Always read peer-reviewed studies on all supplements before you take them, but I think this one actually works.

I've never tried beta alanine before and have already been using creatine for the last year or so.Hypothesis: Beta alanine studies claim it improves performance in short sprint-style workouts (HIIT-type activities lasting ~5 minutes).Duration: I've tested it out for 1.5 weeks.Dosage: I stuck to 1/8tsp per day (which is approx 500 mg. For reference, many studies were done with a minimum dose of 1,600 mg per day but to do that, you have to split it into 3 doses per day and I'm not that committed to taking around a pouch of supplements with me all day, so I just took a single dose in the morning along with breakfast, creatine and vitamins).Physical characteristics: Looks a lot like granulated sugar. Taste (by itself) is minimal, but I would describe it like a very light artificial sweetener flavor. Dissolves in water.Noted side effects: I definitely can feel the brief tingling sensation everybody describes about 30 minutes after taking it. It's not bad at all and goes away after about 15 minutes. The first day, I took it 1 hr before my workout and I also experienced that extra "pump" feeling in your muscles while working out. To avoid that extra "pump" (as it almost felt like I was about to cramp, actually) I made sure I took it first thing in the morning after that first day and had no problems in subsequent workouts. Results: Even though I take 1/3 the minimum dose from the studies, I have noticed an increased ability to push through HIIT workouts and keep moving before experiencing fatigue in the last week and a half. I was honestly not expecting to see any improvement, as I am usually very skeptical of any supplement. Considering my ability to push harder in HIIT workouts has been relatively consistent for the last 1.5 weeks (when I started taking BA), I do think at least some of it can be attributed to the beta alanine supplementation. I will continue to try it (probably keeping it at the current dose) to see how things go long term, but at least I feel confident in stating that the powder I received is actually beta alanine, and so far, I'm seeing a similar improvement effect as described in the studies I read up on.

Custom Pre-Workout Stack by Bulk Supplements
27 March 2017

I purchased this product as a part of my own pre-workout stack consisting of 4 g Beta Alanine, 6 g Citrulline Malate, and 4 g Creatine Monohydrate. I have taken a few other pre-workouts in the past and do not like many of the added fillers ($$), and having to deal with unknown dosage amounts that end up in "proprietary blends". Bulk Supplements provide exactly what they advertise, the purest form of said ingredients at very reasonable products. That being said, the quality of the products are top notch and my results have been reflective of that. That being said, the quality of the products are top notch and my results have been reflective of that. I have made significant gains on my lifts in both volume and number, increased strength, stamina, and endurance, and have been able to do so on a caloric deficit without compromise. My aim was to control the specific dosages of each ingredient for my desired results (fat loss and muscle gain), and Bulk Supplements have allowed me to do that. All three powders mix and dissolve very well with water, with no clumping or residue left behind in the shaker bottle.Beta Alanine is said to help prevent muscular fatigue during workouts, while Citrulline Malate is a vaso-dialator, which leads to a better pump. Creatine Monohydrate helps support lean muscle and ATP synthesis while aiding in muscular recovery. It is especially beneficial for anaerobic exercises that require that extra push.As far as I can tell, the Beta Alanine and Creatine Monohydrate both have neutral flavors, but the Citrulline Malate is extremely bitter. I would recommend mixing with some form of sweetener to offset the bitterness and make this blend more palatable. I use Fruit Punch Gatorade powder (11g) for my mix and it works for me. This is only about a half dose of the Gatorade powder as listed on the bottle, but again, trying to cut involves limiting sugar and calorie intake. Some may want it sweeter, but I'm taking this for results, not taste. To anyone looking to build a custom pre-workout, I would highly recommend using Bulk Supplements. Shipping is fast, accurate, and relatively inexpensive compared to the flashier brands you will see in places like ***. I will soon be adding BCAA 2:1:1 into my daily routine to help with muscle soreness and recovery as well.

I workout often after work, and am trying to gain strength, so I started looking in to pre-workout supplements to give me energy after a long day. The downside with most store bought supplements is that they come with so many fillers, and they ALL have SO MUCH caffeine (which I cannot take after like noon if I want to sleep well). By buying each component separately from bulk supplements, I can design my own pre-workout mix without the caffeine and without any additives. After extensive research (and no, I am not a professional, so I'm not advocating the below unless it worked for you, do your own research!) here is the list of ingredients I use:>Beet Root Powder: Energy, boost endurance and increase strength, replaced caffeine for me -- it definitely has a strong ... MoreI workout often after work, and am trying to gain strength, so I started looking in to pre-workout supplements to give me energy after a long day. Sometimes I throw in coconut sugar for sweetness to offset the strength of the beet.>Beta Alanine: Research shows it helps fight muscle fatigue and increases muscle endurance in high-intensity exercise.>Creatine Monohydrate: Most sports scientists consider creatine to be the number one supplement for increasing strength and power.>L-Citrulline: Citrulline increases blood flow to body tissues. Research shows that for exercise, this may help supply your muscles with the oxygen and nutrients they need and stimulates muscle endurance & reduces muscle soreness>BCAAs: To aid in recovery. Often taken after workouts, but does have similar benefits when take in pre-workouts.>Theanine: Boost alertness and reaction time, it also has a calming effect, so great for afternoon/night workouts. Also found to go great when combined with the caffeine in pre-workouts.I mix all ingredients into a large twist top jar, because adding a little bit from all the bags every day would be tedious! Also because you're working with powder, the zip-lock is annoying, so would not be ideal if opening everyday.

Great brand, good product, MAKE SURE you get your dosing right

About the product: Bulk Supplements is a great brand. Look at their average review across all their products. Few can compete. I've had no complaints with this product, and it came exactly as advertised, which has been true for all of my purchases from their line. Other products by this brand have been quality-tested by third party organizations like LabDoor, and all have exceeded their promises. One thing worth doing is explaining how to work with their products, so here's a short guide -The bags use press-to-seal ziploc, which is not ideal for multiple accesses. I recommend transferring portions of the powder to a mason jar or similar container, using the bag for long-term storage. -There is no scoop provided, because they don't do dosing. What IS provided is a measurement to concentration table. The label gives you measurements in increments of teaspoons (1tsp = 5ml). It's easy to miss and very handy. How (and why) to take beta-alanine: Take 3.2grams per day, taken as either four doses of 800mg or three doses of 1.1g (1100mg), spaced out by at least three hours. The time of day does not matter, and it is irrelevant to take it pre-, post-, or mid-workout. At any given time, it only matters if you have taken it consistently for a week or two. Take it in 800mg doses for one week before trying 1.1g doses to get your body used to it. It's been found that almost all people tolerate 800mg, but most will handle a slightly higher dose without the prickling feeling. I personally take 1.1g without noticeable effects. It takes one to two weeks to reach peak efficacy, and you will lose the performance benefits two to three weeks after you stop taking it. More information and the reasons for this dosing can be found below. I do a meta-analysis of every supplement I consider taking. The information below is up to date via peer-reviewed, vetted studies sourced July 1st 2018. The realistic, studied doses are 3-3.5 grams per day and ~6 grams per day. There has been no difference in results between the two, so my dosing recommendations will be targeted at and just above 3 grams per day. There is no reason to believe lower doses are ineffective, but they have not been studied. Both doses have been found to increase muscle concentration of carnosine and to improve performance in mid-high intensity, mid-high duration activities. Think long sprints, HIIT, swimming, and drop sets. Effect has been observed in general (think resistance training) activities, but it's too early for certainty. Muscle carnosine levels have been found to be highly diet related, so supplementing is very unlikely to cause long-term change. Specifically, vegetarians (which implies vegans also - the significant aspect is the lack of meat in their diet) have chronically lower carnosine levels. It has not been studied, but it is simple to predict beta-alanine supplementation may be even more valuable to non-meat eating groups. Carnosine levels following the end of beta-supplementation have steadily reverted to baseline values across multiple studies. It's only effective while you take it. At 800mg per dose, beta-alanine has consistently shown no prickling or flushing side effects. This number was chosen arbitrarily by researchers, and the only hard data about what doses WILL consistently cause side effects is anything 3g or more in a small time frame. Many will tolerate a larger (than 800mg) dose, but how much larger remains to be seen. If you have any questions, you may reply to my comment and I will do my best to answer and make clear the limitations of my knowledge. The disturbing presence of naturalists, broscientists, and other homeopathic charlatans is something I'm willing to spend my time working against.

I have purchased countless batches of Beta-alanine over 7 years and never had this problem.Bulksupplements QC department went as far as to tell me: "The smell is from the nitrogen gas that's used to flush out any extra oxygen in the bag.""You are more than welcome to transfer the product into a different container and allow it to air out for a few minutes."This is an absolutely absurd claim, I explained to Christina L that nitrogen gas is an inert compound, meaning it HAS NO SMELL. Ultimately they failed to take me seriously at every step of the way.Currently, their product is being sent to a lab to test for said impurity's. If/when confirmed, this will be reported to the appropriate authorities including a log of our interactions. Hopefully this CGMP facility will listen to a 7 year (0 previous complaints) customer going forwards.

I had other diagnostic Rx's of compounds that were so awful that I would have the same mixture days later, til I had to throw it away, becoming foul besides awful! Now, I can drink the Beta-Alanine in a small amount of water along with the 3 other items, no choking, hating life and such as the others gave me! Thanks Bulksupplemnts for offering a reasonably priced, well made vital amino acid compound for those of us who've had a lifetime of being ignored, dismissed, misdiagnosed and paying too much money for too little medical treatment! Taking my health into my own hands & research as guidance; it was that or just lay in bed, agonize til death! This is way better and you are helping me greatly in this winning struggle! Thanks!

That fuzzy, electrical feeling...
21 January 2019

I had started taking a few different mineral and amino acids for supplements and came across Beta Alanine. Mostly used in pre-workout powders, but the majority of what I read is that it isn't in sufficient amounts to really help. Many comments were that they used it individually to build their own pre-workout supplement that was more effective to what they were trying to accomplish. Additionally research led me to Bulk Supplements as a highly rated, but one of the most cost effective companies out there. I generally have well rounded workout routines, heavier on the cardio but I also have a good mix of weight training. I needed a small boost for running and cycling, so after having tried L-Cirtulline I decided to add in some of the Beta Alanine. Its really hard to ... MoreI had started taking a few different mineral and amino acids for supplements and came across Beta Alanine. I needed a small boost for running and cycling, so after having tried L-Cirtulline I decided to add in some of the Beta Alanine. Its really hard to describe, but you know when its working because you will get a nice tingly feeling starting on your face or lips/ears and then it kind takes over. The fact that Bulk Supplements sells it as is with no extra binders or flavorings is a huge value add, plus it's pretty good on the purity level from the testing results I found during a search.I am writing this after taking some as part of my pre-workout, it was good enough that after drinking it my lips slightly felt tingly within 1 minute due to the pre-workout liquid. It's pretty good stuff and will last around 20-30 minutes on what I feel is a good dosage for me.

great Product

I've tried 4 beta alanines: Nutricost's was terrible, Beyond Raw was garbage, and Optimum Nutritions was actually good but they discontinued it. I took Bulk's Beta Alanine today and immediately felt tremendous effects on my workout. It did not increase my strength but it really positively effected my later sets. I usually deplete my energy but Beta Alanine keeps your energy so that your back end sets you're able to push more weight and get in more reps/sets. Definitely recommend. Be sure to load Beta Alanine in your body over about 4 weeks. - Mason Atlanta, GA

Beta alanine is a powdered product that lends itself well to synthesising L-carnosine, which itself is a type of amino acid that provides a host of benefits to anyone involved in much physical activity such as athletes or bodybuilders. Studies show that the level of carnosine is raised significantly and the levels of lactic acid are in turn lowered significantly during physical activity thanks to the presence of beta alanine in the blood stream. Its main use is as a buffer, which prevents acid levels in the body from rising to a level in which they may damage muscle tissue. This means that beta alanine can raise the level of overall physical performance when taken as a supplement, by increasing the threshold of lactate. Beta alanine is the only beta amino acid in the body which it is not necessary to supplement through dietary intake because it is naturally occurring. Beta alanine is chiefly useful in increasing the longevity of endurance when doing any sort of physical activity, allowing the person taking it to exercise much longer and thus, increase their muscle mass or burn their fat much more efficiently. In addition it indirectly helps to widen the blood vessels via carnosine, which increases blood flow during long bouts of physical activity.
