This is my second Breville espresso machine. I originally had Breville Bambino Plus Espresso machine and really liked it. It is a standalone machine, ie did not have a built in grinder and tamp system, so I had to also purchase a coffee grinder. The Breville Barista Express Impress is a very easy machine to use and includes everything. It makes great espresso and the built in grinder is a great feature and very convenient with an added built in tamping system. It does take a few attempts at selecting the correct grind setting and puck dose, but the suggested setting, give or take a few turns one way or another, is generally spot on. One pull of the tamping handle and if the machine determines there isn’t enough grinds, it will signal you to add more, ie prompt you ... MoreThis is my second Breville espresso machine. One pull of the tamping handle and if the machine determines there isn’t enough grinds, it will signal you to add more, ie prompt you to grind again. I love this feature as it takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation. Again, it takes a few attempts. I am still playing with the grind and tamped grinds to reach the “espresso” setting. Still not seeing the pressure gage reach the “espresso” setting either. On another note, I have noticed a lot of water in the drip tray (more than I feel should be based on videos). The water is clean so it isn’t from the coffee filter dripping. I have to contact support still to find out why and will update this review at that time.Review continuation,After having the Breville Barista Express Impress for a few months now, I’m very comfortable and find it even easier to use than when I first purchased it. It’s quick to grind and the automatic tamping is fantastic. I am still fiddling with the espresso pressure but it’s just a matter of trial and error. So far I have not made a bad tasting coffee at all! I find the steamer wand takes a little longer to heat up than previous milk frother steam wands, but it’s a matter of maybe 20-30 seconds vs 10-15 seconds. I wish the water reservoir was larger/held more water as I find I only get about 5-6 cups of espresso and then have to refill the tank. After watching some instructional videos, I also run a single cup through with no coffee to keep the machine clean so the overflow water tray also fills up quickly. Otherwise, I love this machine.

I'm not hoity-toity when it comes to drinking coffee, I just enjoy a nice fresh cup of americano that's easy to make. This Breville espresso machine really did impress! I used to own a KitchenAid espresso maker. While it was a very good machine, it didn't come with a coffee bean grinder, so I had to buy a separate machine for grinding. Also, it was hard to get the grinds to be the correct grind size so the coffee would frequently come out too bitter or too watery, hard to get it just right. The grinds would usually be a watery mess afterwards. The Breville unit makes life SO much easier as you have a container at the top of the machine for you to pour whole beans into. With a press of a button, it automatically grinds the beans and fills the portafilter with the correct amount of coffee. Next by pressing down on the lever, you can then easily tamp the coffee with the correct pressure (with a light indicator showing you if it's enough coffee...things couldn't get any easier! If there were not enough ground coffee, you just have to press the "dose" button one more time and it automatically fills the portafilter correctly and remembers the dosage for next time. I do have a couple minor complaints. The footprint of the appliance is quite big, so it takes up a lot of precious kitchen counter space. Also, because the appliance is quite heavy, I wish the water refilling tank would be on the side of the machine, therefore making it easier to refill the tank. But because it's in the back, it makes things a bit more challenging, but these are just minor complaints. Overall, the machine feels premium, good quality materials, making the appliance feel very high end. Because it's so simple to use, it's definitely two thumbs up!

The colour is a major plus and this machine is also extremely quiet compared to my previous model the Barista Pro.This machine still lets me put my creative manual coffee skills to work without the machine doing everything.Highly recommended, takes a bit longer to heat up that the Barista Pro, but only by about 30 seconds. Worth the money if you ask me, or even the Oracle if you’re new to the coffee world and a little nervous to try something like this, however the Barista Express Impress is great to practice and apply your skills at home if your a new Barista or in Training.

This is my first espresso machine and it is a great entry point. One thing I learned it that there is quite a science to espresso if you want optimal results. The machine makes a difference but so does things like grind size, tamping, dose amount, and extraction time. There is more to it than taking it out of the box, putting in coffee, and pressing a button. I learned this in researching which machine to get so I knew what I was getting into. The Impress is a semi-automated machine that once it is 'dialed-in' only takes a few minutes to get great results each time. It does take some practice, and lots of youtube videos, if you want to get a perfect shot...or as close to it as possible. The dosing and 'assisted' tamping takes one of the variables out of the espresso making process which makes things a little easier for newbies. I still haven't mastered steaming of milk but even with my mistakes my espresso drinks still taste great. It seems to be fairly easy to keep clean which is nice and there is not a lot of maintenance. It is a nice looking machine and it seems to be well built with a lot of mental and not a lot of plastic. So it is a pretty hefty price tag but seems to hit a nice spot of price/quality/results considering machines can go from about $100 to thousands of dollars.I would recommend this machine but I would advise watching videos on dialing it in as well as how to steam milk. There isn't a ton out there on the Impress since it is pretty new but if you look for the 'Breville Barista Express' videos as well it is basically the same machine outside of the assisted 'tamping'.Happy Espresso making!
I came across this Breville machine while searching for good coffee machine for home use which is easy to operate and makes Barista style coffee. If you have similar requirements, look no further than Breville the Barista Express Impress. - Easy of set up The installation instructions are detailed and provide great insights into each equipment. I had never set up or operated a coffee machine but the instruction booklet and multiple youtube videos really helped me to understand different parts and their functions. - Ease of operation The coffee machine is easy to operate. Detaching, filling up and reattaching the water tank is easy. The hopper can store 400-500gms of coffee beans. Once we put the coffee beans, preferably roasted within last 30 days, the grinder does its work and dose is automatically calculated. Different filters are provided to ensure we can get the best tasting coffee. Once prepped the machine through initial cycles, everything seemed to be on auto mode. Dosage quantity was automatic. In built tamping takes away guesswork from the dosage calculation. - Fast The machine is fast, it doesnt take much time in heating up for grind or steam or water. We like our milk extra hot and that takes a bit of time. If you are looking for an espresso, it would be only 2 min and a long black will be ready in 3 min max. - Build Quality Build quality is really good. The most used parts like portafilter, the filters, cleaning tray, milk jug are very easy to use. - Maintenance The machine has an indicator which alerts when tray needs to be cleaned. The only area of improvement I could think was that we can use steamer and hot water outlet at once. If a novice like me can learn how to make a good coffee, a regular coffee maker at home will fall in love with this machine. Tip videos from breville NZ on youtube are really helpful.
This machine makes a great tasting barista style coffee so simple. Breville has incorporated 4 keys elements into their machines to assist in making the perfect coffee we all desire. 1. Dosage. A consistent measured dosage for either a single or double shot selection. 2. Water temp. The heat pump produces the ideal water temp of 93. 3. 9 Bar of pressure during the extraction phase , allows all the flavours to be extracted from the coffee grinds. 4. A steam wand that produces 130 steam, perfect for making the milk microfoam to top off the perfect coffee. The key feature for me is the intelligent auto dosage which provides a consistent 8-11gms single shot or 18-22gms double shot dosage and the assisted tamping mechanism, which produces a perfect 10kg of pressure with ... Once you have dialed in the correct grind setting for your preferred coffee beans, this allows the correct pressure during the extraction process, as indicated by the grey range on the pressure gauge. This machine takes all of the guess work out of the equation for those of us with no barista experience. Moderately priced and highly recommended.
This espresso machine is very light, and easy to assemble. The app video tutorial provided makes setting it up a breeze and leaves little room for doubt in the assembled product. There is the option to manually set the amount of grounds too, for those who are more savvy with their coffee. The easy to use steam wand makes milk significantly better than cream. Once I got the grind level correct, the machine makes consistently good espresso that I enjoy every morning. It is faster than going to a local coffee shop and makes better espresso! I would prefer for it to come with the mini waste basket.
LOVE THIS MACHINE! I have been using the older model (Barista Express) for years. It is fantastic. The Barista Express Impress upgrades several features that make it worth the buy. First off, this machine produces delicious espresso in a sleek and compact design, perfect for the homeowner. I know they are an investment but I think they are actually a good value compared to many options on the market when compared to the quality of the espresso you will enjoy. The hopper will store your coffee beans, grind and dose them into the portafilter with the touch of a button WITHOUT ANY SPILLING (a massive upgrade from the Barista Express). This feature cannot be emphasized enough. The lever cleanly tamps your grind and there is a sensor that lets you know if you have the ... MoreLOVE THIS MACHINE! The hopper will store your coffee beans, grind and dose them into the portafilter with the touch of a button WITHOUT ANY SPILLING (a massive upgrade from the Barista Express). This feature cannot be emphasized enough. The lever cleanly tamps your grind and there is a sensor that lets you know if you have the right dosage once tamped. Then, the machine will auto adjust the next dose in the event that you do not get the proper extraction. You have the ability to change the grind and dose manually. I find that, depending on the bean you are using, you sometimes need to tweak the grind or the amount in order to get the correct extraction. This is normal and to be expected. Not all coffee beans are the same and they do behave differently. The hot water dispenses quieter than before (awesome!) and the steam wand for making your milk silky smooth for lattes is incredible. My wife and I drink Americanos every day. We do lattes generally in the afternoon. For Americano, the amount of water you need is measured so when you select the hot water, you don't need to measure the water amount. The taste is always full bodied, rich, and smooth. The flavor is something auto-drip and pour over just cannot mimic. SOOO GOOD! Breville makes outstanding products that are thoughtfully designed. I'm a huge fan the Barista Express Impress. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
