Once a replacement had been obtained with a pretty quick return from Sydney, and an even quicker supply from the friendly local Breville repair centre Coffee Complex, it was the work of a few minutes to put everything back together again. Coffee Complex advice was to take the screen off from time to time and give everything a good clean: sounds like going to the dental hygienist! Thanks for the great service... Show more

I use the Breville grinder with this machine. It's a perfect step-up machine for someone who loves their coffee but isn't quite ready to spend $4k. I call it "the alter" as i'm there everyday.... Brewed to Perfection: My Story with the Breville Dual Boiler

I remember the day I decided to buy my Breville Dual Boiler Espresso Machine like it was yesterday. As a coffee enthusiast, I had always dreamed of having my own espresso machine, and after months of saving, I finally made it happen. When I first used it, I was blown away by the delicious and perfectly brewed coffee it produced. I couldn't wait to experiment with different beans and brewing methods, and before long, I was impressing my friends and family with my newfound coffee-making skills. Each morning, I looked forward to making my first cup of coffee with my trusty Breville. It became a ritual that I cherished. Everything I need in an espresso machine, and more!

This machine was an upgrade for me. I’d been using the Duo Temp, which is a great machine, but I finally needed more. After salivating over this machine for over a year, I pulled the plug and ordered my shiny new Breville Dual Boiler. I’ll start by saying, I’m not a fan of machines with the bean grinder built in, I want more control over the grind, and like having a separate machine for that specific action. I also love the option to explore any grinder I choose to use with my wonderful Dual Boiler machine. At this point, I’m using the Breville Smart Grinder Pro, I love the results thus far. The Dual Boiler is everything I could have asked for in a wish list, it does it all. This machine was very well thought out. Naturally, the first big win is a dual boiler, giving me the ability to froth milk while making my espresso shots. While this may seem simple, it saves a lot of time. I oftentimes find myself making 4-5 drinks for my daughter’s friends. With the ability to steam milk and make shots at the same time, I’m serving drinks as fast as any barista could. Also, I love that my milk steaming is now controlled with the wand on the right side of the machine, it feels very nice, and yields great results. The milk steams twice as fast as my old machine, its amazing! This is also major, since its speeds up the process when making multiple drinks. I love that I can add water from the front of the machine, I also love the hot water dispenser, my old machine had this, but the water came from the milk steam wand, and it was not as fast or effective. The Dual Boiler has a hot water dial on the left side of the machine, and it works great and fast. The water dispenser is also larger, so you need not add water as often. Speaking or larger, I must mention the drip tray is much larger than what I’m used to, so you don’t need to dump water after every couple drinks. This also works well when flush my filters since I have more room in the drop tray. There a preset button for one or two shots, but you can use the manual feature which is what I use. I have not yet gotten into the advanced settings since I’ve had the machine for only a couple weeks, but I can honestly say this is the most fun I’ve ever had with coffee. I am creating incredible tasting beverages with ease in my home with this machine. I believe that to produce great results, you must have great tools, this machine is everything I could wish for. This is a great product. It's really good for those who want to control the whole process from grinding to expresso. If you have a Breville grinder, then you have the best combination. We already had the grinder. This goes well in combination if you don't want the combined grinder and machine. Quick to heat and really does a good job. It does take a bit of getting used to if you've never used one before, but that's not a major problem. Pay attention to your grind quantity. If you want 2 shots, it can be a good thing to grind them one at a time and tamp each one down prior to brewing. Aim for 7 to 9 bar on the gauge. The steam wand works a treat but takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it. Once you do, you will be happy with the results. In the box, it was well ... MoreThis is a great product. I am very pleased with the purchase. But I'm still a coffee snob!... Show more

First, I am very happy with the quality of espresso and the level of control this machine offers me. I upgraded from my 5 year old Breville Barista Express (lovely machine which is outstanding in its price segment). I absolutely love the Dual Boiler (even though our household only drinks black coffee, so steaming is used for guests only and very occasionally). I contacted Breville, and the warranty repair process was wonderful. Breville sent me a new box with packaging material and pre-paid label, so it was easy to return. We bought our first BES920XL Dual Boiler in January 2016. It took a little time to figure out that the coffee grinder we had would not grind the coffee fine enough to make this unit do a 9 bar shot. So, we got the Breville "Smart Grinder Pro". This turned out to be the perfect combination. I used this machine every day for 5 years, with way more than 400 shots per year. I loved that it would wake itself up, and be ready for my morning coffee. I basically do either an Americano or a latte (or two) every morning. To be able to steam your "milk" and extract your shots at the same time was and is awesome. After the 3rd year, the steam valve on the wand started leaking, with no way to shut it off. To be able to steam your "milk" and extract your shots at the same time was and is awesome. After the 3rd year, the steam valve on the wand started leaking, with no way to shut it off. So, I had to get used to turning the machine off after making whatever coffees I was doing, and bleed the system down. Then, after 4 1/2 years it developed some internal steam leaks. These appear to be in how the internal connections were designed. (My machine was way out of warranty; so, yeah, I took it apart!) All the tubing, which is mostly high temp plastic, has tubing collars that have a pressure held silicon "O" ring; and a little clip that holds the tubing connection into place. This all works fine...until the tubing collar and "O" ring get enough wear on them; and then they won't be held by pressure any more. This causes a lot of steam leaks inside the machine and condensation to build up....which eventually started tripping the GCFI circuits in my kitchen. It was clear, that my unit was not going to perform safely anymore. So, I started researching new machines. I came to the conclusion, after considerable research, that I was not going to find another "home" machine of this quality without spending a small fortune. So, I had had a machine that served me well for 5 years without needing repairs; and did exactly what I wanted and needed it to do. I then discovered that these units are very hard to come by. (Noooooooo!) I even heard that Breville had quit making them! (Again....Noooooooooo!) Well, low and behold, I found one at a well revered coffee equipment retailer and had my new "Dual Boiler" (Yayyyyy!) As a caveat, I am having a bit of difficulty in doing the same process as I have done for 5 years to maintain a 9 BAR+/- shot. Using same coffees, same grind, etc. as I have previously done is not resulting in the maintaining of pressures with this new machine. It builds to the optimum pressure, but then appears to bleed off down to around 5 BAR......? Still trying to figure that out. Any help from Breville tech would be appreciated!... Show more

Makes a very good coffee. I like the ability to vary the steam temperature.

I bought this machine in June 2019. Our friends really like our coffee made with this machine BES920. It has served us well until recently, when the single cup filter started getting stuck when the group head was removed. I replaced the grouphead seal, inner and and outer shower screens , and the grouphead wire spring. The seal was worn and had some damage, but the inner shower screen had a large crack and 3 finer cracks from the centre Allen screw, which caused the single filter cup to get stuck. (Zoom in on photo.) It was easy to remove and replace these parts. The Allen key to remove the parts came with the new machine. I have written this report because I could not find out why the single filter got stuck until the machine cooled down and fell out. I should have ... MoreI bought this machine in June 2019.
