I've had my Nextone stage for almost 4yrs now, and I will never sell it. My buddy has played an old silver stripe Peavey bandit forever, and they're known for being loud and proud. I plugged in my 40watt Boss amp and was drowning him out! He was so impressed he went and bought a Boss katana. Look,.. the tone and feel of this Nextone is exactly what you're looking for. The effects are stellar and the editor software is easy to use. If you're seriously looking at buying, do it you won't regret it. Just buy the gafc foot switch to control the entire amp hands free. This 40watt amp is plenty loud enough to gig with and the speaker will move some serious air.

The Boss Nextone amps replicate tube amps in a way that has impressed me more than any other solid-state amp that tries to sound like a tube amp. The Nextone does this far better with BOSS's Tube Logic than the Katana in my opinion. The Nextone is like having a Roland Blues Cube with 4 adjustable Tone Capsules on tap. The ability to chose between four different power tube models is very helpful in curating a tone that suits a variety of tonal preferences. This feature makes it easy to dial in tones inspired by amp makers like Fender, Vox, Marshall, Mesa, Orange, and yes, Roland. The Nextone Editor allows the user to intricately edit tones to closely resemble legendary tube amps. However, the best thing about the Nextone's tone editing abilities, is the spectrum to ... The Nextone doesn't try to replicate any specific tube amp, but that's great! It has such a unique character of its own, which I think sounds better than many tube amps.I highly recommend the Nextone amps to anyone who wants a variety of great sounding tube-like tones but doesn't want to carry around a big heavy tube amp. Yes, the Katana series is great as well, but it has too many excess features I don't need and I don't feel that the overall tone is as good. Plus, the Nextone looks better. As someone who has owned and gigged with a vintage Roland JC-120 for almost 20 years, I have come to appreciate the reliability and clean tones a good solid-state amp provides. I can achieve similar clean tones with the Nextone, albeit with added tube warmth and greater dynamics. The Nextone is very responsive, especially when using the attenuator. I can set a nice clean tone and then get some extra grit when I dig in on the strings, even at low volumes. With the Nextone, I constantly have to remind myself that I'm not playing a tube amp. I don't have to wait for the tubes to warm up, and it's not going to get super hot or make weird noises if I bump it. Thanks BOSS!

I ordered this amp a few days ago, and was really pleased with how it sounded when I first plugged it in, but wasn't blown away. However, after a few days of playing around with it, I'm shocked at how good the sounds are I've got dialed in, and I've barely even begun yet to tweak with it properly. It is very loud for home use, even 9n the 0.5 what mode, obviously this is cracked, can still get good sounds at lower volume or with headphones. However, you can now set it to 0.2 Watts through the boss app, so that makes this perfect for home use, as well as cranked up for stage. Perfect amp, don't hesitate if you're thinking of buying this amp, I'm now selling my tube amp vox ac 10.

I've been playing 40+ years, use boutique tube amps mostly but needed something light, small, and able to survive travel because I wasn't about to subject my tube amps to the back of the car covered with luggage and equipment.Videos online for this amp don't do it justice, you have to sit in front of it using your own guitar and start tinkering. I initially sat down with one of my Strats with the amp at 0.5 watts and kind of liked how it sounded and felt, and by the end of an hour had it sounding pretty good, though it sounded thin, which I later decided was the result of a new speaker and the Fletcher-Munson Curve tricking my ears.I sat down with one a few days later and warned the sales person I needed to turn it up. I alternated between 0.5 watts and 20 watts, and, with the master volume at 10, and the lead channel at noon, it got a nice and fat tone with some sag and compression, just what I'd hoped. A bit more tweaking and I felt like it was a good candidate and bought it.Over the last week I've played with the editor, which opens up the amp to you and lets you select from many good starting points, tweak them to your taste, then save them to the amp for your custom preset. The Tweed Lead is what I like, so I stored it and then started tweaking further in the editor and re-writing it to the custom preset. After about an hour I had it sounding very nice in the music room, and based on hearing it louder I figured those setting would work really well.Last night I took it to a jam and played through it loud for a couple hours with my PRS SC-245 and Fender Strat with Raw Vintage RV-50 pickups. The amp worked very well. A friend played very clean R&B on the Strat so I tweaked the amp to 40 watts and the 6L6 tubes, which gave it close to a Twin Reverb clarity and headroom. I'd drop it back to 20 watts and the 6V6 tubes which gave it nice sustain and sag. It's not tubes, it's not modeling, and I don't care. It sounds very good, very tube-like. Check it out.
Ok, here are some comments to my brother about my new Nextone Stage amp. Before getting itI mostly played through a Yamaha THRC that my brother also has.Nextone like THR on steroids bigger sound ..crazy but the half watt is way loud enough for home use, four different amp types fun like the THR but fuller.Really pretty much a dream come true, better than I imagined this thing definitely hits the right spot. Picture a full size THR with a 12 in speaker and four usable amp types with a much larger range of delay and reverb also tremolo which is on the custom factory preset, clean and lead.So I like the break up on lead channel easy to dial in pleasantness there then the clean channel was breaking up with Gibson hum-buckers when turned way up all very nice. ... Sounds maybe ten times as good as the THR so it is very satisfying , That is ten times as large, full, clear and pretty toned......you get the idea.... but I am very impressed with this thing ..inspiring tone is what inspires us to play...so much easier when things are sounding this good, yeah.In the end having so many options with the Boss makes it a winner for me, I haven't mentioned the two boosts one a tone boost adds treble shimmer and the other a gain boost to add oomph to clean or lead channels. Then there is a presence knob which is new to me, subtle but it's there. Yesterday I found that the half power 20 watt is better for clear clean tones even with the strat as it starts to break up in the .5 watt setting when the git volume is on ten.Did try the custom channel with tremolo and overdrive distortion in the .5 watt mode yesterday... this makes it possible to turn volume and gain up without blasting ears.... works well and is a real asset ... this would not be possible in 20 or 40 watt mode......also love the subtle differences between the different tube types and how they influence sound and feel.Ok, I love the new amp, getting great sounds easily both clean and dirty ,,lots of fun.
There is kind of a story behind my purchase. Having spent money on tube amp repairs, I have wanted a solid state amp with effects send/return with 40 watts. I tested the Katana 50, tried the blackstar stereo ID:core and the ID 60, very nice. Then I tried the Peavey Vyprs and Line6 spider V 60. The amp models seemed very nice. But then I tried a Roland Blues cube 30. I was totally blown away, this clearly was the choice. But again, there is no effects send/return. Nevertheless, this was the best sounding solid state amp. Went home pulled up Boss's website to research the Blues Cubes; but I saw a new amp posted, the Nextone. Which had not been released yet. This supposedly had features of the Blues Cube and more and effects send/return. Having seen the video by Pete Honore' (Anderton's) I thought fine I have to try this. I ordered it.At low volume there is hardly a noticeable difference in power tube models. However at louder volume there is. I can see multiple transformers inside. The tone button adds more sparkle to the cleans and low end to the gain channel. After having played this for a few days even at 0.5 watt I found it to be very loud. Dialed in several settings and it sounds like a tube amplifier. It has a more clearer, brighter sound I think than the Blues cube but has a wide range of sounds. Channel switching and boost work well with a Boss FS-6. The clean is very very tube like, even at 0.5 watt and master volume at slightly above 9 o'clock, the high strings sound very glassy with wide and dynamic transients. I set the SAG setting a bit high as an experiment, so that low strings do not generate big transients. Very enjoyable amp, If you want a solid state amp with tube like sound, definitely have to try this. I put an Ice vox overdrive in front of it, sounds beautiful. ToneEditor app allows for eve more flexibility. It is very loud!
I typically play through tube amps, but there are a few solid states that I enjoy for home use, like the Roland Blues Cube Hot and the Roland Jazz Chorus 40. The Boss Katana is also pretty decent, and a steal for the price, so I figured that I ought to check out the Boss Nextone to get something a little closer to my Blues Cube sound. Right off the bat, I was done with the amp. Both channels were very bassy, and they didn't really punch through the mix. I felt like I was playing guitar through a bass amp. I remember having this concern when the amp first came out, and I tested it out at Guitar Center, but I must've forgotten. I own a small tube amp (15w) and the Katana 100. I was hoping for a near tube experience. Firstly, this amp is generally underpowered, so I would advise against the 40watt version. Secondly, this will not sound as good as the basic tone from my 10 inch speaker tube amp, no matter the tweaking. If you have a Katana and use pedals in front of it, enjoy your Katana, the 100w is uber loud and by the time you put pedals, the difference between tubey-ness is gone. Neither has the nuances and lack of ice-pick from solid state.Best use would be to integrate with midi floor controller to take advantage of the preamp eq and give yourself different settings for your single coil vs humbucker etc. Wanted to love, but this cork sniffer approach to solid state seems a waste of ... I bought this because it sounded great on the web demos but was very disappointed when I got it home. Tried it for a few weeks and had to tinker at length with the editor to get any decent tones from it. All the amp models sounded pretty much the same out of the box.It is a great looking amp and solidly made with good quality dials. The editor is easy to use and allows lots of 'tweakability'. But I had to invest too much time in the editor for my liking though in order to get a decent tone. I am using an Ultra Stratocaster.I would suggest to anyone that you trial it in the shop first.I took mine back for a full refund, no problem.
Perfect AMP. Exactly what was looking for. I play at home for myself and wanted to plug and play with minimal EQ tweaking with real tube amp sound without the maintenance. Play blues, Hendrix and zeppelin. All sounds great with strat and les Paul. Plimsoul pedal sounds good especially on clean. Only downside was the reverb is a bit weak but there is an editor. If was a tube amp would be good on its own. But that it is actually a solid state makes it wonderful. Lead is marshal like. Cleans are good but not fender clean. Though, with 6V6 it does sound like my old excelsior that I traded in for the nextone. The different valve options are subtle and should be. Also, if like to spend time tweaking as much as playing may want to look at the Katana. For pros this would be a great practice amp and back up amp. Though, it does get quite loud at full volume. Of which very nice to have 0.5 watt choice for night home playing.Usually solid states have less volume than tube amps with same wattage. Not so here.If you want plug play no maintenance tube amp that is both good clean and great lead then this is your amp.
