A well constructed bench

A well constructed bench for an item that can be stored in an upright position. Has wheels to aid storage. Great for anyone who needs the space between exercising. Simple to put together out of the box. Pads are comfortable in use. The underpinning plywood is a little thinner than some more expensive benches, so best to check weight limits if you are into serious lifting, but shouldn't be a problem for most users.

Pros:- It looks nice and has good weight to it. It's heavy enough to feel sturdy and light enough to be able to wheel around.- Assembly wasn't too difficult. It took my wife and I about 30 minutes to unpack and assemble, and I usually take things fairly slowly to make sure they're correct the first time.- There's a good range of angles. From decline, to flat, to various inclines, to straight up.- The 4 feet feel very stableCons:- The bench and seat have a wooden frame, and the bolts that connect the metal frame to the bench and seat simply thread directly into the wood, with no type of "lock washer" to keep them from working themselves back out. We've been using the bench for ~2 weeks, and all of the bolts connecting the frame to the bench and seat were very loose already. I've removed them, applied threadlocker, and tightened them again. If that doesn't work we might try gorilla glue to hold the bolts in place. I know you have to check them every so often to ensure they're tight, but these were on the verge of falling out after 2 weeks (and I assure you, they were very tight to begin with). This should be something you have to do every 6 or 12 months, not every 2 weeks.- It's nice that the bench can be stored upright, but the footprint of the upright bench isn't really that much smaller than the footprint of the bench when folded down. Maybe 50%. It's nice, but it's not like a bench that can fold flat and mount on the wall out of the way.- The wheels are too small. They work well if you are on concrete, tile, hardwood, or some other hard surface, but if you're like us and have a home gym set up in your home office or spare bedroom with carpeted floors, the wheels are too small and don't roll well over the carpet. The ~60 lb weight of the bench just sinks into the carpet and you have to slide the bench around moreso that roll it around.

Great product, so-so setup
7 April 2020

I purchased the bench at a discount, bundled with the SelectTech 560 Dumbbells. The bench itself is sturdy and attractive, with premium-feeling materials (worth the full-price cost, in my opinion!) Its opportunities (which led me to give 4/5 stars) are:- Materials: One of the screws for the feet was stripped out of the box, requiring some metal work prowess to screw it into its nut-mate. It comes with just one extra screw and some washers, but the extra screw wasn't the same size as the stripped one. Bowflex should include one extra screw of each size.- Setup: This is mostly on me, but the assembly instructions should show how to lift up the bench for easier access to install certain components. Once the main base is set up, the seat/bench is next. I was lying on the floor upside down and trying to squeeze my hand in places to get screws in when I could have easily lifted the adjustable bench frame for easier access. Since I wasn't yet sure how the bench moved I didn't know how to maneuver it until after I had contorted myself, so seeing an extra "pro tip" in the instructions would have been a step beyond.- Fabric fit: Of the two separate "seat" pieces, the fabric on one is misaligned. This makes it appear the seats are crooked, but they are not. Only someone with a keen eye would even notice.- Storing: When tilted, the bench has wheels to set up vertically and put against a wall. When stowed, it's certainly not as intrusive as I expected! However, the wheels' range of motion is quite small. When putting it away in my bedroom, the wheels are only usable from ~10-40 degrees off the floor. As the bench becomes more vertical I'm basically dragging the rubber washers on my floor. I wish the range of the wheels was a bit more flexible.Overall, it's a comfortable and sturdy bench - I am happy with the purchase! #sweepstakes

I would not recommend this bench
17 February 2023

There is a major flaw with this bench. There is a knob you tighten and loosen when you want to change angle of your bench. Well I tighten it has much as I could but obviously it was not tight enough so I ended up flat on my back with my weights in my hands. I will just say my body has not felt good since this has happened. My suggestion is to make that knob so you can put it through the metal like a pin, I am sure I am not the first to have this happen to. To be honest I will be very nervous to use this brand new bench again. So buyers beware.

Nearly perfect bench

OVERALL:This is a very solid piece of equipment that is worth the investment for your home gym if you frequently use a bench in your workout routine. The overall quality makes me think that I will have this bench for quite some time. A few tweaks would make this bench perfect.PROS:- The packaging the bench was shipped in was excellent. Everything felt secure and arrived undamaged.- Assembly was super quick, the instructions were easy to follow.- The bench itself is absolutely solid. There is *the slightest* lateral movement in the seat due to the pin and bore sizes for the seat hinge, but you won't notice once you are sitting on the bench. I bring this up because anyone who has done arm rows knows what a pain wobbly seats are, and this is a non-issue with the 5.1S.- The materials the bench was made from are heavy duty, and make it feel like the commercial benches I would use at the gym.- The different locking positions (including the decline!) are great.CONS:- My biggest problem with this bench, and the reason I only gave 4 stars, is that the "pin" for locking the back position is a screw. I would have loved a spring-loaded pin like some of the higher-end commercial benches have. It's a minor problem, but sometimes it can be difficult to get the screw to line up while holding the bench back in place.Nit picky/ trivial things:- The leg bar is a little annoying to work with. For anyone who has used heavier weights, you want your legs free to be able to "kick back" the weights. Ultimately, I took the leg rest off (only takes about 2 minutes) because of the way I use the bench, but it would be great if there was an easier way to add/remove it, like a lynch pin system.- The pleather doesn't cover the entire back of the seat/backrest and so there is a bit of exposed wood on the underside. It's a small issue, but I suppose if you were trying to do a deep clean of your equipment, it could be hard to clean that part properly.#sweepstakes

Poor design, welding
2 February 2023

I have other Bowflex products like dumbbells and home gym. Not happy with this bench, even when bought on sale at $250.The adjustable knob is threaded so can't quickly change the angle between workouts. Meaning you have to unscrew and screw it back. I'm dumbfounded by this design, their other products are modular and easy to to adjust, this one isn't.The seat wiggles with 300lbs, my weight plus dumbbells combined. I discovered one of the holes isn't welded properly so there's a screw that can't be fitted to tighten.I spent time putting it together and gave it a chance for over a week. I want to return it, but have to put it together again and take it back. Frustrating, not sure what to do with it.

Pretty Good Bench - Multiple ways it can be adjusted
3 April 2023

Overall the bench is good. It has a nice size and width and it is comfortable. It is easy to move and transport. The cons are that it has a screw in knob for adjustments which is odd - it takes awhile to unscrew, make the adjustment, then screw back. I wish it were a pull knob like other benches. Also, the gap between the seat and the back is pretty big - I wish this was smaller as I often "fall into" the gap.

STURDY EXERCISE BENCH
4 February 2023

This bench is very sturdy and easy to assemble. The adjustable section of the bench is nice because it gives you multiple settings while at the same time the mechanism is very easy to operate. I bought this because it's easy to store in the upright position and because it is a Bowflex product. I was also able to purchase it at a time when there was a promotion from the best from Best Buy so its price was significantly better than anywhere else

This Bench is a Beast!
7 February 2023

I have recently dedicated a room to my personal fitness goals. The first purchase was this Bowflex 5.1S Stowable Bench. My second purchase was Bowflex Select Tech 552 Dumbbells. These are the basis of my training program. I had my first Bowflex bench in my garage back around 1987 and knew I was going to be a repeat buyer because your products are so tough and functional. The 5.1S did not disappoint from the time I opened the package. It was packaged well and had no defects. The instructions were easy to follow and I had it set up in just a few minutes. I am working out daily and using the incline has been an advantage. I'm almost 71 and I am a Bowflex Customer for life! #sweepstakes
