Braun Classic Analogue Alarm Clock Black BC12B

The BC12 Alarm clock is poorly designed, I have several complaints.I have a clock with a black face, the minute and hour hands are white but the alarm hand is black with a tiny mid green dot on the end making it hard to see. I know the alarm hand cannot be white as it would cause confusion with the other hands but it could be more visible, perhaps do away with the second hand which is yellow and pointless and make the alarm hand yellow.The clock's sits on a small foot. Being so small it is easy to knock over. The snooze and light function is operated by the rocking of the clock on the hinged foot and activates a built in switch when you push down on the front of the clock. Bit if a gimmiky idea and once again due to the poor stability of the small foot it is easy to knock over when activating snooze or the light.The two knobs on the back are for adjusting the time hands and alarm time. The knobs should only be turned one way and the is an arrow moulded into the casing showing the direction of rotation. The arrow is the same colour (black) as the case making it hard to see.The knobs are recessed into the clock body and have a small central lug in which to turn the knob by. Being recessed and small it is very hard to use the knobs, you have to use your finger nails to grip the lug on the button to enable you to turn it.Being an alarm clock it is used a lot when not fully awake so the tasks of enabling snooze or switching the light on is tricky and because of the poor stability is often being knocked onto the floor.I don't know what has happened to designers today but they seem to put looks before functionality.I would not recommend this clock.

Classic, clean design

I had two of these over 20 years ago and they wouldnt even keep time. But I loved the design so I took a chance on this one. I guess thats they write German movement on this version. This one keeps time. Still, I have to admit that I resent that Braun never made things right 20 yrs ago.

Good but not great.

The dials on the back of the clock are difficult to maneuver, to set the time and alarm. Too small. The area that you are supposed to press to get the light to turn on, isn’t simple either. Takes a while to figure out exactly where to press or the light won’t come on. It seems to be made well, which is a plus. I will save it as a back-up. I wanted to love it and I don't.

Good looking, easy to read, and quiet.

My wife has a Braun Classic Travel Alarm Clock that came as a free gift with a Silk-Epil 22 years ago (it has the logo of the 2001 Australian Grand Prix on the dial as can be seen in the photo), and it's still going strong. So when my other brand alarm clock quit, I considered getting the Braun travel alarm for my side of the bed. But I wanted a bigger dial so chose the BC12B. The round styling looks great, the size is good without being too large, and the movement is incredibly quiet. What's more, it can still be read hours after lights out either by the subtle luminous hand tips or pressing the clock down to illuminate the face. Love it.

Stylish but flawed design

The clock is very attractive. The light is very poor, it illiminates the lower right-hand quadrant weakly, the upper left-hand quadrant is left completely dark, you need to rely on a faint glow from the flourescent hand tips. My clock was faulty; the seconds-hand went round but the hour and minute hands didn't move, I returned the clock. It takes a AA battery, rechargeable batteries cannot be used.
