Yard Guard Bug Vac Flying Insect Trapper
Bug Vac attracts flying insects by a optical reflected BL-UV Lamp into a water filled tray by way of an inbuilt fan. A few drops of detergent in the water breaks the surface tension and allows the insects to get stuck and drown. Fully weatherproof for permanent outdoor installation.

We purchased this around November 2019 hoping to clear midgies in time for Christmas. We had tried all sorts of things including a fogging blower that cost hundreds. This zapper for under $90 has done the job and there's only been the occasional midgie since. We are very pleased with it and the only thing is that all types of bugs are killed so even the nice ones. You do need to empty the tray around every 2nd day, 1/2 fill with water and a bit of detergent. Bugs are attracted to the light, drop into the water and drown.

Catches a massive amount of mozzies if used with an attractant. The product packaging probably constitutes false and misleading advertising, only when you open the product and read the instructions do you discover you need an attractant/lure for mozzies. The instructions steer you to buying their lures, though a quick google reveals sugar water/lemonade works well, and it sure does for me.The fan in mine is super noisy. The open frame motor’s sleeve bearings are utter junk, rotate the bug catcher till the fan motor shaft is vertical, close to silent. I’ll be modifying mine to add a quality fan to it.

I am on my second of these in just 2 weeks. The first one was extremely noisy and was returned after only one day.Unit number two developed the same noise after a number of days and is now noisier than the first one. Cheap as bearings on the main component the fan. Does catch bugs etc. and the ones it doesn’t catch are obviously scared of the noise.

I bought this product 2 months ago and haven't seen a mozzie or midgey since. I have it on a timer and it auto turns on at dusk and dawn. It needs to be cleaned out weekly and the water level needs topping up every 2-3 days. Works great, would definitely recommend.
Helps if you read the box. Perhaps like other reviewers, I didn’t read the box or the instructions and thought that it was ineffective. After reading that you needed to put water in the bottom tray with some detergent, it performed better than anything I’ve used before. I also rigged up a bottle filled with water, yeast and sugar as well as a tube pumping the C02 near the machine to aid in attracting mosquitoes. I’ve put it on a timer so it starts up an hour before dusk and stops early morning. Fantastic results once I RTFM.
The device works for capturing bugs but does not attract mosquitoes effectively. The light on mine gave up after a couple of months of intermittent use. Bunnings do not stock the replacement. You need to purchase from the web and pay a premium for the tube and also for postage. Not worth the expense of a third of the price of a new unit just for the light tube!
Bought this specifically for mosquitoes and flies.Outside of box says it manages mozzies and flies with a little * next to flies.Nowhere on the outside of the packaging does it tell you what the * means.Get the product home, unpackage and read instructions - you need to buy additional fly and / or mosquito lures for the product to work (thanks Kelly’s would be super good if you put that on the OUTSIDE of the box or maybe through in a starter pack). The instructions are actually very informative - explaining the flies/mozzies are NOT attracted to these UV lights - ergo the thing is useless unless you have the lures. Again, should be on the OUTSIDE of the box….Back to Bunnings. They don’t carry the fly lures, only the mosquito lures. In fact have found no-one that ... MoreBought this specifically for mosquitoes and flies.Outside of box says it manages mozzies and flies with a little * next to flies.Nowhere on the outside of the packaging does it tell you what the * means.Get the product home, unpackage and read instructions - you need to buy additional fly and / or mosquito lures for the product to work (thanks Kelly’s would be super good if you put that on the OUTSIDE of the box or maybe through in a starter pack). In fact have found no-one that sells the fly lures.$96 for a noisy blue light with fan and tray of water that does not deal with flies or mozzies….In fact I have hilarious videos of the swarm of flies doing laps around an outdoor setting within 1 metre of the fancy Yard Guard Bug Vac.It did catch a moth. Excellent. Moths 0 v Flies 1,000.
I got this a couple of weeks back as the mosquitoes here come in swarms. You need to fill the reservoir/drawer 3/4 with water (or beer if you can afford to spare it) and add a drop of dishwashing liquid. Put it on a timer and start an hour before dark and turn it off an hour after sunrise. I was sceptical but it has eased the mozzie problems by 95%, also catches all sorts of bugs and moths but collateral damage I guess. Im gonna pipe the output of my home brew airlock to the front of the unit, a nice hack to provide large amounts of co2 , Happy camper here!
We keep our 3 running 24/7 in the summer. Check water level every second day or so and empty. We add a small drop of dish liquid to break surface tension. Greatly reduces being under attack from mosquitoes and our dreaded midgies. We still use bug off spray but these vacs really help.
Barely blows air, doesnt work
