Bundaberg Rum was established in 1888 and was created as a solution for local sugar mills to utilise the waste molasses produced once sugar had been drawn from the sugarcane. It was super heavy, so transport costs were prohibitive and it was also considered too costly to convert the molasses into feed for livestock.
