Let’s face it, an Oral B iO brush is an investment, but I got mine at a great price on Amazon with the option to spread payments over five months, so I thought, why not. I’ve used Oral B electric toothbrushes for well over 10yrs and been impressed with their cleaning ability from day one. Being honest, I thought iO was just a way to add a prestige line with too many fancy bells and whistles and an excuse make the brush heads even more expensive - and yes they are expensive, but after a couple of weeks use - I’m sold! The iO mechanism with oscillations and micro vibrations really is super smooth and feels very thorough compared to my previous Genius. The new smooth taper shape of the brush heads feels super-comfortable in every corner of the mouth. The handle feels slimmer - it’s easier to hold and manipulate around the mouth and my teeth feel squeaky clean after brushing. I’ve a dental check up in a couple of months. Let’s see if he comments. As for aesthetics and features: the handle and heads are beautifully designed and manufactures with a real premium feel. The iO6 and 7 are essentially the same as far as brush modes - and I think the five are a great collection. iO7 has the magnetic charging base - which gives the the option to treat yourself to a Charging Travel Case if you wish.I went for a traditional charging iO6 simply because I love the grey opal colour which looks so classy. Sadly iO7 doesn’t come in the grey. If you like one of the iO7 colours I’d probably choose that as it has a minor benefit or two: I think the magnetic charger will charge the handle faster; you can buy yourself that Charging Travel Case later, plus the standard travel case that comes with the iO7 is much nicer than the frankly cheap and nasty version that comes with the iO6. You don’t get the brush storage pod with the iO6 either, but I sourced both on eBay for a few quid to upgrade.I have seen people commenting on battery life. I don’t choose to keep my handle on constant charge, though it says you safely can without damaging the battery. I brush twice a day and notice you lose about 10% of charge with each session - that may be nothing new, but the new, beautiful display screen makes it more obvious by providing a percentage score rather than just a three blocks of light that were used to. I’m sole user of my brush, so charging/battery life is not an issue for me. It could be if I were on holiday for a couple of weeks as I’d have to take the charger just in case. Maybe a slim handle means a smaller battery. For me it’s not a deal breaker. Bottom line. I think the iO8+ handles are too feature rich and consequently over priced, so think what you ‘really’ need. If you want to invest in your tooth and gum health then I think the iO6/7 are a genuine advance and you’ll feel the benefits. Get either at a really good price - half RRP is good and not uncommon - and you won’t regret splashing the cash!

The connectivity to the app is not always accurate when I'm cleaning my teeth. I found the brush heads quite harsh initially on my teeth & gums so have purchased the sensitive brush heads to use but I feel they do not give as good a clean so I swap the brush heads around. The brush heads feel quite chunky & I find it difficult to get around the back of my wisdom teeth but my dentist did say they are awkward to get too so I'm trying to persevere. Oral B claim a full charge would give around 2 weeks use I believe, but the battery life on this brush is nowhere near that! The brush takes ages to charge & by day 5 I've got less than 30% charge which is considerably worse than the Philips brush that I'd been using for about 4 years. The case that came with this brush is very cheap, not really worth providing & again not to the quality of the Philips case that I have. I paid a similar price for the Philips brush 4 years ago to the price I've recently paid for this Oral B due to the special offer in Boots & I thought the Oral B would be better because it's original selling price was £300. I think the Oral B is cleaning my teeth a little better than the Philips but I'm sure my dentist will give a better opinion when I see them at my next check up. Overall I'm disappointed with my choice but will have to continue using the brush because for me it was an expensive purchase & I've bought the additional brush heads too. I wouldn't recommend the brush & I'm very glad I did not pay the full advertised price for it.

This gives a great clean with numerous settings (very similar to the previous one) but overall I’m really struggling to see how it’s an update. Firstly the battery life is terrible & worse than the older model; I brush my teeth for two mins twice a day & this doesn’t last a week, whereas the previous one lasted 10+ days even after 5+ yrs of daily use. This evening (day 6) the battery dropped from 42% to 9% - I’d expect a lot better given the price point & that it’s brand new. It’s also a bit disappointing oralb have switched to more of a sonic head rather than keeping the rotating one, this is a personal preference but the huge price hike for replacement heads is frustrating. Purchased a little while ago and wanted to get to grips with the toothbrush before leaving a review. I have used an Oral B toothbrush before and the one I had before was an older version. This one does take a bit of getting used to. You are on a timer from 2 to 4 minutes to brush your teeth. I prefer to do the 4 minutes just to give my teeth an extra go over. The app shows how well you are brushing your teeth as the area you are cleaning will show up as white. It also tells you if you should add more pressure or less pressure. I started off using the whitening programme and I must admit my teeth are looking better than they did. I am now just starting on the gum care programme so I will have to wait and see on that. The brush head bristles are as not as harsh as they were on my old oral B toothbrush, but work just as good and my mouth does feel cleaner after use. The app is easy to navigate and the settings are easy to do on the toothbrush. Still trying this toothbrush out and getting used to using it. The brush heads are a bit expensive so it's a good idea to shop around online for them, the app lets you know when the heads need changing which is good, my old one you had to watch for the bristles changing colour and sometimes they would last less than three months. So fingers crossed these heads do last three months.

Not worth it for the price

At first the toothbrush was very useful, I liked the different brushing modes, the battery life was decent (6-7 days until next charge) and I definitely felt the difference in my teeth hygiene. However, after less than a year, the battery life drastically lowered and now I have to charge the brush approximately every 4 days. But the most disturbing fact is that after exactly one year of daily use, the toothbrush started working whenever it wanted. Last week I had a little under 50% battery life and the brush just decided to stop in the middle of the brushing session, showing that the battery died. I decided to let it go as it was the first time it has happened but now the exact same thing happened for the second time - with exactly 50% battery life I started ... MoreAt first the toothbrush was very useful, I liked the different brushing modes, the battery life was decent (6-7 days until next charge) and I definitely felt the difference in my teeth hygiene. For the price tag of this brush I think that this is unacceptable…

These seem really good toothbrushes so far.Much better than my old oral b which was 10+ years old. Already noticed some staining has started to go.But dubious about the ai, it doesn’t always gauge which teeth you’re on correctly and I am so determined to get 100% coverage this means my husband and I both brush for over 2 minutes, which isn’t a bad thing I guess. Also I feel like sometimes it asks you to brush harder than is really necessary which is leading to the heads wearing down really quickly. Not good when they’re £15+ for a pair!I would definitely recommend buying this pair. I think it’s really good value for money on one of the latest designs, especially when boots have an offer on. Review of ORAL B iO 6 Electric Toothbrush - Black
20 September 2024

The toothbrush is like any other toothbrush but a lot more expensive. The 2 minutes timer is actually cool as a reminder to brush your teeth for longer but the app with the AI intelligence about were to brush is inaccurate. Often, when I’m brushing an area it’s highlighting a different area or, it doesn’t make a difference where about you are brushing on that specific area. The battery lasts less than 5 days, that means that it’s impossible to take the toothbrush with you for a week holiday, for example, without having to bring the charger.I have been fooled by the advertising but definitely would not recommend the product. It’s just a normal electric toothbrush, no need to be that expensive.

Super compromise for traditional Oscilation Rotation - good alternative for too delicate Sonic
9 October 2023

Super good compromise for traditional Oscilation, Rotation - good alternative for too delicate Sonic Brush and too aggressive mechanical. I was searching long time. Last 7 years used Genius 9000 model. Good, but a bit noisy and too aggressive. I tried Sonic, - too delicate and missing rotation movements, what are super important in my opinion. Search the internet, and it is proven that only a combination of Rotation and oscillation is performing the best. Read some articles based on medical research not demagogical advertisements. eg. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24282870/

Why only two stars?
12 September 2024

The cleaning performance of the iO6 toothbrush is excellent and a great improvement over my previous Oral B brush. However, it is let down by several design flaws that spoil the experience of using it.The smooth finish to the handle makes it difficult to grip with wet hands. The cylindrical handle is difficult to orientate in the mouth. The on/off button is not very easy to locate when the brush is in the mouth.I should never have bought a black handle. I realise this is subjective and my mistake, but a black brush head is very unattractive to use unlike the white brush and handle I have been accustomed to over many years.Cleaning five stars - design none!
