Have been using the Line 6 G10S, which suffered terribly from constant radio dropouts after the urgent firmware upgrade. This Boss WL20 is a vast improvement, with excellent radio range, and no dropouts, even through multiple walls. When it does reach the edge of range, the audio starts to slightly crackle, and not completely drop out like the Line 6.Don't waste your money on the poorly engineered, and more expensive Line6 product.Get the Boss.

Really sadly, I cannot recommend this Boss item. I usually would but they have dropped the ball here. The simple give away for me was when I used it on acoustic guitar through a high quality PA. The degradation of sound quality was very pronounced upon A/B with cable. Clarity of tone & bottom end are lost.2nd issue was drop outs & intermittent signal was profound. Tested in different venues, rehearsal situations…Final out come - this is a sub-par product. Cheaper ones on the market are better than this which is quite a shock.

I was very much looking forward to the Boss WL20's. I own the Line 6 Relay G10 but was looking for an even more compact system that didn't use the larger base receiver unit. (The Line 6 G10 works great, by the way). Well, the sound on the WL20 was fine but I had problems with them right away. I noticed drop outs when they were near other RF devices (like another wireless unit from Xvive) - an issue that never occurred with my Line 6. Also, the little switch on the receiver plug, which turns the unit on when inserted, would not work with a number of my pedals. I have two TC Polytune tuners and the unit would not turn on when plugged into either of them. Also, it would not work on the deep offset Ibanez guitar jacks -again, an issue that the Line 6 does not have. So ... MoreI was very much looking forward to the Boss WL20's. Sorry Boss - you need to fix those issues. And as for the Line 6 G-10 - amazing tone and works great - that one I'll keep for sure.

Boss WL-20 Great!!...but
20 April 2022

Overall:Tried another wireless but Boss was easiest to pair. Gig with it for about 2 years, only used cable before. Used on acoustic, electric, bass guitars and drum machine. Plugged into a Alesis SR18 into a TC Helicon Voicelive Touch 2 to a Bose Compact L1. Awesome, sounds great. For me, tonal difference not noticeable. But now I just started getting drop off, lost signal, lights off on receiver (on instrument), happened at live gig. 2nd drop during song had to stop and plug in old faithful, always ready, never have to charge spare cable. Check at home happened again, taking my cable. So comments that battery is not replaceable and lasts about 2 years is my experience. Loved it when it worked but at around $200 a pop and a life span of about 2 years, my $30 cable ... MoreOverall:Tried another wireless but Boss was easiest to pair. Boss has nailed it

Having used a competitive product for nearly two years, I understood the advantages of this new Boss unit going in: it would take wireless one step farther by eliminating the need for a plug-in base unit. And, the sleep mode wouldn't kick-in after just a few minutes; the Boss requires 1 hour of inactivity and it wakes up in a split second. In my studio I find myself switching between devices frequently (amplifier TRIO+ Band Creator, a Boss JS-10 recording system, and occasionally, a pre-amp into a Macintosh). With this wireless system, the rotation is a breeze. The battery life is amazing - though like many Lithium batteries, it took three cycles to get the receive to a maximum charge (so be patient). Oh yes - I've not experienced any signal drop-out, even moments before the battery charge is exhausted (and there are red and yellow lights warning you that moment is approaching). The WL-20 is everything I would expect from a Boss product.

Design Flaw

Overall:This wireless system works great on most of my guitars but on some it doesn’t until I do a modification on the guitar. On some guitars I would experience the cutting out. The problem is that when you unplug the wireless from your guitar there’s a little part that turns the unit off. Problem being is that the 1/4” Jack is a little too short in length. The remedy is to take the input nut off the guitar and stack 2 stock washers on the threads then put the nut back on and snug it up. This worked for me and I hope it works for you. If not experiment with a different number of washers. You get the idea. Other than that it’s a great wireless system

Great little wireless
27 August 2018

This is a great wireless. I've had mine for three weeks, so I can't vouch for the long term reliability. What I can say is that I've done 5 rehearsals and 3 gigs in that time, and I've had no issues with interference or drops at all. I also did some test recordings with a variety of instruments, using the WL20 and cables. The difference in sound is very slight in phones and my recording system, and certainly nothing you will hear in a band setting. Overall, great product.I chose this over other competing products because I love the form factor: both the receiver and the transmitter are battery powered and tiny. So I can use them with any of my amps, any of my basses, with or without my pedalboard. I can use them with my gear, or take them to a gig where the backline is provided and jump right in, without needing more power for the receiver. And the price is great for the quality. So, super convenient, quality product. This is an excellent wireless given the parameters of the design and price point.Note: your guitars/basses do have to have solid, tight fitting jacks with nuts that are more or less flush with the jack so that the on/off pin is pushed in to power the unit. And, as noted, it does not have replaceable batteries. However, these two aspects are part and parcel with what makes it great for me: small and entirely battery powered. Unfortunately, to get around these design issues, you're going to spend more money and have a bulky receiver unit. For me, the convenience and form factor are worth it.So, if you want something small and convenient that sounds great, give the WL-20 a try.

Great product! Love the mobility it offers!
11 July 2021

My son (Experienced) and I (Novice) have put this product through its paces. We've used 5 different guitars and three different amps, various types of music genres, and various locations. We love the Boss WL-20 Wireless! It beat our expectations with the sonic experience and having the mobility option just makes it that much better. Plus ours wives love not having cables everywhere. Highly recommend this product for anyone who loves playing music!

I would certainly buy this item again
3 March 2022

As usual I have great service and Sam Ash stands behind what they sell. I haven't used a guitar chord in over 30 years I always been wireless allowing me to have no boundaries to my show My New Boss WL-20 is awesome with no chord from a battery pack and no antennas on a receiver. It's battery charged with 12 hrs use. Plug in amp plug in guitar both units about the size of a 9V battery. Plug, Plug and Rock Out

One charge cycle is a period of use from fully charged, to fully discharged, and fully recharged again."Also I quote:"If the voltage of a lithium-ion cell drops below a certain level, it's ruined. Lithium-ion batteries age. They only last two to three years, even if they are sitting on a shelf unused. So do not "avoid using" the battery with the thought that the battery pack will last five years".This means when the WL-20 won't hold a charge anymore after the warranty period you have buy a new one. These are one shot devices and I am disappointed at this. I might try to return it and continue to use my current wireless. With replaceable batteries.
