Unbelievable, big, fat square waffles with a crispy exterior and fluffy soak up the butter and maple syrup centre. Used a simple milk, egg, flour, melted butter, baking powder and salt waffle batter mix I found online, took one bar off the right hand dial darkness setting and started on the classic overall setting on the left. I fired it up and used the pre-warm time to mix the batter, just a few minutes. Dosage using the included ladle was spot on, half on one side, the rest on the other. A quick silicone brush of melted butter across the hotplates out of habit. Let the timer do its thing and lifted the lid..... just perfect, the aroma in the kitchen was a mix of sweet toasted butter and warm milk. Light blonde exterior, even colour all the way across. This machine is a winner, lots of waffly breakfast goodness ahead !

Our family enjoys having waffles as a main meal every so often. Till now, was using the single waffle maker, again by Breville (Crisp Control), still going strong, only when cooking up a batch for the family it was a longer process. Anyway, let’s move on to this beauty. Rearranged the menu for the week and opted for waffles today. Definitely a family pleaser, the waffles were so soft and light, crispy on outside as actually shown through the website. The actual size of each waffle was just shy on a slice of bread. They were nice and thick, evenly cooked and colour was amazing. Simply put, they were awesome. The actual Breville Smart Waffle Pro 4 slices was extremely easy to use. They were nice and thick, evenly cooked and colour was amazing. Simply put, they were awesome. The actual Breville Smart Waffle Pro 4 slices was extremely easy to use. Whip up your choice of batter, I made the Buttermilk recipe, turned the on/off dial to required setting - Buttermilk, time automatically sets itself to bake. First batch come out beautifully crispy, so I adjusted the heat level down and got a light golden colour. Opted for slightly darker which was level 6, using right knob and of I went again. An added advantage was the supplied measuring cup - 2 levels : 1 serve = 1/2 cup, 2 serves = full cup. Don’t overfill your servings as the batter will overflow as my 1st attempt resulted. This is where the moat came into use, my slight overflow went into the moat, which also cooked nicely and was munched by my observers. I would have uploaded finished product of waffles, but were to delicious looking and tasting that I indulged and forgot. Overall, is it bulky, Yes. But for me, the unit itself is sturdy, well made - not flimsy or rackety as some other models I’ve checked. With the stainless look, simply wipe down once totally cooled, a little wipe inside and away it goes till next session. Pricey, Yes, but so worth the dollar spent. For me, it cut down serving time, where we were all almost eating together. This was a major factor for me, no soggy waiting between cooks. Delish. So, if you are looking to upgrade or looking for a new Waffle Maker, this is it. Don’t be afraid to make a larger batch of batter, the extra waffles can be stored, ( sealed containers) have them for breakfast/lunch/snack. Simply put into the toaster and viola. Just as scrumptious as if making right then.

I bought this waffle maker because my daughter loves Belgian waffles and I wanted to make them for her as she's been asking me for years. Mind you, this is the first that I've ever used a waffle maker, period. The waffles were amazing, as per my daughter. I made a video showcasing the eating of the waffles, which will be posted soon to my YouTube channel. It's currently being edited.

I am the happy owner of multiple Breville appliances, so I was excited to get the Smart Waffle Maker. The waffles are sublime, though they take a long time to cook. The worst part, though, is the cleanup. Why didn't they make removable plates. It is so annoying, we use the Waffle Maker less, because it is tiring to clean up every indentation on the plates. One has to use a cotton swab or some small cleanup tool and it is quite tedious. Please, Breville, come out with a great waffle maker with removable plates!
I upgraded to this from a 2-square Krups classic waffle maker. I don't particularly like belgian waffles but it's difficult to find a 4-square classic waffle maker. I took a chance on this after reading a review that marked it down for the waffles not being quite as thick as the All-Clad. Well, I love these waffles! They're thicker than my old waffle maker but the squares aren't cavernous. It also cooks them up fast and perfectly crisp and fluffy. They also came out very easily with the use of a wooden chopstick. My only disappointment is that it's really difficult to clean. It huge and heavy and trying to wash it is very awkward. I tried just wiping it down, but it really needed to be scrubbed and rinsed off. Removable plates would be an improvement I'd gladly pay ... MoreI upgraded to this from a 2-square Krups classic waffle maker. My husband is the waffle maker in our house and this was a Christmas gift this year. He was ecstatic opening it and even more happy when he realized that the waffles are crisp, evenly cooked to spec and never a spill with the moat. It was also really nice that the waffles are fairly large and he can make waffles for the family with the usual waffle recipe, only having to wait for two cycles, so he can sit down and eat with the rest of us while the waffles are hot, instead of slaving over a hot waffle iron!
1. It should not take 25 minutes to get the waffles to a point of even remotely resembling a "golden brown" color. 2. Contrary to the other reviews, I had the same experience as another one star review, no matter what settings I use, the waffles are not crispy or cooked. If the "done" sound plays on the waffle maker, but steam is still pouring out of the waffle maker, they are not done! 3. After 25 minutes of waiting for the waffles to be remotely done, I should not have to then put them in the oven, in the hopes of getting a little crispiness to them. 4. I have a mini waffle maker I paid $9.95 for, and the waffles it makes are completely fine, and far superior to the waffles this pricey Breville makes!
After reading many reviews I decided on the Breville Smart Waffle and it was a great choice! I am at the point in life where I can splurge on single use appliances 'cuz you can't make waffles without a waffle maker!-- The cooking function works perfectly. Waffles are perfect every time. I use the dark setting and each batch takes about 7 minutes.-- Clean up is a breeze because there is nothing to do! The waffles come out cleanly leaving nothing behind.-- The spill-over moat is genius. I would not buy one without this feature now that I've used it.-- Manual says to use about 1/2 cup batter per section and that is the perfect amount. No spill-over.-- Maker stays hot so the second batch of waffles can go in as soon as the first batch is out. No waiting for the maker to heat back up.-- One thing to keep in mind: When the lid is open, it needs about 19.5" of clearance. Most cabinets are 18" or less from the countertop. Be sure you have a place with enough height AND an accessible electrical outlet.-- And may I recommend the most amazing waffle recipe ever: Stella Parks Buttermilk Vanilla Waffles (search for it on Serious Eats dot com). Quick and amazing. Family said "better than we've had in any restaurant". (I didn't use vanilla beans, just the extract. Beans will be reserved for special occasions.) It makes 6 waffles on this maker.
This thing is so bad, that if I bought it before any other Breville product I never would have bought another. It makes the biggest mess every time- batter gets stuck in the sides (have fun removing that with toothpicks), the back vent (more fun), not to mention the mess it leaves on the counter. If you're thinking "this chica doesn't know how to use a waffle machine"- the cheap ($40) one we've had for years never lets me down or creates this kind of mess. It's making me hate chicken and waffles- and I LOVE CHICKEN AND WAFFLES!!
I just got this waffle maker and I cannot for the life of me get it to finish cooking my waffles.I am using the same batter recipe I used in my old maker, which came out perfect and crispy every time before that iron broke. I purchased this waffle maker because I usually love breville products- I have the smart toaster and espresso machine and they are fantastic.Even on the maximum darkness setting on this waffle maker, I cannot get waffles to cook fully. I have had waffles sit in the maker through 4 full cycles on the dark setting and still come out floppy and undercooked.I sit here writing this review after my third attempt to make waffles in this machine and having let one batch sit through four full dark cook cycles only to come out soggy and underdone.I ... MoreI just got this waffle maker and I cannot for the life of me get it to finish cooking my waffles.I am using the same batter recipe I used in my old maker, which came out perfect and crispy every time before that iron broke. It just won't cook my waffles.
