This was my 26th set I built but the first in this price range. I started with a Speed Champion set and worked me up the ladder to be now on this level. When I opened the package I was impressed of the box itself and removed it very carefully from the packaging and opened it also extremely careful to not damage it. Everything in this set is different to the regular sets. The build experience and the fun to build it, see it growing was unbeatable. I won’t miss any minute of the build. The details are amazing, from the gear box through the steering, suspension, door and hoods. It was very soon obvious that this price range is not at all flimsy as the cheaper Technic sets. And the final result confirmed it. Awesome for displaying, all the function work as intended, the instructions are simple and easy to follow, the price is expensive and the sleek exterior is an amazing representation of the true vehicle. This set is an impressive set that looks amazing and is easy to display on any shelf. I have collected all the cars in this series save the first, I wish I had it because of the imposing look of all of them together. This set in particular is a beautiful design perfect for display. The only problem for displaying it is finding the right shelf! It’s so big that there is a challenge in finding a shelf big enough to hold it. It’s functions make it a model that has many depths. The gearbox is truly impressive and I love how it’s controlled from inside the car. This might not be the favourite feature for many builders as it makes the build slightly challenging and diminishes the playability. However with the ability to take the roof off it makes it well worth it. This model has incredible features that represent the car perfectly. I do wish however that the book did come with this set. It would look amazing next to it. As someone who has collected technic sets for years now, this set is one of my favourites, the instructions were simple and easy to follow, like all other sets, and they showed what to do very clearly. I had no trouble while building. While the price is a little hard to wrap your head around it is well worth it. Whether your buying this set for its pieces or for the set itself it is amazing! It has many uncommon pieces and is amazing to build. I do wish the price was lower but it’s still worth it. The exterior itself is almost better than the functions, (but not quite). That really says something about this sets look. The doors are seamless and smooth, the hood of the car blends in and the overall look is wowing. This set is worth the money and I one hundred percent recommend it if you can afford it.

Another excellent product from the Technic team at Lego. This curvaceous Ferrari model is beautifully realised using the various Lego parts. The instructions books are informative, and generally easy to follow. It is a challenging build though. The only reason for giving it four stars rather than five is that I think this model will be quite difficult to take apart. I believe a Lego kit should be able to be rebuilt again and again. Some of the parts used here will be extremely difficult to take apart. But aside from that it's a great product.

This is easily the most difficult Lego build I've ever done. So many of the steps are prone to connecting dangly bits in fiddly ways, much moreso than any of the other technic supercars. Most of that is in service of the flowing bodylines of the completed model, and thankfully it does come together in a very satisfying way. The rear fender bulges especially feel organic in a way that is difficult to achieve in technic. The gearbox and rear-wheel-drivetrain were also fun to put together, with a new differential assembly that's got slightly more friction than the old gearing (so the wheels are more eager to turn together when the car is lifted up). The ability to easily re-align the steering is a nice touch, as are all of the printed elements. All that being said, I ... MoreThis is easily the most difficult Lego build I've ever done. The ability to easily re-align the steering is a nice touch, as are all of the printed elements. All that being said, I don't think this is the Technic supercar you should buy if you are looking to get your first. Both the Lambo and the Chiron have all-wheel-drivetrains, which make the front end significantly more interesting to assemble. They're also somewhat less, hmm, creative, with bodywork assembly, which means the car feels more stable while building and comes together in a much more intuitive way. The Lamborghini's gearbox assembly is also nicely exposed on the bottom in a way that makes it easy to see what the shifts are doing. Finally, it feels like a step backward in certain ways. The top is removable, but not storable in the front trunk like the Porsche Targa. The doors open based on switches like the Lambo, butthey only lift up about 45 degrees, and the switches themselves are hidden under the rear bodywork and the action to press them without assisting the door up is so difficult that it disconnected an internal mechanism the first time I tried to use it on the assembled model (why are all of the pegs friction pegs? i may order some loose pegs and change it as an experiment). That rear bodywork that lifts up does so using somewhat iffy supports, while the front trunk uses an honest to goodness prop (!). And there's no fitted luggage to go in the larger-than-average-but-not-large-enough-for-the-top front trunk. But hey, it looks good on a shelf next to the Chiron and the Sian, so it's worth it if that's your situation.
Like others here i have done many of the large vehicle sets over the years. The Chiron is still by far the yard stick other sets must be compared against! This Daytona is utter trash in comparison and I really feel sorry for anyone for whom this is their large race experience of the big sets.Unlike most sets this one has huge swathes of just clipping bits together for no obvious reason. The normal magic of seeing the mechanics interpreted in miniature is just totally missing. If I want to clip pieces for hours I’d do creator. The set is also generally flimsy due to the design. Just holding it in the middle and it sags at either end. This flexibility was a pain during build and rather spoils the appearance.Much is made in the manuals of matching the lines of the Daytona but all I see are huge gaps where the shaky chassis ruins the intent. I would also say that with the real model in front of me much effort was gone to take flattering angles of images for the promo materials.I did not have a huge number of missing pieces and could replace most small connectors etc from pieces collected over the years but what a joke to have to do so. The manual I have is littered with mistakes as well and for the first time ever I had to use the online instructions as a check whenever the steps simply made no sense.Such an expensive set but also truly the worst. Most of the big cars I have out on display but this one is going in the attic to be forgotten. Lego please don’t release half baked sets like this for your premium customers. They will quickly become ex customers.
I received this as a gift and was utterly thrilled. That was the high point, having the unopened box.Not being a huge Technic fan, the SP3 did nothing to change my mind. The gear box had me excited and expecting great things. Complicated and sturdy. The completed car is delicate, and there is a huge amount of flex in the chassis. It is either too big, or not sufficiently structured. I can't help but feel the model was very carefully manipulated for the pictures.Anyhow, it's built now. Once my fingers recover - and I have the next bout of spare time - it'll be dismantled and the parts used for something else. Anything else!If I owned a real SP3, it might have stayed together in the garage. But alas, no real Ferrari in the garage!
I just turned 50 and recently survived life-threatening issues. While I was resting up, I went back to my roots and started building Lego sets. My family noticed, (*haha* I told them) and for the holidays they bought me a bunch of really nice sets including this one. I really love the attention to detail, including the packaging. It comes in a drop-cover box with 3 slide-out inserts, the first of which contains 2 massive manuals which are full of information about the development of the Daytona and its model (I especially love that the wheels were custom designed and made to exactly resemble the original). The guide is very comprehensive, to the point where I question the "18 " note, but not enough to not understand that it's extrememly detailed. The guide is very comprehensive, to the point where I question the "18 " note, but not enough to not understand that it's extrememly detailed. The fact that the engine is functional isn't new to me, seeing as my first "major" build was the 8860, but this is a new level of awesomeness. It's a V12 double-clutch at the core of this beast. My only gripe on these large builds is the lack of "glass".
I have learned to appreciate these sets since the orange Porsche 911 GT3. I like the technicalities and the working mechanical components that came with the set. I experienced a couple of things, with regards to packaging, and pieces, to be more specific, during the build that I did not observe with the other previous three (i.e., Porsche, Bugatti, and Lamborghini). The issues had to do with the instructions and the location of the pieces where I had to go against what was indicated since, I believe, it was instructing incorrectly. Additionally, I had to go to other out of number bags (i.e., Bag 4 pieces found in Bag 3) to find pieces as indicated in the instruction.First, the Pros:- As with the other similar sized kits, in the same category as this one, the ... MoreI have learned to appreciate these sets since the orange Porsche 911 GT3. Additionally, I had to go to other out of number bags (i.e., Bag 4 pieces found in Bag 3) to find pieces as indicated in the instruction.First, the Pros:- As with the other similar sized kits, in the same category as this one, the build is quite extensive and, if you're a Lego hobbyist, it is one that is severely enjoyable.- There is a great similarity, to the actual life-size vehicle.- As an auto enthusiast, I love the size of the wheels and tires.- Real, working doors (again, just like in the real vehicle) is a plus, but.... (more on this in the Cons section below).- Functioning engine and gearbox.- I realize and understand, the red paint is standard for Ferrari vehicles but it looks great on this set.- This particular set likely has the best shock absorbing part and assembly out of all the other similar kits before it.Now, and unfortunately, the Cons:- While they include a hood strut for the front baggage trunk, the engine cover/hood (not sure what it's called since the engine is in the rear) would have worked better having one as well. The front hood or baggage trunk don't necessarily need one but, and more importantly, the rear hood is more deserving of one because it tends to close on its own every now and then when opened and when the lift support mechanisms are not engaged fully or correctly.- The doors, as the other similar kits before it, could have been built better. The mechanism works well but it is just a bit flimsy and feels as though the entire assembly may just fall off when opening and closing the doors. Additionally, the top portion of both doors, where the glass windows would have been if it was in real life, have a huge hole in it. The hole could have really used some covering but it is just left opened with the internal parts easily seen through it.- While I do love the wheels and tires, (and this is a same complaint I have with the other similar kits), the turning radius is atrocious. Granted this is not a set one would really play with but it is really horrible at turning. I get that the tires have to be of a certain width, but they really should take that into consideration to make sure there is ample space for them to turn. Also, there is no engine in the front so there should be enough space for the wheels to turn in or out.- Lastly, where's the bag? All the other similar kits before it came with a bag and all of a sudden, this one has none?Overall, and while I do have a few "did-not-likes" with the set, it is still a good addition and displays well with the others. Would I recommend it? I can, only to those that really are keen on collecting each and every one of these that they release. If you're in the market for one of these, I would suggest the Porsche or the Bugatti, even the Lamborghini before it as well.
I received this as a gift, and I wish I had not because it has been a frustrating build! This is to be taken with a grain of salt because this is the first Technic I've built, but it is truly frustrating. I did not get a delightful experience out of this, considering the vagueness of some fundamental instructions alongside pieces occasionally missing. I had seen two other reviews where people said they had pieces missing, which I believe. Thankfully, it was just small pieces I could replace with extras from previous bags. I think the instructions were the main issue with this piece causing it to be so difficult to build, but it is pretty to look at.
