So I bought an accurate set of digital weighing scales then tried again, and again and again with no reasonable results.Eventually I went to my local coffee roaster for advice - they suggested the 'dose' setting was wrong. I noted that the factory set was 24g, so I reduced this to 18g as per advice and used a double basket (as advised) I tried again, and again and again... still too strong.I am now becoming very tired of throwing expensive coffee in the bin as I am sure you can understand.I am a patient man but this is becoming far too fiddly just for a cup of coffee. The grind setting, the dose setting, the water quantity etc etc etc. I now find myself seriously considering the sale of my Sage Oracle and going back to my pod machine as all this grief and wasted money is just not worth it.So far I have bought a couple of highly recommended coffee bean canisters, weighing scales, numerous 250g bags of speciality coffee beans all to no avail.Would I recommend one - NO.Would I buy it again - NO.Coffee pod machines are easy to use and you get the same good cup every time. Why bother with something this expensive only to be frustrated by reems of incorrect advice.

It has this really nifty little button under the drip tray which when you turn it sets down some wheels so you can glide the machine around and get to the back if you need to remove the water tank. This is only for cleaning purposes as there is a touch sensitive flap at the front which enables you to top up the water easily. The machine is quite heavy and large. I wouldn't be able to tuck it under a kitchen wall cupboard (see photo for scale) so you need to be mindful of this. However, it looks extremely stylish and is a big hit with my friends when they pop around for coffee. Due to the price this is a considered purchase but I'm glad I chose it.

This is our third coffee machine, all have been quite spendy. The first one was good but the second one was not. So I just gave up drinking coffee at home for a few years. But when my almond flat white edged up to $6 I decided it was time for a new machine. I'm very fussy about my coffee and will happily admit to being a coffee snob. I'd had a cup made by my friend who has the same machine and I could not believe how like a proper barrister made coffee it was (she isn't a barrister, just a coffee lover like me) We bit the bullet and purchased this piece of gold. I make my coffee at home now every day, sometimes I even have two. My husband sometimes has 4, he's a long black drinker. We just couldn't be happier with our new purchase.

(the single boiler machines I was looking at were mostly <1 minute!)- Auto on feature is across the entire week, there is no weekday option - it also turns off again after only 20 minutes (max)- Breville suggest replacing filter every 3 months (which is an additional consumable cost)- Mug clearance isn't enough to easily fit my mugs.Would I buy again?Definitely!I would potentially look more closely at the Oracle Jet, which on paper addresses some of my concerns above, but for price to performance, I don't feel like I could beat this machine.

Great coffee at home

Six weeks in, the Oracle doesn't disappoint. If you prefer a fully auto machine, you might look at the Oracle Touch. For me, I get the "I am the Barista" feeling and experience. The auto tamp is a good feature and takes the guesswork out of the pressure. Another great feature is the wheel that helps movement across the worktop, great for cleaning, as this is a heavy machine. The large water tank is accessible from the front which is another feature I like. The auto start avoids the need to wait for heating, as this machine operates at 93 degrees. Steam wand can be auto or manual, and foam level is fully adjustable, along with water temperature. Sage will answer your questions, and I did a Sage Masterclass to pick up some tips and tricks. I have found general maintenance reasonably easy, but you must follow the instructions. I live in hard water area so I am aware that build up is possible if I don't do the maintenance regularly. Experiment with different coffees. I signed up for a Beanz subscription which will help me to find the right coffee for every occasion. My gift in my second photo is amazing, along with the tools that came with the Oracle, the gift set is a complete set of cups for showman coffee. Mornings are transformed for me and my husband, as even if we both are going to work, that coffee time is an integral and important part of our day.

Prosumer price machine for a coffee pod machine quality of drinks.

I wanted a coffee machine that would make a good coffee in the morning without too much faffing around. The Oracle seemed to have enough automatisation to fit the bill so I purchased it from Amazon. Unfortunately, after consistently getting inconsistent results going by Sage's recommendations like using specialty coffee beans from reputable roasters, I decided I was actually wasting more time trying to dial-in a semi-automatic machine than doing it myself on a fully manual dual boiler prosumer espresso machine from a traditional italian brand for the same money.I discovered that espresso coffee puck preparation is actually quite relaxing and having control over all the variables of espresso making yields much better results. The Oracle's strongest selling point is ... MoreI wanted a coffee machine that would make a good coffee in the morning without too much faffing around. The Oracle seemed to have enough automatisation to fit the bill so I purchased it from Amazon. The grinder is sub-par compared to dedicated grinders and this is having the biggest impact in the quality of your cup. Inconsistent grinding leads to inconsistent dosing (19g to 23g in my experience) which leads to inconsiatent tamping which leads to channeling during extraction and a poor result in your cup.The automatic steamer is another letdown. It's not producing the wet paint consistency of the milk required for any attempt at latte art. The manual steam function is not producing better results becauae it can't create a strong enough vortex in your milk jug due to the steam wand being designed for automation. If you combine the bad espresso with the badly steamed milk the result is a surprisingly half-decent drink but why would anyone pay so much money for an average drink at best?I returned my Oracle back to Amazon for a full refund.

This is my second Oracle. I bought my first one almost 6 years ago and it’s largely worked without a hitch. There were a couple of minor glitches over the years but an easy on-line search for a factory reset and it was back to working fine. Then I started to have some issues with the grinder. None of the suggested fixes worked so I checked on-line to see what the expected life of an Oracle might be, and I found that I was right in the middle of that range. So, I bought my second one. I plan to take the first one in for repair and, if that solves the problem, will keep it as a backup or gift it to a family member. Why the Oracle? I wish I had just bought the Dual Boiler instead for half the price. If you have no barista skills this machine is just okay. $2000 and just okay. Any manual steaming of milk is almost impossible. The Auto steam feature does not create microform good enough for latte art. If you use alternative milks forget it. As the steam wand only points in two fixed positions, it is almost impossible to manually steam the milk. Breville could have made the steam wand move freely, just like on the Dual boiler but sadly the have created a dud machine with the Oracle. The only good feature is the inbuilt grind and tamp feature. Anyone with any barista skills will be disappointed with this overpriced, and underwhelming machine.

This purchase was a bit of an impulse to say the least. My wife and I were taking a break in Costa and just thought, how much cheaper would this be if we could do it at home? At the time, I hadn't realised how pricey a decent machine is, nor the beans, or how much of a hit and miss it is finding the mix that best suits one's taste. That said, this is a nice machine that makes great coffee proving the best doesn't come cheap! Watch the price of the consumables and accessories though. The Sage branded water filters, descalers and cleaners are ridiculously expensive for what seems to be no real justification. Shop around, equally good alternatives can be bought for 25% - 30% of the Sage price. Finally, there are some great instructional videos available on line. Shop around, equally good alternatives can be bought for 25% - 30% of the Sage price. Finally, there are some great instructional videos available on line. We found them invaluable aids to making that first really great cup of coffee. My advice, if you like good coffee and are blessed with patience, this machine is a great buy. You wont be disappointed.
