Bose Solo 5 TV Soundbar Sound System with Universal Remote Control, Black

I bought this speaker for my 85-year-old grandparents because their old sound bar (LG) sounded like it was going out. TV speakers are not clear enough for my grandfather so external speakers are a must. There was a noticeable difference between this Bose speaker and their previous LG at its best. While it’s a Bose, it’s also under $200 so curb your expectations. My Bose bluetooth speaker cost more than this soundbar so that should tell you something. It’s a fantastic speaker, significantly better than TV speakers and better than most soundbars I’ve heard. I doubt you’ll find a better one at this price point. Added bonus - plenty of people complain about the bulky 90s-style remote included but that may be my grandfather’s favorite part, lol. He hates the dinky remote that came with his new TV, which doesn’t have numbers on it. It’s nice that the remote is universal and you can easily program it to all your other devices but yes, it’s unnecessarily old school.

I bought this speaker for a projector but we are actually using it for our main TV. The price was great and it doesn't take up a whole lot of room on our TV stand. The sound is noticeably better and the dialog is super clear. I am also able to connect my bluetooth headphones to the speaker which is great for when the kids are asleep. The speaker was very easy to connect right out of the box. My only complaint is that there is no visual indicator of the volume level on the TV itself.

If you want to enhance your TV audio without splurging on a premium soundbar, this is the one. It may not be flashy, but it offers solid quality. With clearer sounds, dialogue, and music, it's a step up from our previous Vizio soundbar, which was overly booming and unbalanced. The Bose Solo 5 provides the consistency you seek, maintaining volume levels even when changing channels. Plus, it fits neatly in front of our living room TV.

Don't need subtitles any more!

I've not been able to make out what people are saying on the TV for a few years now, relying on subtitles. I could hear the volume but everything sounded muffled. My daughter persuaded me to buy this. I was sceptical, and didn't think I'd have the skills to set it up, but decided to give it a whirl. I set it up easily on my own, very quickly, and once it's switched on, I then press the speech-bubble button and hey presto, speech is a clear as it used to be! No longer any need for subtitles! My only complaint would be that if, for example, I go to make a hot drink, or someone phones, I come back and it's switched itself off. Not a bad thing, but I think it could do with staying on just a bit longer before it switches itself off. Excellent budget soundbar from Bose

This a great soundbar for the money. Some reviews are critical of this product, however, if you want plug & play and the ability to improve your flat screen TVs sound, this Bose Solo 5 soundbar does the job. Compared with my 55" TV's speakers, this Bose soundbar has significantly improved the overall sound experience. Vocals are clear, the mid-range is good and the bass is good considering the size of the soundbar. It's one of the smaller soundbars out there, but for us that was desirable, as we didn't want a large speaker in front of our TV. Great Bose Sound

This Bose SOLO 15 Series II - has great sound for enhancing your TV experience. It has very simple connection options to the TV with optical digital or RCA connections. It also has Blue tooth so I can listen to music or pod casts from my smart phone or i-pad. The sound enhancement feature for voice with the push of a button, is great for seniors or foreign programs . I adjusted the surround sound settings on my TV for enhanced surround sound from the Bose unit - great for movies . I had previously a Klipsch Surround sound system but the set up with the receiver/amplifier with all the speakers and wires was just too much of a hassle. Better to make life less complicated , sit back and watch a good movie

Marvellous Bose Solo Soundbar

I have always used Bose speakers because of their excellent sound quality and this one is no exception. The television is now a pleasure to watch and listen to. The sound is crisp and clear at all times, even at low volume. The bass is brilliant for a small speaker too. It is really easy to set up and sits unobtrusively in front of my tv. It's got everything you want at a great price.

Not Worth The Price

The speakers sound was low I had to turn volume up to 45-50 in order to get decent sound. The bass was not good either maybe because of the built in subwoofer. I just didn’t get the dynamic sound that I expected from Bose. I noticed that each time I tuned on the tv I had to reconnect the speaker after day two it would not connect so I returned the speaker. There are other soundbars with much better quality for small spaces.

Review of Solo 5 Sound Bar

Good Points: I love the Bose Solo 5 sound bar. It was a great price in the sale and although I am no expert, I feel that for the money the sound quality is very good. It looks stylish and is wall mounted below my new LG 48” OLED TV, which has made a huge improvement to the depth of the sound on the TV. I didn’t appreciate when buying my new TV that although I would have fantastic picture quality, the sound quality would be a backward step compared to my old TV (due to the OLED TV being ultra thin, resulting in the speakers lacking in bass). My partner was able to set up the sound bar, so that the majority of the functions of the TV could be controlled solely by the Bose remote control.Improvement Points: For watching TV, I can just use the Bose Remote Control, but when using the TV with the Internet, e.g. on iplay, I have to use the LG remote to get onto the Internet functions. I’m not sure whether there is a way around this, but suspect not, from other reviews I have read from people who appear tech savvy. I don’t know whether this is also an issue with others makes of TV. Also, when using the Bose remote to control the volume for the TV through the sound bar, there are no numbers on the sound bar, or on the TV screen, to show the increase/decrease of level in volume. For people that rely on watching their TV on a specific volume number, it means a bit of guesswork to get to the volume that suits you.

This is the best purchase I could've made, smaller footprint, bigger sound !

Until recently I have had one of the older Bose TV sound systems purchased in 2011. The price I paid for the refurbished model is less than I paid in 2011 ! I trust the technology of Sound that Bose possesses and happy I did ! This New speaker sound system is more than I could've imagined. The new remote replaces two of my current remotes. I can choose the type of sound for better dialog or music. I normally wear hearing aides but find that I don't need to enhance the sound anymore than what Bose produces. I am extremely happy with my purchase and glad to be loyal to Bose.
