This is the perfect kid-size Camelbak for my youngest son. I plan on giving it to him for his birthday in 2 weeks. Black with red flames…what’s more to love?! This thing holds a lot of water! 1.5 liters! It will be perfect to take on hikes, or even for outdoor play on a hot summers day. He’s going to love the 2 pockets on the front to store any treasures he finds along the way, slip in a bandaid, small bottle of sanitizer, or knowing him- to take a couple snacks for the adventure! 😂

I tend to be minimalist when it comes to hydration setups, preferring a simple water bottle mount unless rides get really long or hot, and I carry my tools, pump, and spare tube on my frame instead of on my back. My primary use for a pack has been carrying all the snacks, water and spare 20” tubes for my 6-year-old when we go on family trail rides, but he is now enrolled in a mountain bike camp and must carry his own gear. That led us to using one of my smallest Dakine packs for his setup. This worked pretty well, but we decided to try a pack that was specifically designed for kids, the Camelbak Mini M.U.L.E.The size of the Camelbak was definitely more ideal for his small frame, and the 3 pockets worked well for stashing away a spare tube, several snacks, an ... MoreI tend to be minimalist when it comes to hydration setups, preferring a simple water bottle mount unless rides get really long or hot, and I carry my tools, pump, and spare tube on my frame instead of on my back. The bladder from Camelbak is one of my favorites and is always easy to fill and clean, plus it has a hook that keeps it nicely oriented inside the bag. My only gripe with this bag is that there isn’t a waist strap to keep the pack from bouncing on rowdier trails. While this may not be an issue for many kids, more and more groms are starting to ride earlier and charging harder, so this seems like a simple feature to add. Overall, he’s really liked riding with this pack and he loves the graphics, plus it means a few less things for his dad to have to carry.Pros:- Good bag size for small riders- Well designed pockets that carry just enough- Bladder is easy to fill and clean, and stays in place in the bag- Kiddo loves the graphics- Chest strap has a whistle just in caseCons:- No waist strap to keep it from bouncing on rougher trails- No hose clip to keep it snugly in place

Overall great product. The pack that the reservoir sits in is light with strong material. Some extra storage for things kids may want to pack along for the hike (ie snacks). The one thing we were a little disappointed in was the connection between the hose and the reservoir and the connection between the hose and the mouthpiece. Out of the box, the hose seemed overstretched and fell off the reservoir connection piece with little pull (same with the hose and mouthpiece). This caused lots of leaking - almost seems like it needed a new hose from the start.

These are a great little backpack for kids. I got sick of stopping every 5minutes to give the kids a drink out of a traditional drink bottle. These backpacks are evenly weighted and small enough to fit their little bodies. With 1.5l of water storage, it's fantastic for long treks. The design is wonderful and it has ample storage for day trips. We were able to fit in a hiking towel, little first aid kit and some snacks. My girls aged 5 and 8 walked for 4 hours with these packs - no problems. I am a big fan and would highly recommend. I love the quality that comes with the Camelbak range. It is such a bonus that all the parts on the bladder can be replaced. If the kids chew through the bite valve it's easily replaced. Ordered these for Christmas and we finally filled them up for the first time in March. Our kids were pretty pumped to take their new CamelBakMini on a real hike. My wife and I went to fill them up and?wait for it?they both leaked because there wasn?t a good seal.We came home and tried to return them to Backcountry. But we had ?used? them so it became a warranty issue. Emailed the warranty department and they gave us the run around telling us to reach out to the manufacturer.I purchase things from Backcountry and other large outdoor retailers because they go to bat for the customers so we don?t need to deal with a warranty department. It is becoming increasingly apparent with Backcountry and others that that is no longer the case.

Good, but flawed. Needs a somewhat easy fix
17 March 2023

We bought two of these because our two very active kids always make us carry their water bottles. The backpacks are fun and simple enough for our 5 & 7 yr old to use. They have two zipper pockets and an expandable outside pocket perfect for carrying a little camp towel.Unfortunately, the other reviews are correct. They leaks pretty badly. Both leaked the first time we filled them. The leak, for us, is where the tube connects to the bladder. The rubber tubes are just a little too loose and it allows water to slowly drip out, but drips faster under pressure.I implemented a simple fix by using some small zip ties to tighten up the connection spot. I am not sure if this is a known fix or not, but the time being, it seems to have fixed our issue. We will put it through its paces this summer. All in all, I would say if you're willing to use a zip tie, then it's a good product. But it's hard for me to fully recommend it without that caveat because you shouldn't have to immediately repair a new product. It will be a pain to clean the tube because we will have to carefully cut the ties to try and avoid damaging the tube... not ideal. And with all that said, I am not even positive the fix will last.

Great little backpack with bladder-challenge
25 July 2020

I bought this Mini Mule 50 oz in Atomic Blue/Navy Blazer for my bike rides. I am a slim girl so the size fits perfectly and the colour is beautiful. It has sternum strap and a quite comfortable isolating back paddingPros: There are 3 pockets (2 w zippers, one open top/ slightly expandable in between) and a back compartment for the bladder, pockets with space for the most essential bike items eg. ID & Insurance Card, Keys, Lip balm, Sharpie, small notebook, energy gel & blocks, Blackburn mini pump, X tubes, small wet wipes, mini First Aid kit, pocket tissues, mini roll toilet paper, face mask, Gore Wear shake dry rain jacket, extra sleeves. The outer pocket has a smaller net-pocket inside and key hook. Easy to put on.Cons: How it is made to store the 50 oz bladder, take it out for cleaning after each use (to avoid mould growth), refilling and then place it all back in again when the bladder is full. There is a “keep in place”- loop in the top to attach the upside down anchor shaped top part on the bladder. A strive to attach when bladder is full and it is a very tight fit to get a full bladder inside (50 oz or less). The bladder closure must be correctly in place before screwed on to avoid leakage! The tiny holes for the hose exit are placed under the top cover causing the hose to bend every time, and worse; the mouth piece to easily get ripped apart ($6 + tax a piece!) even with very careful handling. I wish the bladder had been in a compartment with 2 wrap flaps Instead. Irritating every time I clean & refill. Some of the other colours has great reflex covering a big part of the outer pocket, the Atomic Blue has just a tiny Camelbak reflex on top pocket, and a tiny band on the bottom of front the pocket. Conclusion: Great little backpack which is a bladder-challenge to clean, refill and place into its compartment.

Hiked with it in Yosemite

I'm 5'4 and 130lbs. I don't like carrying a lot of weight when I'm hiking so I bought this for a trip to Yosemite. I had all the straps at the ends, but it fit just fine and was the size I needed. I was able to fill the water bladder and carry and 42oz metal bottle in the net front part for the really long days when I needed plenty of water and it was perfect. If I didn't carry the water bottle, I would have been able to fit a light jacket or sandwich there. On our hikes a clipped car keys to a carabiner and put protein bars, wet wipes and my money/license in the pockets. It was definitely stretched, but it worked just fine! If all you need is 1.5 liters then this is great for a moderate day hike and it won't feel like you're stretching it out with the extra water. ... MoreI'm 5'4 and 130lbs. Not perfected for small hikers-still recommended

My 4 year old always wants to drink from my camelback, so he was beyond excited to get his own. We have done about 5 more serious hikes (as opposed to little strolls) with it and definitely have some feedback. First I would certainly purchase this again and recommend it for little ones who really want their own water on their back. The size is perfect and it seems to be very comfortable. He has just enough room to carry his own snacks, TP and a rain coat/layer. I am relatively disappointed in two main things that I was really surprised Camelback has not perfected yet. 1. This is the big one for me- it is SO hard to get the bladder back in once full. There is not enough space in the opening. He has just enough room to carry his own snacks, TP and a rain coat/layer. I am relatively disappointed in two main things that I was really surprised Camelback has not perfected yet. 1. This is the big one for me- it is SO hard to get the bladder back in once full. There is not enough space in the opening. Maybe you are supposed to fill it while inside the bag, but seriously how often does the gasket not sit quite right and water pours everywhere in any camelback reservoir. You have to be able to give the reservoir a squeeze and flip over the sink after you screw the top on to make sure you got it right. So if you do this, it is a struggle to get it back in and it makes me a little crazy every time. Doesn't affect my kiddo, so we can work with that. 2. There is no clip for the end of the straw. My Camelback pack has a sweet little magnet that always finds its way back so the straw isn't flying around. This tubing is relatively long and so when a little person sits down on their butt to scoot over rocks and steep terrain, the mouthpiece drags on the ground and through the dirt over and over again on a decent hike. It gets pretty gross. This is still not a deal breaker for us, but I hope the design gets improved in future versions.

This product is amazing, for a child. I bought this because of its compactness. The associate did not tell me it was for a kid. That being said, my son now has a camelpak now and loves it. The 1.5 liters is enough to keep him hydrated and doesn’t weigh too much. Plus the little pouch is big enough for all the rocks and leaves to stash away along the way.
