excellent sound otherwise, but I can’t fully enjoy it without adding a subwoofer.

Next generation Dolby Atmos soundbar from Bose!
30 August 2023

The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar is the next generation of the Soundbar 900 from Bose. From a physical standpoint, it looks identical to the previous Bose Smart Soundbar 900 which isn’t a bad thing since I feel the physical looks and dimensions of this soundbar are close to physical perfection. It’s not too tall so it will be less likely to block the bottom of your TV and it’s rather compact compared to other large soundbars from other manufacturers. Being more compact makes it easier to find a place for it in your home theater setup. But the sound it produces sounds like it is coming from a much larger soundbar. The inputs seems identical to the Soundbar 900 and includes one HDMI (eARC), one digital optical, an Ethernet port, a service port (looks like a micro USB ... MoreThe Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar is the next generation of the Soundbar 900 from Bose. Being more compact makes it easier to find a place for it in your home theater setup. But the sound it produces sounds like it is coming from a much larger soundbar. The inputs seems identical to the Soundbar 900 and includes one HDMI (eARC), one digital optical, an Ethernet port, a service port (looks like a micro USB port), a power cord receptacle, a data port, an IR port, a bass port and a port for the ADAPTiQ headset. The new remote is smaller and comes with less buttons compared to the remote that came with the Soundbar 900. In addition to the remote, the package includes an ADAPTiQ calibration headset, an optical cable, an HDMI cable, and a power cord.Setup was very easy and exactly the same as with my previous Bose soundbars. All you do is connect the soundbar to your TV and power it up and the Bose Music app was able to easily discover and set up the new soundbar. You should definitely use the ADAPTiQ headset to calibrate the soundbar to your room. I used the soundbar for a couple of days without calibrating and I thought the sound was a little flat. Calibrating the soundbar was very easy as all you do is sit around the room at 5 different places wearing the headset while the soundbar plays back a bunch of sounds. After calibrating, the sound produced became very immersive with a wide and enveloping soundstage. You feel like you are surrounded by sound. I tried some Dolby Atmos demos and was very impressed. Demos that feature rain falling produced the most impressive effect for me as it sometimes felt like the rain was falling around me.The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar also has a feature called TrueSpace processing which can take non-Dolby Atmos material (such as stereo and 5.1) and process them to utilize the new height channels. I didn’t see any option to enable/disable TrueSpace processing so I think it’s always on by default so I couldn’t do an A/B comparison on how effective it is. All I can say is that all material that I have tried (movies, TV, and music) were very immersive and produced a wide soundstage.Dialog clarity is one of the most important features that I want in any soundbar and I have always felt that Bose performs magic in this area. I have always been super impressed with the extreme clarity of dialog offered by Bose and the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar continues this tradition. The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar now offers something called AI Dialog mode which uses AI to improve dialog clarity. I found the results impressive but I couldn’t really say if it is better than the Dialog mode offered by previous Bose soundbars. I thought the previous Bose soundbars already had perfect dialog clarity and it’s hard to improve on perfection. The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar can also function as an Alexa smart speaker, Chromecast device as well as a Bluetooth speaker. The Bose Music App allows you to individually adjust the level for the center and height channels along with treble and bass so you have some options to fine tune the sound to your liking. And you can expand your system with additional surround speakers and a subwoofer to achieve even better surround effects and movie theater like atmosphere. This is pretty much the perfect soundbar for me. The only thing I would possibly have liked to see are additional HDMI ports and perhaps make the glass top a little less reflective.Overall I think this is one of the best Dolby Atmos soundbars in the market and I can easily recommend it to anyone looking for a Dolby Atmos soundbar. It makes everything sound better and produces a wide immersive soundstageHowever, I consider it to be a minor upgrade to the previous Soundbar 900 as the only difference I can see is the new AI Dialog mode. If you already own the Soundbar 900, I would feel no need to upgrade to this newer model.

The addition of a soundbar to even the best brands of televisions makes a world of difference in improving the audio experience for television or listening to music. There are a number of soundbar brands to choose from and our family has owned at least a few of the top named brands, including Bose. The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar gives an immediate, positive first impression when seeing it for the first time. It is a very sleek look in a size that is more compact than our previous soundbar in terms of height and length. To begin setup, install the power plug and check for the light bar to glow solid amber. One simply proceeds to then scan the QR code to download the Bose Music app to complete the setup. Choose from either the HDMI or optical cable that Bose has supplied to establish the single connection setup to one’s television. We continued to complete the additional steps as directed in the app, including the ADAPTiQ headset process which performs calibration steps to fine-tune the system’s sound in particular to our room. The fun part comes after the short setup time where we experimented with listening to a number of different songs. We like that the app has a simple design and is clearly laid out to facilitate ease of use. Audio sources included tv, Bluetooth and AirPlay. The AirPlay option was very convenient for us Apple users so we appreciated that feature. The soundbar also includes built-in Chromecast, Roku TV ready and Spotify Connect. At one point while listening to music, we installed our old soundbar and did a comparison test between the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar and our previous brand. While we were not dissatisfied with our previous brand, we had to give a leg up for the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar as the sound just seemed crisper to us and the bass seemed to be better with Bose.Next up, we enjoyed a variety of tv viewing from full length movies to streaming tv series. Again, the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar did not disappoint with Dolby Atmos, surround sound technology that allows one to be immersed in all variety of sounds be it action movies, science fiction or horror. At various seating/viewing positions the soundbar did a good job of filling various areas of the room with all variety of sounds from music to dialogue. The Bose app allows whole-home systems control to establish groups to include your soundbar and additional Bluetooth speakers, or to add to home theatre with wireless surround speakers and wireless bass modules. Voice controls are built in for Amazon Alexa or to work with Google Home.Though Bose may come at a premium over some of the other soundbar brands that are available we found the audio quality to be a step up which is surely a result of Bose engineering and technology. Not only does the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar look sleek, modern and compact; it delivers by creating an audio experience that is shared throughout the room. Best of all, its ease of setup makes this an easy addition for anyone looking to elevate their home viewing or listening experience.

Take the time to set it up and get AMAZING SOUND

I was able to use the optical output adn was able to get great sound. The setup using the BOSE APP did leave something to be desired, i got various errors when adding the speaker and it would freeze up. I was finally able to add the speaker using the app and activate some of the new features such as the enhanced audio for dialogue/spoken words.I was able to effortlessly use the included mic and use the adaptiq feature and move the mic to my 5 favorite places to sit near the speaker and the mic and app were able to optimize the sound for each location thereby giving me the best sound in each spot. I was able to listen to the same amazing sound from various spots and distance from the soundbar. The included remote was helpful and nothing is quite as quick and convenient as using a remote to raise the volume and switch modes. The APP does allow for other features when the WIFI is connected but i really didn't use the other audio features-most were music streaming services.OVERALL it is a high end device that takes a little setting up but once you are zeroed in and adjsuted your settings the sound is AMAZING! makes gaming and movies sound like you are at the theater.

This is the best soundbar I've used!
21 September 2023

I've always loved Bose sound bars. They always offer great sound and this new Bose Ultra Smart Sound bar is the best yet in my opinionComing in at about 41" long with a height of a hair over 4" the Ultra packs a lot in what I consider to be quiet a small frame. It houses 9 speakers which consist of 6 full range transducers, two custom upwards firing dipole speakers and a center tweeter. All this gives you extremely immersive audio while watching your movies or playing your games. This has dolby Atmos support and it really does work well when in use, it amazing how this soundbar can make it seem like you have speakers around you and not just firing in front of you. It really does seem like you have a speaker above you at times. If you're watching something that isn't in dolby Atmos then truespace does a pretty good job of trying to give you that similar experience. While not quite what you get with Atmos it still does a good job of sound separation. High marks for Bose on how this works. One big problem I've found with sounbars is dialogue being drowned out by explosions or any other loud noise but with the Ultra this is greatly improved as it uses something called AI dialogue mode which makes so you can still hear spoken word during fire fights and races. I find nothing worse than watching a movie only to stop it to change my sound settings to hear what people are saying and then removing all the action noise. It totally kills the audio experience and Bose has done a great job of not needing to do that. You can use Bose simple sync with this which allows you to connect your other Bose headphones and speakers, while I didn't try this feature it's nice to have options like this. This soundbar is also voice activated with Bose voice 4voice. When I connected via HDMI ARC I could turn on my TV and soundbar with my voice, it also utilizes amazon Alexa. It works really well.It also have Bose app support which you use to setup the soundbar, it's very simple to use and makes the experience much betterApple airplay2 and Spotify also work here but I didn't test those as I don't use those services.Overall this is the best soundbar I've owned. The audio is crisp, clear and immersive. Voices come through really well even in the high octane moments. Setup is easy, the app is well laid out and the size is respectful.
