Adds another dimension to an already awesome team game. Makes it more complicated again without changing much. Definitely would not recommend this game for amateur board game players.

Great first expansion to Spirit Island. Introduces two spirits, new tokens which open the game up, many new powers and the event deck which introduces a bit of unpredictability (which you can leave out if you don't like). This is a great stepping stone to the larger and more complex expansion Jagged Earth. Recommended you get this and get some plays in before going for that, but ultimately it's best to have both - if you like the game that is!

This expansion is a must-have for anyone who is a fan of Spirit Island. The new mechanics and features that it adds to the game bring new life and variety to the game without overcomplicating things. They feel like they were meant to be a part of the game from the beginning. The new spirits are fun to play and make use of these new mechanics, but also fit in well with the existing spirits from the base game. The only complaint might be in the new Event cards that add a bit more randomness to the game and can break up the predictability. Some might like this change, some might not. Thankfully, it is easy to choose if you want to introduce this mechanic to your games or not.

As well as two more spirits, adds a bunch of mechanics to spice up a game of Spirit Island to add to the richness of the experience and take it a step away from being a completely solvable puzzle. Events and more Island health, scenario cards add a ton of variability and keep things from getting stale.
Relatively quick for a euro-style engine-building board game. Simple to play yet as complex as you'd like to make it with add-ons. Good to play as a single-player if you can't find someone else to participate. Good also with 2 or 3 people. 4 players can slow play a fraction. 70+ games playing this and still going strong with plenty of interest left in the tank
Great addition to the game. The event cards are brutal and add another level of complexity to the game which can really throw you but offer interesting decision making. The tokens really spice things up meaning that certain lands can’t be explored or built on etc whereas the beasts help add fear. A really fun mix of modules you can throw in if you play a lot of the base game.
5 big stars! This rating assumes you are a fan of the base game. The Branch and Claw expansion gives you more of the good stuff and with the new tokens and event deck it now adds extra layers which make for a more interesting and challenging experience. One of the big selling points of the base game was how by changing spirits, adding adversaries (and changing their levels) the game remained fresh after multiple plays. This expansion doubles down on that replayability and is a must if you like the base game and probably a good interim step before taking the plunge with Jagged Earth.
First encountered this expansion whilst playing Spirit Island on TTS and realised how much more it added to the game. The addition of an Events deck adds more theme and creates more challenging choices. New tokens add more ways to manipulate the island and create new strategic and tactical considerations. Along with all new Powers cards, new Blight cards, a new board extension, and two new Spirits, you're definitely getting bang for your buck.Highly recommended as a first expansion once you've played vanilla Spirit Island a few times.
This small but very full on expansion adds many new rules and events to the game, making the game much less predictable and still not overwhelming or difficult to learn. The new minor and major cards are a refresh on strategy for many other spirits on the base game too.
Great game! Colour of some pieces is slightly different to the base game I had but not enough to matter. Card backs etc identical.Awesome expansion, adds some variety with the events and the new spirits are fun to play! The new tokens and cards add a lot too.
