Considering you get an auto document feeder, wifi, print, copy, scan and fax, this is a lot for one machine, not that I use the fax functionality. The printer has so far worked well and if my experience with other Brother products is anything to go by, this should just work like a donkey (if perhaps a little clunkily compared to other more gimmicky products) for years to come. For me the print quality and speed is absolutely fine, who honestly cares about print speed unless they're on the Apprentice or something with Alan Sugar breathing down their neck for a printed sales report? Just put the kettle on.The wifi and remote printing Android app work fine, though it did take a few goes for the printer to find the wifi network, but once working, printing from a phone or Windows 10 machine via wifi works well as does old school wired printing. There are however a coulple of annoying points about this printer, the first is that the rear document feeder is a bit of a fussy prima donna and often throws a hissy fit if you're feeding, say, labels or a different quality of paper from standard into its rear entry port. Unless you get said paper exactly lined up and fed correctly it will tell you to remove it and start again. I have learned to push the paper in until I feel a little judder as the roller grips said paper, this usually helps but not always. If you tend to do a lot of rear entry you may want to consider other options, though of course it could just be a peculiarity of my particular model and anyway it's fine for occasional rear entry, ooh err.Another thing which initally made me almost return the printer is that after powering down from the power button on the printer itself, if you then swtich it off from the wall socket and later turn the wall socket on again, the printer will turn itself on and off again. This was annoying for me since the printer shared a wall socket with other devices that I turned off at the mains and when turning them on again the printer would make a noise starting and stopping, annoying as the printer is in a bedroom.I contacted support and eventually discovered that when you power the printer off, it isn't actually off and so they recommend you keep the printer powered from the mains at all times (it's fine to turn it off from the printer power button). The reason for this is that the printer from time to time moistens its print heads or something when they dry out and it does this even if switched off. If you don't allow it to do this (by unplugging it), then when it is switched on it will use much more ink while it first unblocks the print heads. There seems to be nothing in the printer documentation about this. So now I have the printer pluggin into its own always on socket and it's happy.Another slightly annoying thing is that you have to press two buttons to turn it off, one to turn it off and one to confirm that you will lose any "fax data", despite it not even being plugged into a phone line. Hey ho, it's an extra step but you can actually set the printer to turn itself off (this is the delault setting), which it will do after a user-configurable time, in which case you don't have to worry about the extra confirmation step. The only other slight concern is the woefully high cost of printer ink for this machine. As we know printer ink is more expensive than gold or something, well this one is probably more expensive than diamonds. However so far it seems to use very little ink and so the cartridges that came with the printer will likely last a long time and you can also buy bigger cartridges which will probably last forever, or longer. All in all I am quite pleased with this printer and would recommend it to anyone, certainly the casual home user.

Great machine. I am not particularly quick in setting machines up but managed to set this up wifi to my iMac without too many problems after following the instructions from Brother on the internet as advised. I am pleased with the quickness of the print and the quality. No more standing around waiting ages for something to be printed. One of the reasons I chose this model was because of the number of pages it can print from the ink cartridges. My last machine not Brother used to eat the ink and was costing a fortune. Buttons on the front of the machine are self explanatory and the machine switches itself off in-between use and I like the paper tray which stores the paper without it being on show. Highly recommend this machine.

The printer has only just arrived. It looks good and functions well. It is definitely an improvement over my HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 whose printheads decided to fail after only 7 years. However, there are some niggles about the information given by John Lewis about this printer.Firstly, it was not clear that there is no ethernet port. It is advertised as a wireless printer, but it is only a wireless printer. As it came without a USB cable, the wireless function had to be set up manually rather than through an ethernet port. This turned out to take me the best part of two hours grappling with the keyboard input on the machine and a variety of passwords. Eventually I got it going but was not pleased. This turned out to take me the best part of two hours grappling with the keyboard input on the machine and a variety of passwords. Eventually I got it going but was not pleased. It is necessary to download the software from Brother's website to do it more easily. Once obtained, the software looks very good in managing printer and scanning, and definitely better than using just the Windows 10 drivers.Secondly, it is not clear from the information that the printer comes with the necessary print cartridges in the box. It recommends you buy a set but does not say this is not necessary. Without that information I ordered the set of cartridges at £64.99.John Lewis customer services were, as usual, very good and immediately accepted the return of the cartridges. So I am grateful that I've bought from John Lewis. I have been a customer of theirs for some decades, and they have always provided excellent service. It's just that the main information they provide with this product should be a little fuller.
Bought this as its is small enough to fit on desk and yet has all the features I need including scanning and double sided printing. Easy to set up and connected to my iMac easily as well as other computer and iPhone. It has a fax facility but that isn't required but might be useful one day. The screen on the printer is a little small but once set up that is hardly required although it is easy to use. It replaced an old large printer (another make) which conked out after years of faithful service but I couldn't find any other printer with these small dimensions and features. Although web site said delivery would be up to 14 days it arrived next day after ordering.
I bought this for myself having not had a working printer for a number of years. Because I was buying it for myself I thought I'd splash out a bit extra. I love it. It was incredibly easy to set up ... even without the instructions (which I later found inside the machine!). I managed to download the driver to my laptop, attach it to my phone and to the house WiFi. It was incredibly easy to do and I impressed myself and my friends lol. Very happy with it!
This printer was more expensive than we intended to pay for a printer but we're very glad we went with this one. It is Brother's Mini Office range so you get print, scan, copy and fax. It takes loads of paper and comes with enough ink to get 3000 mono and 1500 colour sheets. It also has many other features for it's size which is a lovely compact unit for home
Ordered on Wednesday, delivered Thursday. Well done JL. Comes with inks and, according to the settings, have 1000 pages of colour and 2000 pages for the black cartridge. Which is probably a good thing as replacement inks aren't cheap. Just follow the instructions and installation is relatively straightforward. Btw before you place it in its operational place make a note of the printer password on the back as there is a routine forever asking you if you want to change it and you'll need this to proceed. It does a test print and an alignment print and, for whatever reason, asks you to scan the alignment print. I'll find out in time what that's all about. The prints are crisp, it's quiet and it works as you'd expect. I have bought Brothers for many years. My last machine was lost in the the Feb 2022 Catastrophic Floods of Lismore, NSW. Itself a v good printer on normal cartridges. The model before this one.The Investment Tank system is superb and gives you the lowest cost per page. Also superb print quality.Dr M E (Mel) Henderson (Retired Uni Lecturer/Grandad)
I've only had the device for a few weeks but so far it has impressed, and certainly suggests very good value for money. Quickly delivered by John Lewis too.The only slight niggle (and this was also mentioned by another reviewer) is that the paper drawer is a little flimsy. However, it has a drawer and this wasn't enough for me to downgrade my rating.Claiming the £30 cashback has been something of a trial of patience but this is an aside. The device is very good indeed.
