I received this item Oct. 2021 after waiting for it on backorder since July 2021! Totally worth it! I read some negative reviews which frightened me but honestly, I've had nothing but very positive experiences with it! While I'd love an Ooni, a small apt in NYC with no balcony means this Breville is a safer alternative, Lol. So, first thing first: If you get fat on the stone, yes: it WILL stain. But that's normal and didn't affect the quality of the actual crust for me. I'm uptight and wanted a spotless stone too, but had to make peace with the stains and be more mindful about how I dressed my pizza so that cheese and oil wouldn't be spilling over. That being said, it actually does not make a difference in the quality of the actual pizza! This baby has given me ... I use the NYT Roberta's pizza dough recipe that combines type 00 and APF. Fluffy and light and crisp! What I also love is that I don't have to set off my smoke alarm or empty out my entire oven just to pre-heat my big oven for a 6-min pizza. This thing keeps the heat contained within the appliance! Very happy with this purchase!Oh - and one more thing: it's true that you will fare better with a thinner crust if you want to add more robust/thick toppings as it is indeed close to the top burner (not an issue for me though)

I bought this oven and in no time, I could not use it. The pizza stone turned pitch black despite my best efforts to protect it with parchment paper. Once the stone turned black, it smoked up the whole kitchen and turned our ceiling black. Then, I was not able to purchase a replacement clean/white stone. It's poorly designed and the company is not helping me to make this machine workable going forward by making it easy to replace the pizza stone.

I didn't even get 10 uses out of this before it crashed. It heated up then the heating elements died out. Kept trying to get it to stay hot to no avail. Another review mentioned the top heating element being too close to the top surface of the pizza which is something that I was less than thrilled with. Made for a real mess. Plus when it did function I found I had to make quite small pizzas so that the baking area inside was sufficiently able to accommodate the pizza. I really wish this thing weren't a useless hunk of junk.

Bought mine years ago. May have even been the first Christmas they came out - do cook on parchment ( slide is out part way through if you like) - keeps your stone cleaner. Do scape off the stone after it cools. You do have to be aware that dough that hasn't rested and been stretched may rise and hit the burning elements. But the window allows you to see if the dough is rising so you can intervene.Kids loved it - everyone got to make their own mini pizza with the toppings they liked. Very sad that I plugged it in tonight and nothing. Worked fine last week - today dead. Really expected a longer life, Was thinking about buying a replacement stone this year, glad I didn't.
I purchased this pizza maker for myself as a fun activity to do with friends. I have owned it for 3 years and used it >10 times. Last night I realized the machine had broken. It no longer gets hot enough to cook a pizza. Customer service does not stand behind the product- the warranty is for one year so you can expect this machine to last one year. I would save yourself the 'dough' and get a pizza stone or cast iron and use your broiler on the oven. I wouldn't recommend this overpriced and poorly made pizza maker to anyone- you will end up disappointed. Customers need to expect more from 'luxury' brands or we will watch the quality continue to diminish. As a side note- this also only makes personal sized pizzas and if you have more than 2 people you will not be ... Customers need to expect more from 'luxury' brands or we will watch the quality continue to diminish. As a side note- this also only makes personal sized pizzas and if you have more than 2 people you will not be able to eat together (each pizza takes roughly 10 minutes and needs to be actively turned to cook evenly). If you need to make 40 pizzas it will take at least 40 minutes of cook time and you'll have to also keep your oven on and dirty more dishes to keep things warm.
We love this! This is our second one. We make family pizza every Sunday and this little appliance is a real workhorse. It’s easy to care for and gets fairly hot so the pizza is good. After a few years it didn’t get as hot so we just got a new one and we are back in business. I can’t bear to pay $800 for one of the fancier pizza ovens that get hotter. For a reasonable price this one really works well. I make dough and then form the pizza on a wooden peel and slide it right onto the hot stone. 7 minutes later we have pizza. 5 stars.
We received this product a few years ago for a Christmas gift. It wasn't love at first sight as we assumed it was just be another single use kitchen appliance that would take up space and gather dust. However, once we started using it, we were sold. It makes the most delicious pizza - the crust gets crispy and it cooks so fast! It's like wood fired pizza without the hassle. We have fun making pizza after pizza with our kids. We love the fact that it is electric, can be used indoor or outdoor, and is super easy to use. Highly recommend!
First of all to everyone who has problems with this unit, it is most likely YOU and not the pizza maker. It does have limitations given its size and 1200W total heating capacity. Also you're not going to fit a caveman mounded pizza in there as the clearance is very limited. If the toppings hit the upper element you've created a smoke machine. Also you're limited to a max of 12" crust at best and the more round your dough roll out the greater coverage of available cooking surface you'll achieve. So if you're not satisfied with a max 12" pizza look elsewhere. But working within its capabilities you can achieve quite good results, decent bottom crust, fairly even top cooking with a few rotations during doneness checks, and better than expected cornicione (perimeter ... So if you're not satisfied with a max 12" pizza look elsewhere. But working within its capabilities you can achieve quite good results, decent bottom crust, fairly even top cooking with a few rotations during doneness checks, and better than expected cornicione (perimeter crust rising). The popular approach of assembling the raw pizza on parchment paper is recommended for more than just ease of transfer. It also lets you size and shape the crust to maximum footprint using dollar store 12" paper. Although I still load the pie with a metal peel, the square paper excess then allows exact centering on the stone, avoiding the likelihood of the upper lid contacting the edge of the raw dough. Let that alone for about 2 minutes and using the same peel you can separate the now firm bottom from the paper, removing it to allow direct contact with the stone for bottom browning. My toppings are rather thick so I pat down the raw pie with the peel bottom to better insure nothing hits the upper element. Occasionally something gets stuck on the upper element anyway so keep a pair of metal tongs around to remove and return to the pie.Honestly I can do about the same with a stone in a home oven set to 550*F, and accommodate larger pies as well. But I can't take the home oven outside in the summer to keep it from defeating the A/C. And the simple but effective thermostatic control gives more consistent results compared to the LP fired outdoor pizza ovens which don't have the option of inside use.The one thing I'd like to see is a re-work of the hinge mechanism such that a riser ring could be added to the upper clamshell for better accommodation of thicker pies, as well as locating the upper element further away from the pizza to even out hotspots. And please use this device for its intended purpose, fresh/raw dough pizza baking. Not those supermarket frozen dough balls of dubious composition and certainly not the boxed frozen "ready to go" horrors exiting an industrial factory. For fresh dough of 65% hydration, about 280~300g balled after the first rise at room temperature then a secondary rise in the fridge for 1~2 days seems to result in the optimum tossed size for this device.
I bought this today and was lucky enough to get it at a thrift store. Even for the full price it is worth it. I have a pizza stone in my oven, but my oven is large. This is a countertop unit and works amazing. I followed the instructions exactly and my 12 inch frozen .pizza took only 6 minutes to cook to perfection. I did not have to heat my big convection oven and heat the whole kitchen up, and this is absolutely one of my favorite Breville countertop appliances now. I have many Breville appliances and I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys real brick oven type of crust and taste. A total winner!
It’s Valentine’s Day. I purchased all the things to make pizza with my kids. Everything is set out! The pizza maker worded last time. Today of all days- it trips every single outlet I use if I turn it on. It even got a bit warm for a second so I had hope. But no luck. It’s dead and it couldn’t be a worse day for it. Nothing happened. No drops or damage. So very disappointed
