I bought this amp for turntable use and CD. My current setup is on Polk RTA 11t, Yamaha CDC changer and a U Turn Orbit with Ortofon OM5e cartridge. I dont blast my music. That said, i rarely ever need more power than 30w/ch. The sound reminds me of the NAD 3020 and 304 I used to own. I mention the following to best describe the sound. The Polk 11t are still using original tweeters and the speakers sound character is like a vintage receivers loudness contour. That can make the Polk a little distant, and theres that notorious 10KHz peak, but its still a much preferred sound to my ears. The Cambridge AXA35 brings forward a just right midrange balance. I love this kind of affordable high-end product for us middle-class audiophiles.

Fantastic product! Using it to drive my front speakers in a 5.2 set-up, because I wanted a better source for my analog music. My albums sound better than ever using the phono stage. I connected a DAC for my digital music and it sounds better than my avr. Don't be fooled by the power rating-this unit has plenty of power to drive your speakers. Overall I could not be happier. The Cambridge Audio Axa 35 is a great value.

It's been 9 months now that I'm running this amp. My room is small and my speakers are relatively sensitive (90dB), but they are not that easy to move (PMC TB1). I can get fair enough loudness, but I always felt that I was missing something. I know that maybe my speakers are one step above in category in respect to this amp. But That was my budget and I'm thinking if I should have choose the Yamaha that's in the same league (don't remember the model). Anyway, I don't mean it sounds bad. It has muscle, it's dynamic, and stages well, but it's somehow soft (perhaps that's the sound signature). I wanted something to compare with and I plugged and old and faulty Thomson amp 40wpc. Other thing I'd like to know is how to do the rec out turnaround to a subwoofer. I'm clueless. I mean, it has to be there for one reason other than recording tapes like in the old days, right?

This omission was not made clear on the website. Luckily I had spare interconnects. Another omission which also seems to be standard practice these days was the lack of manual, just a single sheet 'getting started' guide. The manual is available online and at only ten pages seems daft not being included in printed form.Having said all that setting up the system was very straightforward. I had anticipated needing speaker cable and had purchased some at the same time. Be aware that this will require cutting to length and terminating. Within an hour it was powered up and working.I have an eclectic interest in music spanning electronic through to folk and heavy rock through to classical. Having listened to a variety of musical styles I am well pleased with the results from my new system. The sound is crisp with individual instruments presented with a clarity and sweetness lacking in my previous equipment. The output from the amplifier and speakers is more than sufficient to fill a moderately large room with a lush and immersive sound. Impressive and overall worth the outlay.I would certainly recommend both Cambridge Audio and Wharfedale Diamond as brands and would certainly purchase from Richer Sounds again in future.

I took my time to unpack and place it where it would be in the right place though as I did explain to the Telesales person I only live in a small to medium size Flat and I had to consider my neighbour who lives below me as I'm on the first floor. So now I had to sort out the wiring of the speaker wire and that was no joke I could not for the life of me understand why I could not get the speaker wire onto the speaker plugs at the back then with investigation of my own I found out these 4mm banana plugs you can get and after putting those on the speaker wire which was dead easy I had to ring up a Telesales ... The final verdict is the AXA35 Amplifier is as straight forward and perfect for a small to medium size room especially living in a Flat where sound volume is a balancing act to get the right amount of sound volume as possible. The remote control is perfect if you buy into the Cambridge AXA SERIES AS THE REMOTE OPERATES NOT ONLY THE AMP BUT ALSO THE CD player. You just got to remember which A1 or A2 etc your on though that don't matter you get use to it after time. You also have options if the remote stopped working to use the controls on the front panel of the amplifier. You do get a USB socket but strangely enough it is only for charging up things like a phone etc which absolutely does not make any sense they missed the boat on that one. It took me longer to get to grips setting it up but took my time and with various communications with Richer Sounds I got there in the end and when you learn you find out how straight forward it is. But remember to get right the speaker wire for minus and plus set up don't want to mess up on that. I would however if you are a beginner to go the store at Richer Sounds if possible or never worry about phoning up Telesales Team they are there to help and assist as I can say is true. The AXA35 Cambridge Amplifier is perfect for simple straight forward sound quality at it's best for the price you are paying and a lovely design as well no frills mean machine. Don't forget it has a dedicated phono sockets at the back for a separate Turntable. Awesome!!!

The sound quality of the AXA35 is fine, although the bass is less meaty than that of the old amps. It is in use with two large folded horns with "Stentorian" 12" full-range drivers (see photo), and is used for TV as well as turntable. The remote control has a niggle or two. It is a multi-purpose one also designed for use with a CD/DVD player and the menu gives control over the AXA35. It is not positive in engagement, however, sometimes failing to switch off (and on) and, admittedly a minor point, the previous sound levels revert each time to zero and have to be reset at each play. I went for the AXA35 because of the good reviews and that it had a powered USB socket on the back. I figured I would use that to power the chromecast audio for a nice slick set-up. There is one major issue though, connected to a usual usb power supply and connected to the AXA35 the sound was really nice but using the powered usb on the AXA35 it introduces a lot of unwelcomed electrical noise. In the quite parts of music it is especially noticeable. I then through I would try the USB socket to power a USB Dac... it doesn't power it. I just sold my JBL Studio 590's as too big physically and sonically for the space in my 62' ranch. Picked up the JBL L52's, paired with the AXA35, I am all smiles going through the Qobuz catalog. I mainly listen to electronic based music which encompasses ambient, techno, drum & bass but also the likes of The Cure, Depeche Mode, Flaming Lips etc. A lot of bang for the buck with this amp! Just go for it if your needs are modest and your budget is light.
I've been slowly acquiring individual components over the past two years, and I wanted to get a decent 2 channel hifi amp. I have very efficient Klipsch speakers, so knew I didn't necessarily need to pair them with an amp with massive amounts of power. After enjoying several other Cambridge products in the past, I settled on the AXA35. I had reservations about only 35 watts. That concern was completely unfounded. This amp absolutely rocks - plenty of power. And super clean, very transparent sound. Couldn't be happier with the purchase and it is a steal for what it costs.
