Although the model number is the same on our new one, there are some differences. The stainless steel finish on the body shows marks more easily than the previous painted finish. The plug is much improved as it is flat with the cord extending from the plug at an angle such that if plugged into the top receptacle the cord does not block the lower receptacle. The last niggle is that the end of cycle chime ( 5 beeps) is much quieter than the previous.Overall we like this oven a lot. I does everything very well. That is why we chose it for a second time. The price is higher than I would normally expect for a toaster oven but this is a solid and durable machine that I expect will have a long life.

I mentioned that to the customer service rep. It would seem like they would recall the models instead of building all the illwill against their products. Never again Breville! Compact, easy to use, minor shortcomings

My ancient under-cabinet toaster oven, circa 1980s, finally died. That model has not been sold for years, so after revewing numerous replacement options I picked this compact counter-top oven, which appeared to be well-suited to a 2-person household. The capacity is slightly smaller than my previous oven but it has performed well toasting bagels & garlic bread, roasting asparagus & potato slices, baking fish fillets, and reheating frozen waffles. I found it easy to use with a little practice after reading the manual. The rack height guide on the door is an excellent idea. I tested temperatures with an oven thermometer; they were within 25 degrees of the temperature shown on the oven display. I have a suggestion for improvement: After preheating, require START to be pressed again to begin the timer countdown OR add a 10-15 second delay. Right now the countdown starts immediately upon reaching the set temperature. There is a [beep], but if I'm in another room it can take a little time to get back to the oven so the baking/roasting/reheating time will be shorter than set.

Doesnt heat properly and rack falls out easily
11 December 2023

Overall it’s a decent toaster oven but there are a couple glaring problems: 1. The rack glides in and out too easily. When you have a sheet pan or food on it, the whole thing slides all the way out even when you don’t want it to! There’s no safety catch on it. I’ve only used it a couple times now and every time I’ve had a hot rack come flying out with the food I’m trying to remove. 2. It doesn’t heat to the proper temperature even when the oven is empty. I preheated it to 350 and it said it was done but it literally took 30 seconds. I stuck my hand in and it didn’t feel right. So I put an oven thermometer inside and it read 200. When set at 400 it read 350. The elements would turn on for a second, not heat up to red hot and turn off. It just hasn’t worked so far. I’m not sure why… I’m going to give it a couple more tries and maybe replace it. If something changes I’ll update my review but as it is I’d give it 2 stars.

We have owned quite a few toaster ovens in the past. This unit toasts nicely. And has a variety of functions on the dial.In our opinion, there is a big problem as the rack / grill does not slide out of the oven when the door is opened. You can't reach in to get the item toasted as the opening is very small, and you get burned on the very hot metal surrounding the opening, if you try.So you have to pull the rack out by hand. This can be done by placing a knife in the grill / rack and pulling it out. I bought this toaster oven based on the great reviews so I had high expectations. For me, it's just okay. I do love the size. It is small, great for a single person or small kitchen. As far as the actual cooking goes, it does the job alright but my older cheaper toaster oven did the same job at a fraction of the price. I hate the toaster function on this. My bread didnt really toast well and I tried it at different levels of darkness. It toasted evenly, just took forever! I dont like the preset times since it would turn itself off so if I'm not watching it I have to turn it back on and adjust the settings once again. That applies to oven and toast. I'm not as impressed with it as other folks (here and online elsewhere) are. I could have saved about $100 and purchased the same thing with similar features and controls only just without the big name. By the way this thing gets HOT! For a small oven that typically goes under a cabinet (or near one) this should have some heat protecton.

Shuts off during cooking cycle
12 March 2024

I have owned this toaster oven for a couple of years. Works pretty well, but there is an elementary function that doesn't work right. If I want to toast bread, when I put the mini oven on toast cycle, the heating coils turn on and then off and then on again, sometimes more than once, during the cooking cycle. Additionally, when I want, for example, to melt the cheese on my sub sandwich, I use the broil cycle. I thought broil meant top heat. But in this case just like the toast cycle, the upper and lower heating elements turn on and then off, some times more than once, during the cooking cycle. I don't get it. Why do the heating elements repeatedly turn on and off? Doesn't matter whether the door is open or not. I wish it would just finish toasting my bread please.

Something had to be wrong with the thermostat. When I started to look around for a small toaster oven I didn't expect it to be so difficult. I saw the Black & Decker and Hamilton Beach basic toaster ovens, but I don't like their bottom dial. It gauges the toast shade & another function (I can't recall what it is). To set the shade for your toast, you literally have to turn the dial to the right pass a certain spot, then back to the left, and again to the right for the desire setting. Pretty darn antiquated, if you ask me because it's been like that since the 70s. The other companies are really focusing on the large toaster ovens. They do everything, except clean your house.I eventually came across this one. I did some reviews online by independent testers and it received really good scores. I'm very happy with my new toaster. It toast 4 slices evenly. Number 4 is a nice medium brown setting. NOTE: The rack has to be in the middle of the toaster oven to properly toast. I love making tater tots in a toaster oven (it's quicker that way). The tots came out almost as good as my regular oven. Both tots and bread crisp really well on the outside and remain soft on the inside. I have yet to try a bagel.Another thing I really like, is how fast I can get from the toast to bake options. My Cuisinart had too many options. It took forever to jump from point A to point B. Furthermore, the crumb tray is removable from the front. It also has a countdown timer for baking, whereas the Cuisinart Inferno model did not have that. Now, let's see if it can last longer than 5 years.

I've tried various techniques to resolve the issue, with increasing/decreasing toasting levels, allowing the bread to sit in the oven for a few minutes to disperse the moisture and making sure the rack is in the toasting position. Also, the wire rack has the spokes facing upward per the recommendation of the owner’s manual. However, it's not a deal breaker when all is said and done. I’d still recommend the Breville Mini Smart oven as it’s a great addition to any kitchen and countertop.Very Useful Appliance
