I've used nothing but Burton Ions in the past. However this year's boot was out of control stiff. The hard plastic toe-cap was a deal breaker for me. You have absolutely no flex in the toes, so it really diminishes the uses for this boot. In previous years it was more of a hard leather, or synthetic which had some give over time allowing you to break these in and have a stiffer but also some give for a good board feel. These boots do not supply that.I've had to retire these boots after 2 seasons because they feel like I am walking/riding in ski boots. I'll have to go to the SLX's.

Great boot, although the stitching of the inner seems a bit dodgy. Time will tell in how it holds up. Small overall footprint for the size of boot. Obviously works well with Burton bindings - still one of the best interfaces in the industry.

Having just bought the lighting quick and ultra responsive Lib-Tech Dark Series C2 BTX, I needed a pair of high quality boots that could complement the aggressive needs of the new board.I previously owned a pair of Burton Rulers, which served me very well. I prefer to buy snowboard boots a half size smaller than my normal shoe size. I highly suggest doing the same with these. It will be very uncomfortable for the first hour, but these will pack out beautifully.One suggestion that worked very well: Find an hour to kill in order to break-in the boots. While watching an hour long TV show, I put the boots on with a normal gym sock. I tightened them 50% of normal and then squatted in a baseball catcher's position (of course only hold this position for as long as is comfortable). After ten minutes of periodic squatting, I tightened them 75% and repeated the squatting process. I also got into a position to stretch my calves in them. This helped loosen them a bit. It only took a few runs the next day to get comfortable. By lunch, I was able to tighten the boots completely with no discomfort.By a half size smaller than your normal shoes size, because they pack out beautifully. Once these are fully broken in, they are amazing!

Got the 2014 Ions but since day one they have been giving me extreme ankle pain since the first run. Heat molded after that and didn't help, did it again with no improvement. Had a couple different shops tell me to wait and they will break in but its been about 30 days now and its getting worse. Liner seems to be breaking down more and offering little to no protection. Contacted Burton and they won't warranty them even though there is clearly something wrong with the boot. This is the tenth burton boot I've owned and first one to give me problems. First time I've also had problems with Burtons warranty.They completely changed the liner for 2014. BUYERS BEWARE!
I naturally have thin ankles but ride aggressively with the burden system. The boot is customizable, and the added J bars which are easily added into the boot after purchase solve this problem. If you ride extremely aggressively in the park or down, steep t, driving a meter or shift board and power springing out of your carve these boots are highly recommended it. However, they will break down just like any other boot this price point is more for the performance gains while riding don't expect a boot to last you forever unless you are the few who can drive the boot, but barely use it. Additionally, most people who buy these boots might like to overtighten, which can destroy the performance of the boot, would recommend trying them on and going down a size if you're ... I would love Burton to bring back the infinite liner or just make the boot slightly more durable and give up some of the comforts. But it is still one of the best boots I've ever owned usually lasts me about 30 days on the mountain before the boots are ripped apart. However, the Burton Warranty is great unless you're the person who doesn't ride the boots enough which is probably the people who are subsidizing the warranty process and allowing them to make the boot more consumer-friendly. Would be great if they made it a base version and a pro version just a little more durable..... But the warranty process is good enough for me to get five stars on its own.

I've worn them 6 times this season already and in all type of conditions, early season conditions, powder, ice, groomed runs, you name it I've boarded on it with these. I was looking for a stiff boot to give me maximum control when I mob down the mountain and they hold their stiffness really well.A couple pieces of advice: 1) Do not tighten the inner boot as tight as you can. At the start, they hurt my feet a bit since they are sooo stiff, but now they are so much better and they still hold their stiffness.Lastly, I have to say I absolutely up the lacing system!!!! My Soloman boots had a similar system (pull laces), but over time they ended up coming undone and my boot would lose all stiffness as a result. I don't see that happening with these. I also love the design of the handles for the laces. They really thought through how a rider should be securing the laces. Pull them as tight as you can and then wrap the cord around the handle and place them in the side of your boot. 100 times better than how Salamon designed their boots to hold the laces.
I like the laces on these boots and the look of them with the "scales" on the toe are pretty cool. I don't think these are the most comfortable boots and I get pressure on the top of my foot when I flex down with my knees over my toes. I'm hoping they'll still break in but will definitely be considering insoles or something to help with the foot pain. With the product reviews being so high on these Burton Ions I would have to give great caution buying into the idea these are "the best" boots. Try some on and most definitely have them molded to fit in store.
Great boots, my 4th pair of IONs over the years. I did get BOAs for the first time ever and make note, the BOAs can come off if they are impacted. However, they are made to do so on these boots and they can be put back on.I also need to run these boots a little looser than I am used to. Previous models I would need to crank down, but if I do that here, it really hurts my feet. With the right tension (much lighter), they are very comfortable and supportive boots. My go to.
Decided to upgrade from my K2 Maysis, super excited for this season. They feel stiffer yet more comfortable than the K2s. Also the K2 Boa system would constantly loosen, hoping the Ion speed lace stays locked. Will update review during the season.
My prior boots were 2008 Ions with speedzone laces. I don't recall the originals being this stiff, but the response from these boots is fantastic. Speedzone is improved, and they claim the laces are bombproof. My '08s broke and Burton couldn't find replacement laces. The liner no longer has a velcro strap to secure the top. Now its overlapping flaps that velcro over the center. reminds me of an aircast. it's probably the best feature on this boot. I'm a size 12 in every shoe brand. The old Ions i sized down to an 11.5. For the '19 Ions i ended up sizing down to an 11. I still feel there is the possibility of cramming my foot into a 10.5.
