Picked up my new Bedford 8 speed a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. Solidly built, comfortable, quick, light - an ideal commuter bike for NYC. Easy to carry up and down stairs with a comfortable saddle for 10+ mile rides. Definitely recommend.

I won this beaut from a local liquor distributor and it's so amazing!! I'm more of a long board type guy and spend my time on mostly that, electric and accustic but I can't stay off this thing!! Probably 50 miles this week!! I've even tackled some monster hills and still showed up looking almost as clean as the bike 😎

I've been riding this kind of city bike for 20 years (Toronto and other places) and this bike is excellent. I like steel frames for the bit of butter you get in the ride, but this one has a smoother ride than others I've had. (And still have). I think it might be the frame geometry. It has a bit longer wheel base than my other bikes, and I think that may be what has improved ride quality. I have a similar bike in Toronto but with a 7 speed Shimano internal hub, and I wasn't sure if 3 speeds would be enough. But it is! In fact I wouldn't want more. One other reviewer said he put a smaller cog on the back to change the gear ratio. Another thing I appreciate about the bike is the comfortable seat and grips. I was thinking of doing a Brooks saddle, but not sure that will be necessary. Also the grips are great - vegan leather? i think that means fake leather, but it's really good fake leather. The grips have a little cushioning underneath which really makes them comfortable. The twist shifter is great too - very smart for quick shifting in the city to get out of somebodies way. This is a well thought out bike and great value. I only wish there had been a black one available. I was impatient so went with the white one in stock at the showroom in Brooklyn (which was an enjoyable visit in itself). But the ivory colour is growing on me... Anyway, exceeds expectations on all levels. Thank you.

So I bought a few Chub Rub shorts from Snag Tights, settled on the Bedford 7, and now am happily zipping around town on my Brooklyn Bike. The gear shifting is smooth and intuitive and just enough gears to get around town quickly and tackle hills. This bike is lightweight and manageable, the breaks feel very responsive and trustworthy. One of the best things was getting my new bike right before I got married this summer--my husband and I planned our honeymoon without a rental car, but took our bikes on the train to Oregon, then loaded up ourselves and our luggage on our bikes (I also got the rear rack with this in mind), and rode about 3 miles down the hilly coast line to our vacation rental. We used our bikes as our exclusive mode of transportation during our stay on the coast. I've never done something like that, but I had the time of my life and felt so capable on my bike. We had a magical trip and want to do it again. And my bike is now my preferred method of transportation at home in Montana. Plus, it's so handsome...
My wife bought me this bike for my birthday and it is a lightweight, fast, very agile bicycle! It is the perfect city bike and yet equally at home on paved paths in parks and natural preserves. You guys make an excellent bicycle!
This is the first new bike I have owned in 30 years. I have always had used bikes because new ones don't last long in NYC. It is light and uncomplicated making it easy to carry up the stairs and into my destinations. Because it is stylish and classic nobody minds. Once I've had it a few years and it has garnered an urban patina then I will lock it on the streets. But not overnight. Never overnight. It's fast. The protected bike infrastructure in NYC has improved. I use it to travel much further than I ever did before. I often go weeks without using the subway. (Which continues to get worse, not to mention that one can catch a deadly disease). It is well constructed. It is dependable. I smile whenever I see it. My Bedford bike is my new friend. I highly recommend it.
Nice bike, but the sizing was in between on the size chart and I wanted to exchange for a smaller frame. There is no option other than a $200 restocking fee, a third the price of the bike. I can understand a hefty fee for a full return, but there should be options for a size exchange in partnership with some of their partnered bike shops. Disappointing. It is clearly stated on their website in retrospect, but not something I anticipated.
I'm really enjoying the bike, it's comfortable and fun to ride, not to mention the great looks. Having the simplicity of just the three gears is perfect, although I found after a few weeks I was spending nearly all my time in top gear. The default gear configuration is 42 teeth on the crank, 20 on the rear sprocket. I found, at least for the mostly flat area I ride in, this was too low, so I purchased a 18t rear sprocket, which gives you just a little bit higher ratios across the board. I think I would also even be comfortable going as far as 42/16. At 42/18 now I spend most of the time in 2nd gear, pop up to 3rd for top speed, and still only very rarely down to 1st for the steepest of hills. Anyway -- just my thoughts, I love the bike even more at 42/18! Thanks.
I had previously left a review on my bike, but I wanted to add some further detail now that I've had it for a few months and have broken it in. Right off the bat, I can say that this is one of the best purchases I've made. The saddle can be stiff initially, but that's to be expected. Now that it's got some mileage on it, it's pretty soft and comfortable. It handles really well, and the brakes are great. There is very little maintenance that has to be done, just basic stuff like checking tire pressure once in a while. I'll find myself taking a quick ride after work, but having so much fun that I just keep going. It may only be a 3-speed, but to be honest that's more than enough for me.
