I returned the first one because one of the detectors broke.The replacement article broke the same way. I didn’t bother returning.You can’t rely on the pH reading, inaccurate.The switch you move to check pH, light has jammed.

Garbage. Gives wildly different pH readings in the same dirt. Thinks bicarb solution is acidic. Bunnings should be ashamed of themselves for selling something so obviously incapable. Use a pH kit with indicator for a trustworthy result.

I bought this product 2 weeks ago especially to check soil moisture of my gardenias, dipladenias and passionfruit vine which are in 3 separate garden beds. The meter gave what I believe to the correct readings so for that reason alone I am satisfied with the purchase. However the ph readings are incorrect -I got the same high Alkaline reading no matter where I tested; even testing vinegar! Thankfully I have a Soil ph Test Kit.

This is my first soil meter purchase, but it looks like it does what it says. I use it to check on my peperomia plants that are currently in pots with no drainage, so it's extra important to ensure I don't overwater them. If you just need a simple soil meter reader this does the job.
The ph meter gave incorrect reading for alkaline substances such as baking powder, dishwashing liquid and garden lime. It showed reading below 6 instead of above 7. Other functions seemed to work i.e moist and light.
Purchased two days ago. Used 5 times. Already broken the very flimsy aluminium probe. The copper probe still perfectly straight. We have had a very wet year so I purchased meter as I was concerned about soil being too wet, not too dry! So it is not as if I was trying to jam it into hard turf. Probably a good buy if all you want to do is test pot plants. But if doing outdoor garden or lawns then I recommend avoiding this and going for a better made product.
USELESS FOR PH SOIL TESTING
This pH meter works well when the directions are followed - "Wet the soil with water to a muddy consistency". Just pushing it into dry or moist soil will not give you a good reading. Some comments have said that it just sits on 7. The best way to check if your meter is working is to put some vinegar in a glass and check it with your meter. Vinegar has a pH of 2.5 so the meter should go all or most of the way to the right.

Between my 7 house plants, it gave different readings (all were varying degrees of moist or slightly dry) and they all changed to being more on the moist/wet side as I watered my plants.pH reader works too. I know lots of other reviews complained about theirs not reading pH but mine works fine. Tested it in vinegar (as other reviewers have done) and it read about a 3.5 which is the lowest it can go (you need to cover about 5cm worth of the prongs to get an accurate reading). Then tested it in my plant pots and they're all about 7-8 (as they should be) and varied only slightly between the different plant species/soil types.Light meter also works great. Also clean the prongs between uses/pots. Your readings won't be accurate if you leave the prongs dirty/wet.
moisture is far easier to tell with your finger. poke a hole, is it damp or dry?pH is not at all accurate or easy to read. use a liquid soil pH test kit if you want accuracy (I have one, it's brilliant)light.. maybe use your eyes? it's either in the sun or in the shade.I wasted my money. don't waste yours too.
