'Sound is Power' from the Soundlink Max!

My most recent purchases of the QC Ultra & Ultra Open Earbuds have demonstrated the new direction for Bose. They have always been synonymous with premium quality and sound, but they have really been working on the latter in the last year. There is a depth & clarity to the audio that shines through. I took a listen to some of my older Bose products for reference and soon realised they lack the upfront surefootedness of current Bose products. I took a listen to some of my older Bose products for reference and soon realised they lack the upfront surefootedness of current Bose products. The modern age of Bose provides a customisable experience also, just head to the app for EQ settings to tune to your liking. This brings me to their latest product the Bose Soundlink Max. From the new style of colour packaging (departing the white, black & grey of Bose past) this hypes the Max with it is subtle hints to flaming bright orange & red. Unboxing the Max is as easy as ever just don’t miss the operational hints on the inside of the box. Unwrapping the Max from the protective packaging reveals a small & weighty form factor speaker, I like to think of it as a symphonic lunchbox. It is well made in premium quality materials and the silicone/rope handle adds a flair to the speaker. Although it shares visual ques to its smaller sibling the Soundlink Flex, the Max is in a different league entirely from an audio perspective. A USB-C cable is provided to charge and once it is at 100% get ready for the Max to shine! Any genre you throw at the Max will be reproduced with a stereo room-filling sound & bass that makes you question the size of the speaker. The audio separation is impressive which is helped by the angled drivers (articulated array) within the Max, and you can feel the bass from the speaker. Then its party piece, it can be carried anywhere you want to take the sound. BBQ, beach, forest, garden, bedroom, the choice is yours! I have also found it is fantastic for watching movies as a substitute for a soundbar. There are a few little negatives to this speaker such as a lack of microphone for taking calls, and the silicone acts as a dust magnet. As a Bose fan I could justify the price but if you are unsure head to a retailer to experience it for yourself in person. The biggest negative for me is the one-way sound, it does not provide 360-degree sound. Position is key for the Max, and you really must be in front of it for it to deliver the best audio quality, however it does go more than loud enough to fill a room or garden space, but just bear in mind its position. I have found the Soundlink Max to be a fun & detailed way to listen to music and it really does have you questioning its size once you hear just how much sound this speaker can push out of its casing. Its primary function is to reproduce Bose quality sound in a versatile, portable & rugged speaker that reflects the ‘Sound is Power’ tagline from Bose. In summary this is has become one of my favourite Bose products that can highlight the capabilities of the brand. Get ready for a chilled listening experience with a coffee, sit back and put your favourite movie on, or gather your friends for a party. The Soundlink Max truly is a versatile speaker and is there to be enjoyed, wherever you want to go!

We have a couple other portable speakers and this one is destined to become our defacto pool and beach speaker. The form factor reminds me of an old school boombox and it has the output to easily match and exceed the ones of my youth. This thing gets loud, with the volume cranked all the way up it could easily be heard 100 feet away quite clearly. I tested it in my single-story house and it was audible through doors at the opposite side of the house. It comes close to rivaling a TV soundbar.I appreciate the removable handle, it comes off pretty easily when you try to remove it but it seems sturdy and unlikely to come off accidentally. I'll probaby get the longer carying cord when it is available just to make carrying it on excursions easier. The ability to charge ... MoreWe have a couple other portable speakers and this one is destined to become our defacto pool and beach speaker. I'll probaby get the longer carying cord when it is available just to make carrying it on excursions easier. The ability to charge your device while using the speaker is great, though it obviously cuts into how long the battery lasts it can save you from bringing a separate charger. Also, the speaker works normally while it is charging too in case you find yourself near an outlet and it is running low on juice. The battery does last a long time but I imagine a full day at the beach near full volume you could run out after 8 hours. In my test of charging my phone while playing music at about 50% of the volume it was loosing about 10% of the battery per hour. The Bluetooth worked well, the connection remained strong even at about 50 feet away with no crackling. The aux also worked as expected, though i don't plan to use it since basically everything we have uses Bluetooth and none of our phones even have an aux port.Overall, this is a really great speaker that puts out a lot of sound for a long time. The one downside is the rubberized outside of the case. If you have pets that shed, it seems to pick up their hair pretty easily. This might also be a minor nuisance with small sand particles; I tested pouring some sea salt on it and after a quick shake there was still a fair amount of small granules left. The salt did come off once I wiped it off with a damp paper towel, but the hairs were a bit more difficult to remove. This doesn't hamper the performance, it is just a minor annoyance and likely the rubber will help protect the speaker from dings and minor impacts.

It beautifully blends modern aesthetics and functionality with the nostalgia of a sound system portable enough and powerful enough to bring together a community. Whether you strap it on to parade down the street or plant it on a party table, this is the speaker you want when you want to share your music with the whole neighborhood. The silicon exterior is moisture resistant, so you can use it near a pool or after a rainstorm with no problem, and it's surprisingly easy to wipe the bottom clean if it picks up any dirt. Considering the price, it's great not to have to worry about messing it up when taking it out and about. The AUX port is also a nice touch and adds utility. The handle is a bit challenging to get on and off, but that security means it isn't likely to fall off accidentally. I would like to see more customization options in the straps than are currently available, maybe even one that is just the attachment points so you can add your own personalized strap with more comfortable padding or unique colors. The possibilities have me excited to see what accessories Bose might release in future. My favorite thing about it is how easy it is to adjust the sound to your liking. You can literally fine tune the balance through the app with the touch of your finger. If you're like me with sensitive neighbors, you can lower the base enough to party hard without bothering them. Want to really feel your music in your chest? Turn it back up in a fraction of a second. Either way, you can also adjust mid and treble to keep the sound balanced. I sometimes had a spot of trouble connecting and disconnecting to it via the app but could do so easily enough in my phone's bluetooth settings, so not a deal breaker and probably more to do with software than hardware. Once it was connected, I could interact with it through the app just fine. Overall, I highly recommend it if you need a solid portable speaker that has everyday utility and can scale up the sound when you're ready to party!

Fantastically portable quality sound
3 June 2024

I have been a fan of the quality products produced by Bose for the past 15 years and this new addition absolutely lives up to the name. For years I have used the original SoundLink Mini for some music at small friends & family gatherings and it has worked a treat. The Max, however, is a cut above - it can produce a much louder sound maintaining the clarity but providing a nice bass.I have taken it to a family BBQ, and it impressed all with its amazing sound in a surprisingly small size. Don't get me wrong, this is big for a Bluetooth speaker, but the comfortable carrying handle makes it perfectly portable. (However, the handle is removable if you're so inclined.) Don't get me wrong, this is big for a Bluetooth speaker, but the comfortable carrying handle makes it perfectly portable. (However, the handle is removable if you're so inclined.) I am looking forward to using it in the garden with friends over the summer. The speaker is largely covered in a rubbery coating which prevent it from slipping about on a smooth surface but can be a bit of a magnet for dust/crumbs.The Bose app makes it easy to connect to and set up - you can play around with the EQ to your liking - I was listening to a podcast and the host's voice was a bit to bassy but that was easily fixed in the app - an area for improvement would be some more/customisable EQ pre-sets.The app also indicates battery life - I haven't fully tested it, but the life has been plenty for my sessions so far. My phones battery is a different story but there is the fantastic feature of being able to use the speaker as a charger. The USB-C port and included USB-C to USB-C cable can be used for both charging and using the SoundLink Max as a charger for another device. The aux port is a nice touch to increase the connection options, but I haven't had much need for it with the excellent Bluetooth range. The price may feel a little high for a Bluetooth speaker but, from years of experience with Bose products, I feel assured that the quality will last for a very long time making it great value. If you find yourself out and about with the need for some music with friends, I would highly the SoundLink Max.

My review of the Bose SoundLink Max
29 May 2024

First off I am grateful for the opportunity to test this new product, and thank the Bose team. I have been using the bose SoundLink Max often for the last few weeks upon receiving it, and I'm able to say it's even far better than expected. The first thing i noticed is how loud it can get when on Max volume, which is insane for such a small portable speaker, and that the audio still sounds great even at high volumes. I experimented with different options on the bose app after setting up the device, and have preferred the sound quality more when the bass setting is higher, even though the default equaliser settings are already good, but this is just preference.I like the Acton button on the speaker that allows you to skip songs via double tapping, and pausing with ... MoreFirst off I am grateful for the opportunity to test this new product, and thank the Bose team. I experimented with different options on the bose app after setting up the device, and have preferred the sound quality more when the bass setting is higher, even though the default equaliser settings are already good, but this is just preference.I like the Acton button on the speaker that allows you to skip songs via double tapping, and pausing with single tap etc, however i wasn't sure if I missed this when setting up the device in the bose app, but I didn't see if this option was explained there (like I said I probably missed it if it's there), but figured it out anyway as its the same function as the double/triple tap on my other bose headphones/earbuds.The only issue I had was tuning the sound to an exact level I'd desire, as I found the intervals would be too high especially in the lower volume ranges for me to perfect, and even with sliding my volume on my phone screen, it seemed I was unable to find a perfect volume in these lower ranges, often with the sound being just too loud or too quiet. It would be nice to have a way to find a medium especially in these lower ranges to reach a more preferred sound level.Overall, I have no other complaints with the speaker at all, and hope this review is able to be of some use, as literally everything else has been perfect with it, and have no other issues with it at all. I also think that the handle on top fits excellently and adjusts perfectly. Thank you for reading!

Small Speaker, BIG Sound
19 June 2024

I've been using my BOSE SoundLink Max for a few weeks now. Safe to say, I am very happy with the speaker - I'm impressed by the overall quality of the product and the incredible sound it produces. The speaker has a small form factor - virtually the same size as a 4 Pint bottle of milk (in UK market). It is quite heavy, which does make me question how comfortable it would be to carry long distances by hand. However, the integrated handle is very comfortable, feels well-made and the weight of the speaker and materials give it a high-quality feel. The speaker comes with a charging cable (USB-C to USB-C), but not the power brick to plug it into a plug socket. This was a little disappointing, as I did not have a power brick already to use with this type of cable, but ... MoreI've been using my BOSE SoundLink Max for a few weeks now. This was a little disappointing, as I did not have a power brick already to use with this type of cable, but once I bought one it was quick and easy to charge. The battery life is also great. I have had the product for a couple of weeks now, and with daily use I have only needed to charge it twice in that time. A full charge really does last a long time. Now on to the important part - the sound. My expectations have been well and truly surpassed with this speaker. It produces such a deep, rich bass for such a small device. It really THUMPS and I'm always surprised at the the depth of bass it produces - which is nicely balanced with the clarity of the treble. I've tried the speaker with several different types and genres of music - all of which sound fantastic.Although I had intended to use this speaker mostly outdoors / in the garden / picnics in the park (which it works beautifully for), I have found myself using it mostly indoors. It's great to use to enjoy my music whilst cooking, cleaning, working out etc. The portability of it makes it so easy to bring the tunes to any and every room in the house. It works great in the bathroom whilst I take a relaxing bath or a disco shower. It just fills the room with sound.Overall, I am super happy with this product. The quality of the sound, the portability and even the battery life are all outstanding. I would recommend to anyone in the market for a small bluetooth speaker for indoor/outdoor use!

I recently got my hands on the Bose SoundLink Max, as a loyal bose headphone user who went through three bose headphones, I have to say, bose does not disappoint. This speaker looks amazing right out of the box. It has a sleek, modern design that fits well in any room and the handle feature makes it extremley easy to carry around and also suitable for hanging out with friends in a park. The dustproof and waterproof feature also make it perfect for at beach or by the pool but I haven't had chance to test it out.The sound quality is super good. I link it to my laptop when I am watching shows or youtubes at night and I rarely need to charge it, probably once per week. It also comes with the feature to charge phones, which means I can take it out for a whole day withouth worrying about it or my phone dying on me, it's literally a power bank. It's a bit of on the heavy side but who cares when you have this impressive battery life.Pairing it with my devices was super easy and you can connect to multiple devices seamlessly! One press on the button and you are ready to go. The connection is stable and I can wander pretty far from the speaker without losing the signal. This works like a dream compare with my old bluetooth speaker.Overall, i am really happy with the Bose SoundLind Max. Solid battery life, great sound, cool design that is both stylish and durable and packed with features that make it easy to use. If you are looking for a portable bluetooth speaker that sounds amazing and can keep up with your on-th-go lifestyle, this is definitely worth checking out.

The pinnacle of portable music

Bose have really outdone themselves with the Soundlink Max. We’ve been incredibly impressed how Bose have managed to produce such a small portable speaker that is capable of pumping out such punchy bass and a crisp and clean sound. No matter the setting this small but mighty speaker has outperformed our expectations from the outset. Indoors I’ve had family members comment that the depth of sound is so rich and natural it feels like the artist is in the room with you and you’re actually at the concert. To top it off the deep and punchy bass the Soundlink Max is able to put out is just unreal too. The Soundlink Max has an IP67 rating which makes it dustproof, waterproof and it FLOATS so whether we’ve been relaxing at home, having a BBQ, washing the cars or when time ... MoreBose have really outdone themselves with the Soundlink Max. The Soundlink Max is deceptively heavy for its size however the handle which is a great addition to the design, feels very secure in how it connects to the speaker and makes carrying it effortless while the silicone coating (although it does seem to attract a little dust) makes cleaning the speaker as easy as giving it a wipe with a clean damp cloth after a day out. A simple and elegant design with the feel and sound quality that I would expect from a Bose product. I can honestly say that Bose with the Soundlink Max have succeeded in producing an incredible little portable speaker capable of producing powerful bass and a beautifully clean sound that is always a pleasure to listen to. Our music can now be enjoyed everywhere we go and true to the words of Bose, Sound is Power, Party to the Max!

Unmatched Sound Quality Meets Modern Design

The new Bose portable speaker has made quite an impression with its combination of sleek design and superior sound quality. In this review, I delve into the various aspects that make this speaker a standout choice for me, as well as some areas where it could see improvements.Positive AspectsSound Quality - The sound quality of the Bose portable speaker is truly remarkable. The audio output is rich, clear, and well-balanced, with a noticeable depth that enhances the listening experience. Whether you're listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks, the clarity and fidelity of the sound is exceptional. The bass is punchy without being overwhelming which is an issue with most modern speakers, mids are smooth, and highs are crisp. Even in open environments like the beach, the speaker maintains its high sound quality and volume.Equalizer Performance - The equalizer allows for a decent degree of customization, letting users fine-tune the audio to their preferences. This feature truly makes a difference that you can hear live as you alter it, enabling you to optimize sound quality for different genres of music or various types of audio content based on your taste. The ease of adjusting the equalizer settings ensures that everyone can find their perfect sound.Design and Build - The speaker has a sleek and modern design that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The clean lines and minimalist approach make it a stylish addition to any environment, whether at home or on the go, although I do think it's especially better looking with the black version. The handle is ergonomically designed, making it comfortable to carry around despite its weight (mentioned as a drawback).App Integration - The accompanying app is user-friendly and provides seamless control over the speaker’s settings, including the equalizer, multi-point connections, and programmable shortcuts. Currently, I've programmed the shortcut to instantly play my Spotify songs upon clicking on it.Connectivity - Connecting the speaker to various devices is a breeze. It pairs effortlessly with both my mobile phone, laptop and desktop. The Bluetooth connection is stable and connects instantly upon turning on, which is a huge plus for those who value convenience. Additionally, the multi-point connection feature works smoothly, allowing multiple devices to stay connected and switch between them seamlessly. On top, I do like the display of the speaker as an icon under my Bluetooth devices when connected. Similarly to how Apple Devices have their own icon when connected.Battery Life - The battery, lasts for a long time on a single charge, making it ideal for extended use. For example, I took it to holiday and used it constantly for 3 days straight for hours upon hours.Portable Charger - The speaker also serves as a portable charger, which proved to be incredibly useful during my holiday.Negative AspectsRubber Casing - While the rubber casing provides a good grip and some level of protection, it tends to attract dirt easily. This means that maintaining the speaker's pristine look requires frequent cleaning, which can be a bit of a hassle.Weight - For a portable speaker, it is on the heavier side. This might be a concern for those who prioritize lightweight portability in their devices. However, the handle does help mitigate this issue to some extent + the quality of the product makes it understandable as you're dancing to your tunes outside this summer and thanking yourself that you brough it with you :).Price - The price point is quite high, which may deter potential buyers. While the speaker offers a lot of premium features and superior quality, it’s still a significant investment. People on a budget may find it hard to justify the cost for a portable speaker, even one as impressive as this.Good to HaveModular Design - A modular design allowing for customization of functionality, such as enhanced connectivity options (like additional Bluetooth codecs or Wi-Fi), would be a great addition. This would provide users with the flexibility to upgrade and personalize their speaker according to their specific needs.Adaptive Sound Profile - An adaptive sound profile that analyses the environment and adjusts the sound accordingly would elevate the user experience even further. This would ensure optimal sound quality in any setting, automatically tweaking the output to match the surroundings.Integrated Smart Assistant - Integrating a smart assistant would make this speaker even more versatile, allowing for voice control and smart home integration. Although of course you can use your own device's smart assistant to skip songs, play/pause and etc, which would be convenient when in settings where you may want touch-free controls such as a pool.Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the Bose portable speaker after having used it for several weeks in multiple different environments. Whether I'm relaxing at home, enjoying a day at the beach, or at an outdoor gathering, the speaker makes it a memorable addition each time its turned on.
