Boss OD-1X Overdrive Pedal

Lovely, chunky build quality. Not geeky enough to start weighing pedals, but this is a proper lump of metal. Excellent OD pedal. Can only comment on use with my rig, which is a jazzmaster with an ancient HH 100w transistor combo, set to half power, with a clean, dark and woody tone.If you are careful with the EQ and the gain it can offer a fairly transparent boost. If you dial in extra EQ you can tweak tone very effectively and just leave it on as a clean boost / tone tweaker.If you want the OD, then just dial in the gain - instant sparkly Tom Petty sounds jump out at you, give it a bit more and you are in Malcolm Young territory. As this is not a pedal with a traditional OD circuit - but is a digital processor Boss have taken the option to give somewhat wider ... MoreLovely, chunky build quality. So if the gain is whacked all the way up you have something that would pass for a distortion pedal, with a convincing 4 x12 big bottom end. Another bonus of it's digital architecture is it's very low noise floor.As I said, I am not running this into a valve amp, I have no idea how good this thing is at pushing the front end of a valve amp into break up. But as Boss have got everything else 100% spot on with this pedal, I would be inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt.Compared this alongside a J. Rockett Archer Icon and a quality tubescreamer clone and with a bit of tweaking it could match the best (to my ears) sounds of both - and a flexibility over and above the other two.IfI had room for 1 pedal in my gear bag, it would be this one.

Bass....lots of bass - bottom end - lows

I have never experienced an overdrive FX that could do so much and sound like a match-made-in-heaven with a variety of guitare and amps. I have tried this with a Strat, ES-335, flying V metal guitar through Fender princeton reverb, small solid state marshall and even through a PA. They all sounded FANTASTIC !The market for OD pedals has exploded even more in these last 5 years. The reason for this is simply besace of the explosion of cheap guitare and amp gears. Best Boss overdrive pedal ever made.

Best Boss overdrive pedal ever made. Sounds fantastic on low or high gain settings. It is a strong pedal volume-wise, I have the level at only 10 oclock to equal my clean tone level. Its plenty. Very quiet as well. Im using a pearly gates humbucker in a fat strat. It has transformed my sound. I cant say enough good things about how great this pedal is.

Best overdrive made!

I have them all from Fulltone to MXR. This pedal is all class from looks to quality of parts and sound. Don't confuse this with a distortion pedal, it's an overdrive. It's very nature sounding and brings out the quality of your amp and guitar. The better your rig the better this sounds. I use an Orange amp, a Fender twin and a Blackstar. I also use Presonus studio with Allen & Heath. I play PRS custom 24s and a Musicman JP15. This pedal is as good as it gets. It's virtually silent when you engage it, zero line sound. It work perfectly with all my pedals. I never turn things up all the way, you shouldn't have to. If you need to blast the level and the gain then your not looking for an overdrive pedal your looking for a distortion pedal. Boss OD-1X Overdrive Pedal

I wanted to buy an overdrive pedal for a long time and I spent countless hours on the internet trying to figure out which would work best for me. And this particular product was what caught my eye. And it surely did deliver. The Boss OD-1X Overdrive Pedal is one of the best overdrive pedals you could find. If you think the price is too high, I would like to tell you that for the quality it offers, it is nothing but a huge bargain. It produces almost no noise even at very high gain settings which was wonderful. I guess I don't have to specifically mention how awesome its sound quality is. Also, it has a great design and appearance. Overall, if you are looking for an overdrive pedal, this could be your best bet.

I bought the OD 1-X to replace a 1980 MIJ Super Overdrive that I thought was emitting a low level hum (which turned out to be a bad Boss power adaptor)Guitar Player magazine was correct, the OD 1-X may look similar, and both are called overdrive, but they are different beasts. The OD 1-X is clearer, with less midrange, better EQ control and higher output, but slightly less gain and sustain, which can be compensated for by turning up the gain.I use an overdrive as my crunch and lead sound, as opposed to using it to goose an already overdriven amp. Great pedal, Awesome sound. I have the 40th anniversary model and it sounds great. If you get one I think you will be happy with the sound and sustain from it.

My new favorite pedal.

I was looking to add an overdrive pedal to my board. I read about the OD-1X and was a little leery, since it isn't analog or at least has a large digital component. However, I'm completely blown away by the sound quality and responsiveness. I'm pretty sure this would not be possible without the Boss digital MDP circuitry and I don't believe this could be duplicated by analog circuitry alone. Boss has seriously stepped up their game with this one!

Superb Overdrive Pedal

This is the best overdrive pedal I own. The sound it produces goes from it just being an almost clean gain pedal to a really wonderfully rich overdrive sound that responds beautifully to picking dynamics. If you are playing a solo that goes from almost quiet with crescendo to heavy picking action with 2 string power chords - it sounds so good. I know it's a digital pedal, so not one for the die hard analogue freaks, but the background noise is almost non existent at all levels of volume and drive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Suprisingly Good

I can not fault this pedal. lts dynamic and reacts. Also very versatile. I use it as a boost to a marshall 2205 and plexi, and it works very well with other pedals. Has tons more output than the ds1 and sd1. Like many have said, it's a little scooped, but you will be glad you have it when cranked at live levels because tube amps tend to go to the middle when cranked. ( old marshalls anyway). String seperation and clarity is second to none. No smearing like you get with analog overdrive.They finally fixed the led.Digitech tried this some years back and were very smooth but felt as if you were playing a 'recording'.- almost too smooth. The boss has a dynamic character that reacts not only to amplitude, but pick attack, harmonics ect. Very quite too.Quality is great ... MoreI can not fault this pedal. lts dynamic and reacts.
