The CamelBak Crux reservoir delivers high-flow hydration while keeping weight positioned low on your back for better stability in the saddle and on the trail, features an ergonomic handle for easier refilling and has an on/off lever at the bite valve that prevents leaks. Features Quick Link system lets you easily disconnect the drink tube and remove the reservoir from your pack (an auto shutoff valve prevents leakage). Integrated reservoir baffles reduce water sloshing and create a low profile for easy pack loading. Hydroguard antimicrobial technology inhibits the growth of bacteria in the reservoir and tube. Big bite valve is easy to use and self seals after each drink. Leakproof on/off lever at bite valve offers water when you want it and prevents leaks when you don't. Large access port makes it easy to clean and fill. Ergonomic handle makes it possible to fill with one hand.

Bigger Opening, won't fit previous model Carriers

The opening that the fill port sits in don't have enough leeway for the Crux opening to even fit in. Even the new handle is too long for those HydroBak and ThermoBak cover flaps to fit over.Good thing the Quicklink connector is the same as the Antidote Reservoir as I can always swap hydration tubes and or add a filter. It's like they have never closed a glass jar with a metal lid or put a nut on the end of a bolt. The thing has threads that tighten one way and loosens the other. If you kust put the cap on and just turn it right away, you could end up cross-threading it and that's where you end up with leaks. The trick is simple and I've done this with the first screw on reservoirs with the blue cap to the Omega black caps and now even with this Crux version.First, set the cap flat on the opening,Then turn it counter-clockwise (left for you simple minded folks) until it clicks,Then turn the cap clockwise (to the right) until it tightens. There, it should be properly sealed now.Found a video from CamelBak on the proper closing of the lid/cap.That one review showing the cap and washer being too big, that isn't a washer, it's the cap retaining ring.

I have a previous version of the CamelBak 1.5 L reservoir that doesn't have the quick connect hose fitting. Really like CB 1.5L for day hiking and use with CB Mule for biking. Decided to order a spare. Quick hose connect is a nice feature. I fill, turn cap counter clockwise 2 turns applying pressure to seat and turn clockwise with pressure to close. I turn upside down and suck air out of reservoir via hose, and lay cap side down to test for leaks. Only use for water and haven't had any issues with mold. I purchased an aftermarket hanger that works well to dry and store reservoir after I drain both reservoir and hose and wipe remaining water out of reservoir with a paper towel.

This is decent but not great. Its flaws will get you soggy and annoyed. The cap is difficult to attach correctly, especially if it is inside your bag and you aren't looking directly at it. I don't remove the reservoir every time I fill it up, especially because the unnecessary and bulky handle makes it extremely difficult to get back inside the back pouch of my bag. I sometimes bike to work, with my work shirt, towel and other supplies in the backpack. Today, because the cap was not fully secure, even though it felt snug, it leaked all over my shirt, towel, wallet, bag, etc. Extremely annoying.

Good but a little hard to close without leaks
27 July 2022

Got this as a backup for my current one because the reservoirs always go first while the vest is still fine. It's a good size and I do like the ability to shut off the valve. Easy to flip from on to off, even while running. The hold handle for filling is very useful. Only issue - you do need to be very careful while closing it. It's very easy to get just a bit off as you screw it shut, not quite catching. Then it will leak all over everything. The only way you know you've got it wrong is that one side might be uneven by ~1/16th inch. Other than that, it feels like it closed. As long as you check for leaks, though, it is just dandy. I use it in the vest for both trail running and street running.

Great Replacement
21 August 2020

Bought a couple of the new Crux line reservoirs to either replace in my current CamelBak MULE or to use in a used CamelBak HAWG I bought that didn't come with one. The new dual hook system is different so you need to modify your pack a bit to make it work. Simple solution I have found is to hand stitch a 3-inch loop of either 550 cord or other similar braided nylon cord (boot lace works just as well) to the inside top of the pack or to the existing 1/2-inch strap that holds CamelBak's previous model reservoir single hook. With that I just slip the loop over both hooks and it hangs securely in place. Now I can use these new Crux reservoirs just like the way they should as a replacement.Glad they have the QuickLink connection on the reservoir as I like being able to ... MoreBought a couple of the new Crux line reservoirs to either replace in my current CamelBak MULE or to use in a used CamelBak HAWG I bought that didn't come with one. Now I can use these new Crux reservoirs just like the way they should as a replacement.Glad they have the QuickLink connection on the reservoir as I like being able to just disconnect the hydration tube without having to remove it from the pack and just remove the reservoir. I have different size reservoirs that I use and being able to use the same hydration tube already run through the pack is a time-saver/less hassle. Not too fond of the new on/off valve that comes with the Crux or care about the 20% more sip tube. I still have my previous Antidote hydration tubes and use them instead since the QuickLink connection is the same. So for those that have or use filters with their previous Antidote reservoirs, just swap out the new Crux tube and use your current hydration tube and filter setup. The Crux reservoirs don't have dryer arms like the previous Antidote reservoirs, so I bought some of those 18-inch reusable GearTie from NiteIze and use them to keep the reservoir open to dry out after use/cleaning. I wrap the middle around the new handle and bend the two ends to prop the reservoir open.

Great way to carry water
3 September 2022

I am sure there are other water pouches, I am not going to claim that CB is better or worse than others. I like CB and have been using them since they came out and long before they had competition. This one is BIG, used it as a water source for the family walking around Yosemite and while it wasn't enough for all of us all day, it sure put a dent in our needs. It is heavy when full, but the fact that it isn't in your hands helps. If you really need to tote around about a gallon of water, then this is how to do it, it will get 1 person a very long way. I like that the tube separates, and that it has a shutoff valve so it doesn't leak. Every time I get a new CB pouch, there is something new that makes them interesting. If you have a Camelbak you need this!

I bought this to clean my camelback. I was a little skeptical because for me it was going to be a “waste of money” . My idea was just to clean it, dry and use. I was wrong! There was some nasty stuff inside the bladder and tube because of my way to wash it. Bought the cleaning kit, use the tube brush, the bladder brush, wash it , drop the cleaning tablet and hang it to dry in that nice drier hanguer and bladder expanding product. No more smelly bladder and a crystal clear drinking tube. Buy the product and buy extra cleaning tablets. Believe me, you are going to use the tablets even in your water bottles. Do not believe that you are going to be able to live without it. You have an expensive camelbak. Ode to my bladder
28 September 2021

In it's essence, what we have here is a bladder that holds water. Simple enough, there are many water holding bladders on the market. This one differs from the the others in many ways which I feel makes it superior. First, the material does not impart a chemical flavor to the water. Second, the fill port is very ergonomic on filling and positively watertight even on rough trails (read here, I fall sometimes...). Third, the hose attachment at the bag is well secured and water tight, This plastic fitting is well connected and is terribly resilient (falls on rocky trails verify this). Fourth, as I often hike with 'ultra-lite' enthusiasts that NEVER bring enough water and leave their water filters to save on weight, this bag allows me to keep everyone hydrated and ... MoreIn it's essence, what we have here is a bladder that holds water. So, construction, resilience and capacity are the greatest features. As it's easy to clean and resistant to microbial growth it simply rocks a lot harder than most of it's competition. Bottom line: If you want a large capacity bladder for yourself or your herd, this is the one to get.

Some Pros and Cons

I bought this CamelBak a month ago to replace an old reservoir. I have somethings I like and somethings I am not as thrilled about.Pros:1. Easy open/close leak - proof cap seals well, makes filling easy, and makes cleaning easy.2. Easy to drink water from with the self - sealing Big Bite valve without water dripping.Quick Link System-this is absolutely great for quickly and easily removing the tube and makes it easy to disconnect because it auto shuts off.3. Shape - I don't like the new shape compared to my old rectangular shape which I used in my CamelBak brand backpacks and regular backpacks. Now I need to get a new CamelBak backpack for mountain biking because this does not fit great. Yes, I have older equipment which I still like to use.Cons:1. ... MoreI bought this CamelBak a month ago to replace an old reservoir. Will Last Forever!!!!
16 August 2022

I have owned this reservoir for about 5 years and it has held up great. I am probably not the most gentle person with my gear (thanks to my clumsiness), so it says a lot that I have had this reservoir for 5 years. ;) I do not understand the bad reviews on this… seems like user error to me and quite nit-picky! Many of those things listed in the negative reviews can be fixed. Take care of this reservoir properly and it will last you a long time! Two other features I enjoy: 1.) I love how I can squeeze water out of the straw for my dog’s bowl (there is not always a stream for him to drink from) and 2.) it has fit perfectly in my other packs I have for backpacking! I will continue to use this for all of my adventures! Thanks CamelBak :)
