The trailer rides comfortably behind your bike, there is no noticeable imbalance caused by the trailer, even on faster (fire road) descents. Of course you’ll notice the extra weight and if you have a moving load (like a puppy dog) the trailer will be noticeable. But my dog also needed time to get used to the trailer. On trail sections he now stands up in the trailer and is “surfing” the trail. The trailer is very mobile and wel suited for a narrow singletrack, but keep in mind you can’t manoeuvre tight bends. So why only 4 stars. Yes, the dog likes it, the handling is very good, and I love the time spent on the trails together with my little traildog….We’ll, the concept of this trailer is great, it is a sturdy and well thought out design. But as stated in the other review there are some (minor) setbacks. Yes the trailer is noisy on the trail, the couplings are not really tight and make noise. Probably a downside of the manoeuvrability, so that is something I can live with. But it’s concept, being easy to put together and take-apart, has a downside. The front and rear use quick releases and plastic bearings, probably a cost saving, so I’m wondering how it will hold up in the long run.But for this price the trailer seems a good deal, but keep in mind, it is very good but not perfect!

Takes a pounding. I use it weekly for errands around town. I've taken 'the long way' and have taken it down trails and through snow full of groceries. Its max load of 70lb can be iffy in tight turns , but you quickly learn how to manage with the trailer connected. Im using the Burly balls (quick disconnect replacement version) and its a soild connection that not even banging down trails can brake. I have ziptied all the trailer quick disconnect pins. When I lockup I pull off the quick disconnect trailer wheel off to lock both it and the trailer through my bike and the rack using the largest Kryptonite New-U U lock. Don't forget to lock the wheel w/ the trailer. People will steal anything

You must purchase a new axle for your bike, that MEC doesn't even sell. Must be purchase from Burley.2. There is only a limited set of axle lengths available. Check to make sure you axle size is supported before buying this product. There is a sizing guide available on the Burley website. As I have just found, after driving all the way into MEC to pick the trailer up and unpackaging everything, the thru axle length on my bike is not supported!

Our family was going on a 6-day bike trip with mountain bikes, and I wanted to buy what seemed to be the best trailer for the trip, the Coho XC. However, after 3 days, our trip came to an abrupt end when the QR axle broke. Here is my full review. On Day 1, we drove 7 km with our trailer, and already it was a bit challenging because the trailer was not as stable as we thought it would be. It was wobbly and difficult to steer, but we managed to have an okay experience with the Burley Coho XC, although it didn't feel like having two wheels in the back, it was wobbly and unstable. On Day 2, we drove 8 km, and here again, there was some wobbling, but nothing out of the ordinary. On Day 3, we were supposed to drive 50 km in the forest, but we only made it about 30 km when ... MoreOur family was going on a 6-day bike trip with mountain bikes, and I wanted to buy what seemed to be the best trailer for the trip, the Coho XC. Being in the middle of the woods with a family and children, this is far from optimal, especially when it's raining. The QR axle is a special axle exclusively for the Burley Coho XC, which costs about 70 USD, and it's not something you expect to buy two of at that price, nor do you expect it to break after approximately 40 km of use!So, what did we have to do? We had to cut our 6-day bike trip short to 3 days because it was a special axle for the rear wheel, and it would take about 2 weeks to get new spare parts! So, my tip for cycling is to buy a bike trailer that doesn't use special axles if you're going on a vacation because if it breaks, your vacation ends right there, just like it did for us!My recommendation to Burley Coho XC is:• If you're going to use special attachments, make sure to use the best material for the skewer as well! For 70 USD, you can fix that.• Try to design a QR axle that is as easy as possible to replace components, think about being out in the bush without a bike shop. Think about how to weld it so that you can still use the bike trailer.• The Burley Coho XC, I don't know, for us, it was very wobbly and not fun to ride, but it worked.• Try using a different type of rear wheel suspension as it feels very dangerous. If I had been going faster than 10 km/h, it would have been really bad for me, let's say 30 km/h, then I probably wouldn't be writing this review! The trailer got caught in the wheel, causing an immediate stop. Think about it!My recommendation is to never buy a bike trailer from Burley that uses their own special wheel attachments, and maybe avoid using the wheel suspension as a connection point because if it breaks, your bike breaks too. Instead, buy something that attaches to the bike externally or connects to the frame! Just a tip from someone who now has firsthand experience with the Burley Coho XC.

Excellent All Purpose Cart

I've had my Burley Coho for a little over a month now. I like it very much! The reasons why:This area has a great deal of options for bikers; extensive multi-use trails, bike lanes, polite drivers for sharing sections of road, and kind pedestrians. The caveats are that the bike lanes are often narrow/paint only, the multi-use trails can occasionally be quite chaotic and busy, and there are ofen very narrow-set bollards, narrow entrace gates, and sharp L and Z bends to access sections of the trails.A small, agile cart that can get through anything my handlebars can fit through felt really important due to the potential chaos and narrowness of paths and passing. The Coho is amazing for this! I feel like I'm basically just biking like normal. The Coho also seems quite well designed, as far as I can tell. You can neatly fit in it a stack of large pizza boxes, along with a backpack to the front or back of the pizzas. There are many tie points if you've got an outsized or unusual load or are bundling things. The tie down versatility makes it a lot like the bed of a teeny industrial truck.Cart stability seems very good, with one exception. I went for a Coho because of online chatter saying that carts with its design are actually the best for stability: the Coho can't flip over coming off a curb or on angles the way many two wheel designs can. This is true! I has exceptional stability on straightaways, and as long as my bike is upright, it'll stay upright on straightaways. When making extremely sharp short turns (L and Z bends at trail entrance points and some crossings) it can list to the side a quite bit though with it's design, even if the bike is fully upright. Not a deal breaker, but something to be careful of. On the plus side again for stability, the wide-stance kickstand is superb if you want to park it briefly to tap a crossing sign or are loading it! My bike also has a dual kickstand, so they stay nice and paused when needed.Overall, I'd say it's an immensly versatile cart that can be easily taken anywhere a bike can, with the bonus is that it can carry pretty much anything within weight limits.Oh last thought: It's good for apartments! I live on the second story, so most e-bikes or cargo bikes are a no-go due to weight and trying to heft them up stairs. This cart is light, so I just carry the cart and my bike down separate and attach them when needed. Nice and simple. Anyway, 5/5 for it!

Good product but bad business

I'm happy enough with the design and function of the trailer. It's great that I can do easily attach and detach it as needed, and I'm a fan of the kick stand. The shocks work really well so it feels better on dirt than even my surly. While it has a high weight limit, I wouldn't suggest trying to reach it as it gets a more noticable wobble as you get above 20 lbs. My biggest gripe tho was being mislead by the product description and videos that were available at the time when I purchased it, claiming that it would come with the necessary quick release axel. It wasn't until 3 days after I purchased that I was updated with an email that infact would not, and that it wouldn't be in stock for several months. Supposably this saves on manufacture waste, but it not as if the price of the product dropped to reflect the missing part, and if it's being packaged and shipped separately I don't see how that's actually doing much to lessen their carbon footprint. If that is truly their motive, I would suggest adding an axel option at purchase, so that it will be in the box or to come up with a more universal solution. It's bitter and petty, but I had to scramble to call every bike store in my city and managed to get lucky enough to find the last one in a store more than 50 miles away. Not something I expected to have to do after already paying 450$ for it. I feel bad for those who won't be able to locate that axel and will now have to deal with returning it. (And not to mention the wasted fuel and labeling to do so) I hope to grow to love this trailer on my tour, but I can't see myself wanting to buy or recommend burley in the future.

I really like this trailer, but there are a couple of issues
2 October 2021

I am new to the single track trailer world, so consider that as I offer the following: I am towing this trailer with my Luna X1 Enduro eBike. So the good - It tracks very well on single track (with an exception noted below under "The problematic"), if my pedals clear an obstacle on rough trails, then so does the trailer, the yoke does not hit even on 15" drops, it pulls well and nearly undetectably on even moderately rough, moderately level trails. It holds gear well and in a reasonable quantity. The problematic - Two issues. One, the towing yoke has some elasticity in it which allows the mass in the trailer to roll side-to-side out of frequency with the bike (my eBike is heavy at about 55lbs). The result is that as the bike moves side to side the roll in the ... MoreI am new to the single track trailer world, so consider that as I offer the following: I am towing this trailer with my Luna X1 Enduro eBike. One, the towing yoke has some elasticity in it which allows the mass in the trailer to roll side-to-side out of frequency with the bike (my eBike is heavy at about 55lbs). The result is that as the bike moves side to side the roll in the trailer is behind the movement of the bike and can pull the bike sideways out of time with the bike's movement, making the steering hard to control while maneuvering in tight conditions. Incidentally, pushing the bike side to side in sync with strong pedaling is not advised with any weight in the trailer. Number Two, the radius you can turn your bike is restricted in tighter switchbacks, as the yoke of the trailer bars against the front of the trailer. When descending switchbacks, once the trailer is barred, the weight in the trailer pushes the bike's rear tire sideways. With 30 lbs in my trailer, I chose to walk several descending switchbacks. So the trailer is great. But you can't put a boat trailer on your 4x4 pickup and expect it to work the same on difficult trails that it would without that trailer. I am going to keep pulling my Burley Coho on the trails where I go.

Long term Owner of this trailer for my dog

I bought this trailer after dumping my dog out of two wheel trailers a few times. My dog loves this trailer! I have a 45 pound Border collie. The trailer leans with your bike so any cornering speed the force is down not to the outside of the corner, my dog stands the whole time when I ride. The only time he has been thrown from the trailer is when I crash and one time we were hit by a car ( the car was going slow ). A beginner rider will not be able to throw 50 pounds in this and hit the trail without feeling it. The turning radius is reduced but that should be expected.Pros light weight, connects and disconnects in a second, well built, leans with the bike for petscons I removed the kick stand, but that was due to me dragging this over rock sections on the trail, the shock is not much use as the spring rate is just too much for a 20 pound trailer and a near 50 pound dog. You need an axle for your specific bike (not too big of a deal, find the correct axle before purchasing the trailer, they provide a link ) It would be nice to have the off road tire as an option right off the bat. Noisy empty when my dog is running.4 stars due to the shock, I would love to have a $250 option of an air shock.

Not compatible with my new Trek touring bike

I ordered the trailer knowing I would need to research what correct axle adapter I would need (i.e., the Ballz axel they sell). It is complicated, so I put it off until yesterday. So to recap, I ordered the trailer, THEN decided to check my axel, with plan to order their axel a few days later, once I knew what one I needed. That was a big mistake. I contacted the company and they dont make an axel, with that thread pitch, that short. I was (and am) shocked. Now I cannot use this amazing product, on that amazing bike, all because of a simple 6 inch piece of lite metal. The connecting process is really the crux of this product and its frustrating. I'm disappointed, should have been smarter, and want to share my experiences so you don't do the same thing. Check your rear axel well before ordering this product kids! There is at least a chance it wont fit (something I never, ever considered). I am giving it full stars because I do really think this is a fantastic product if it fits & I won't knock them for what they have....I just want them to make is so it'll fit on more bikes. Like I said, I dont have an odd ball sized axel - Im sure there are tens of thousands of bikes out there just like mine. Burley, you're missing a huge portion of the market because of this inexpensive piece of metal.

I bought this directly from burley, not on rei, but burley does not publish negative english reviews. while the design is really solid and does appear to be easy to damage, its very heavy on its own and feels unstable once any amount of weight is added. I frequently ride with loaded panniers and sometimes move oddly shaped loads on top. but with the coho xc you will not get anywhere near that 70lb limit before this thing fights you, no matter how you pack it. on my final ride with this trailer it wagged so violently that it threw me off my bike. I frequently ride with loaded panniers and sometimes move oddly shaped loads on top. but with the coho xc you will not get anywhere near that 70lb limit before this thing fights you, no matter how you pack it. on my final ride with this trailer it wagged so violently that it threw me off my bike. I ended of with large amounts of road rash, eight stiches on my face, massive goose egg on my cheek, black eye, and had to have my hand splinted. thank goodness I had a helmet!after this incident, I happened to find out that this trailer had a recall on ALL QR axels that have ever been made by that point! and while I always get there adds in my email, I never got any sort of notice from them about this recall. I could go on about the service from burley (its bad), but more importantly, this product is dangerous and it shouldn't be on the market. its such a shame, there are some really good ideas with this cart- the quick release, the kickstand, the fender that can even have its own set of panniers, the shocks, it can all fold down into itself easily, but unfortunately, none of those things matter if it tries to kill you when ever you put 10lbs of anything in it.
