We have had the Breville Espresso Machine since April of 2020 (COVID purchase) and it's performance is not worth the price. The first issue was pressure. The system would never get up to the "espresso pressure range" and the coffee tasted very bitter. We called customer service and sent the machine back. took about 6 weeks for the system to be fixed. The issue was resolved. The second issue involves the preset brew time. The brew time sometimes would stop when programmed and sometimes not and continue to brew requiring manual stop - this would lead to a poor brew requiring a restart and a frustrated user. I purchased this product a year ago. For the past couple decades I have been a Gaggia Classic person, and it is a fine long lasting machine though manual, so when my second one gave out I thought it time to move up to something easier to use and automatic, especially for spouse & guests - and relive me from barista duty. (note: this review is for the Touch model in Black Truffle)Frankly, it took me a while to shell out this money & deciding on which product to go with. So much so I spent several months after my old machine broke going out for my morning espresso (my spouse likes to point out that I spent more going out for espresso than this machine costs - and she is probably right as I like quad shots & sometimes twice a day, at $6 a pop it adds up, not to ... For me, the resulting temperature, crema, froth are all excellent. And the machine is uncomplicated and easy to use.I read all the reviews beforehand and frankly there is nothing to add to those other 5 star reviews. And to the 1 star reviews all I can say is I have never experienced your issues (that is heat, grind & steaming problems called out have never been an issue for me). This is not to say it's perfect, just that where it could improve does not affect the quality of the result (of course I'm hopeful it will stand the test of time, don't expect it to last as long as my old manual ones, but frankly if this lasts 6 plus years I'll be happy). And if you want to know my nitpicks:- I might not do black again. The body is fine and well made but the pull out tray is less robust and now has a couple little chips in the color.- The metal tray is thin and very easily scratches (but it is easily replaceable).- The grinder will occasionally not feed because the beans in the bottom can eventually stack in a way to block enough from feeding (easily handled as now I just stir the beans up in the hopper on refill, but I suppose where the beans feed could have more horizontal height to prevent this).- You can push the portafilter into the grinding cradle to auto start the grinding, but be aware if you do quickly/hard then the resulting position of portafilter may be off in cradle enough to cause the grind to spill over the edge (can't really blame the product, though hopefully Breville are aware most customers are still half asleep when using the machine).- It will slide under standard height mounted cabinets over countertop, though it will not for those of us that later installed under lights to existing cabinets (not a criticism, just a shout out to those considering who may have the same situation then end up with less counter space than expecting).See, I said they were nitpicks.I hope you have as much success and enjoyment as me.

My wife had been at me for a couple of years to get a coffee machine, but I was concerned it would just become another appliance collecting dust in our kitchen (plus I rarely drink coffee so it seemed quite an expensive purchase for one person). Anyway, her birthday snuck up on me and I became desperate for a gift :-) so I decided to take a closer look at coffee machines. All my research pointed to the Breville range (no, I’m not affiliated with the company in any way). I couldn’t justify the dollars for an Oracle so I looked at the Barista range. Manually tamping the ground coffee is super easy (getting the pour right only took a couple of test runs), and the auto milk frother is great. All in all, I’m very happy with my purchase. I guess my only concern is how durable the product is. There seems to be quite a bit that could go wrong. Hopefully I get 5+ years out of it.

I have always been a fan of Breville products, so when I decided to upgrade my espresso machine, I naturally opted for the Breville Touch. Little did I know that my excitement would quickly turn into sheer disappointment and frustration. The setup and initial use seemed flawless. The machine appeared well-built, with a sleek design and a user-friendly touch interface. However, only after a few months of using the machine, I was greeted with the dreaded eR05 error on the screen. At first, I thought it was a minor hiccup. So, I referred to the manual to troubleshoot the issue. After following the recommended steps, I was relieved to see the error disappear, only to have it reappear again the very next day. So, I referred to the manual to troubleshoot the issue. After following the recommended steps, I was relieved to see the error disappear, only to have it reappear again the very next day. This eR05 error was like a nightmare that wouldn't go away, and I was stuck in a constant loop of troubleshooting and trying to fix the problem.I contacted Breville customer support, hoping that they could provide a solution. They advised me to descale the machine, clean the steam wand, and ensure the water tank was properly seated. Despite following their instructions diligently, the eR05 error persisted.Feeling frustrated, I turned to online forums and discovered that many other Breville Touch users were experiencing the same issue. It became apparent that this wasn't an isolated incident but a widespread problem plaguing this model. The most infuriating part is that the machine's functionality becomes severely limited with the eR05 error. My coffee dreams were shattered, and I was left with a very expensive, fancy-looking kitchen decoration. In conclusion, I regret purchasing the Breville Touch, and I cannot recommend it to others due to the persistent eR05 error. As a long-time Breville customer, I am deeply disappointed in the brand and their apparent lack of attention to this major design flaw. I hope Breville takes these complaints seriously and addresses the issue in their future models.
Preface: I worked 10 years as a barista and was trained on a fully manual machine. I have had this machine a little over 1 month at time of writing. When I was looking to upgrade my existing drip coffee maker, I knew I wanted a semiautomatic machine with a built in grinder and steam wand. This fit what I was looking for perfectly! Easy enough for other members of the family to use, but also something that kept the art in espresso making. I found both with this machine. It's easy to use for those with no experience and I feel like I'm back in the shop with the manual aspects of the machine. I see only 2 improvements that could be made: 1. The dosing funnel should NOT fit onto the group head to prevent this issue in the first place. The fact that it can even fit on ... The fact that it can even fit on the head when it's not supposed be put there to is an issue for novice users. 2. The water tank could be a little bigger as I go though it pretty quickly in an average week.
After much research on Breville's different models as well as research on other brands, I bought this model for the automatic milk frothing, so other family members can make their own coffee while still having the option of frothing manually. The steam wand's auto-purge feature and on-screen reminder makes sure no one forgets to purge the wand. The touch screen presents a menu of drink options and allows customizing your own drinks. It's also useful for showing cleaning and descaling reminders, which is more informative than flashing lights like with Breville's screen-less models and cuts down on "family customer support" calls.I like the process of dialing in a new coffee bag, pulling your own shots with the portafilter, and even trying to learn latte art. It's become part of the coffee experience and much different from what you would get from a superautomatic machine. It sits under our kitchen cabinets, so I put a sliding mat underneath to make it easier to refill the large water tank and bean hopper. Without the mat, pulling out the rather heavy machine resulted in the drip tray sloshing water into the storage tray behind it.The pop-up roller on the higher-end Brevilles was a brilliant idea. Too bad it isn't on thisTouch.I like how it heats up in a few seconds, instead of several minutes with other brands.A minor gripe is I wished the custom brew temperature setting displayed the actual temperature in C/F like it does for milk steaming, instead of options like "High 1". However the fact that you can even easily customize the brew temperature from a touch screen is a huge plus.If Breville made a grinder-less touchscreen model with automatic milk frothing and quick heating in a compact package (Breville, here's an idea, please: "Bambino Plus Touch"), I would have gone for that and a separate grinder instead. I am still very happy with this purchase. The whole family loves this espresso maker and it gets used multiple times a day, drastically increasing our family's consumption of milk and coffee and milk-moustache-decorated smiles all around.
After 8 years, my original Barista Express expired. It was an amazing machine and I immediately started missing my nearly perfect morning cappuccino. Though I live in an urban area within a few blocks of a half dozen great coffee shops, none could beat the coffees I made at home. This Barista Touch is an upgrade of that. When I said near perfect, that's because my Barista Touch is putting out even better cappuccino than my prior machine. The steamer is brilliant and makes perfectly textured milk. The machine seems to produce better pressure (my old one may have been running weak) and that's improved my draws. Plus, the speed and automation simplifies everything allowing me to make two cups for me and my partner a breeze. The only delays are in drawing coffee and steaming milk. Now I can safely walk away prepping the next cup knowing that the step I'm ignoring will come out perfect.Oh, and an added bonus. The new machine steams the oat milk my partner prefers perfectly. I made a special recipe to add frothing and limit the temperature and boom. No brainer.
I had a Breville Barista Express BES870 for about 5 years and loved it. Decided to upgrade to the Barista Touch and I'm also very happy with it. I like the memory function for my favorite drink (latte) with the exact settings for grind size, etc. I was looking forward to the automated milk frother, but I like a "thicker" steamed milk to add to my latte (I use organic 1% from Costco). The AUTOMATED frother does a good job, but the steamed milk isn't as thick as with my old 870 machine - so I manually froth my milk, holding the TIP of the steam wand submerged, but closer to the surface. (The automated steam method keeps the tip of the steam wand very close to the bottom of the milk container.) Presto, very thick steamed milk and I LOVE IT, albeit, I have to do it ... It is a little quicker because the Touch wand is more powerful. If you like a latte that has a "creamy" feel to it, I strongly recommend you try this manual technique. I'm very happy with the new machine and my daughter loves my old one which attests to Breville's quality - very durable if you maintain them properly. Thanks Breville!!!
We're about a month into our new Touch and we're both extremely happy with the results. First it's quick, easy, and painless to tweak the default settings to create our favorite brew characteristics. For me it's an American (with grind extended to 23 seconds to optimize for my granularity and particular bean) then do an espresso shot on top of that using the same puck - I kill the brew when the output color changes - to do justice to all the goodness the beans have to offer, then add some half and half. For my wife it's a latte using her favorite flavored creamer instead of milk or cream, and while she's not mechanically inclined, she finds that the automated frothing with temperature sensing makes the process very simple, allowing her to achieve consistently ... I'm not wiping up grounds from the countertop at all, and the puck expresses much more cleanly into our countertop composting receptacle.Add that it looks great, wipes down easily, and heats up SO quickly. We're VERY pleased with the unit.
Debated spending a few hundred more to upgrade from Bambino, but the Touch is definitely worth it. The presets and ability to create individual preference coffees is a great change. Precision grind and brew plus the auto or manual frothing options welcomed! Cleaning guided instructions so much easier to follow. A little more difficult to change out beans from hopper - wish there was easier method to “clear out” Beans at grinder level when switching bean types. But patience and tweezers will work. Drip tray apparently needs to be emptied before it displays “Empty” message or water leaks from bottom of unit. I place a stainless steel tray under unit to prevent accidental water leaking over the countertop. I wish the distance from portafilter and mug tray was just a ... Your journey to a delicious cup of coffee starts with the grinder. The Barista Touch BES880BSS boasts an integrated grinder equipped with Baratza precision burrs. With an impressive 30-grind setting, you'll have the power to fine-tune your grind to perfection. Once you've dialled in the precise dose for a single or double espresso, achieving that impeccable shot is as simple as a press of a button. Mastering the microfoam. Craft velvety, beautifully textured microfoam effortlessly with the Auto MilQ feature. Tailor the milk foam level for each recipe in the customizable menu, allowing you to create the ideal microfoam for every beverage. Thanks to the clever little sensor positioned below the steam wand, the machine adeptly adjusts the steam temperature based on the milk's temperature in the jug. With the jug in place, watch as the Barista Touch froths your milk to perfection. Once the steaming is complete and the jug is removed, the wand auto-purges, ensuring it's always clean for the next use. Customisable menu.
