Or, I can't figure out how to do it...the wire stiffeners in the clip track have stops on the ends preventing the clip from being switched out. I prefer my hose to run along the left strap, but I guess I'll just have to get used to it being on the right.... Show more

The sternum strap has a tube hook and it's possible to put the hook on either side, though it can be hard to clip it back onto its railing when switching sides. My torso length is 21" and fit was fine - small pack on a long torso feels weird no matter what - no issue with sternum strap as it is adjustable and slides along railings in the shoulder straps. The pack does feel expensive for what it offers.... Much easier to use rather than any sort of rotating valve. I have not used this pak long enough to know how durable the water nipple will be.The water bag is a bit of a strange design. There is a built-in handle like that on a hairbrush that is attached to the collar around the water filling opening. The water fill lid is threaded and spins on. You have to be careful to make sure the lid is done up tight.Tip: If you don't fill the bag completely with water, lay the bag on a flat surface before closing the lid. Let the bag sag onto the surface so that all the air is out of the water bag and the water is almost spilling out. Then close the lid. If you don't do this, the bag will be bigger than necessary due to trapped air which takes away from storage space.... Show more

I have had a long history with CamelBak packs over the last few decades going back to the 90's. I have always been a fan of their products and this one is no different.Compared to the previous generation Classic, I found that the pack itself to feel a little lighter weight. The straps feel a little more breathable, and the pack in general feels a little better padded and more comfortable on the back. The outer material of the pack feels similar to a nylon windbreaker material, very light compared to the previous generation. I do question if that negatively impacts how well insulated it is on hot summer days. The quick-connect hose is also a nice feature on the newer model, making it very easy to clean and install the reservoir without the hose being in the way. On the downside, having the reservoir in a zippered pouch does make it more difficult to refill mid-activity than the previous generation which had a flap that covered the lid.Pros:Breathable straps and comfortable paddingLightweight pack materialQuick-connect hose is easy to cleanVery streamlined (more aero on the bike)Cons:Not as easy to refill as previous generationsReservoir is 15oz smaller than previous modelMight not be as well insulated... Great for half-day adventures
3 July 2021
I received this hydration pack in May but didn't have a chance to fully test it out until last week. I decided to wait until I could really put it through its paces for a thorough review instead of just a cursory look.To me, this pack is perfect for half-day adventures. If you're going on a full-day (or multi-day) epic, you're going to need more storage and more water. But for shorter trips, this has been great. With the bladder full, I managed to fit in bug spray, sunblock, a bike pump, my keys, and my id/credit card/cash clip. I appreciated the little details on the pack. The hanging loop for the bladder kept it from bunching up in the bottom of the bag. The padding on the straps and back did a good job of keeping me less sweaty (as much as could be expected on ... MoreI received this hydration pack in May but didn't have a chance to fully test it out until last week. I appreciated the little details on the pack. The hanging loop for the bladder kept it from bunching up in the bottom of the bag. The padding on the straps and back did a good job of keeping me less sweaty (as much as could be expected on a 95F day!). I liked having 2 separate compartments, and the clip for keys is nice for making sure they don't accidentally fall out when you're on a chairlift. The locking lever on the bite valve is great for making sure the pack doesn't leak when you toss it in the car or into a bigger backpack, and the disconnect for cleaning the tube will come in handy later on.I wore this pack while biking on a rail-trail, hiking around the Red River Gorge area in KY, and doing the Via Ferrata climb in that same area. I never felt encumbered by the straps and the pack sat nicely in place as I scrambled around. I did drink ALL of the water on one of the days (again, it was 95F) so if you think you need more volume, consider the larger size.My only complaint was that I could not see a way to move the clip for the tube from the right side over to the left side, but that isn't really a big deal - you just get used to having it on the right. To sum up - CamelBak paid good attention to details and made great design decisions to come up with a nearly-perfect pack for shorter adventures.... Love the pack, but the bladder leaks
27 April 2022
I love the color of this Camelbak. The front pocket is big enough for sunscreen, a wallet, keys, and minimal first aid kit. I was even able to strap a thin layer on with the bungees on the outside. HOWEVER, it has a major flaw.... LEAKING BLADDER. I have tried to use this pack twice now. First time heading out with it, I filled up the bladder, set it with my backpack, then noticed my pack was SOAKED when packing the car. I didn't have time to sort out the leak, so I left the Camelbak at home and took a trusty water bottle. Next time out with it, I filled the bladder up, applied pressure, didn't see any leaks, so I hit the trail. About 1/2 a mile in, my back was soaked with water. I couldn't figure out where the water was leaking from. Tried to dry it off, disconnected and reconnected the hose; no leaks, so started hiking again. Minutes later, water was dripping from the bottom! I dumped the water out and continued the hike without water. My hiking partner had some, so I was ok, just wet and cold in the wind from the leaking bladder. Back at home, I can't figure out where the leak is coming from. I won't use the bladder anymore. I do like the pack though. So... not sure it's worth the money, since I need to find a replacement bladder now. Great small pack though for short hikes.... Show more

Perfect Bike Pack
23 April 2021
Initial impression: Lightweight, compact, and ideal for those looking to hit the trail with a minimalist approach. Contains two zipper compartments, one main compartment for the hydration bladder, and a front/vertical zip-pocket perfect for a wallet, keys, and a phone. If you're looking to pack more like food or snacks, there's a small amount of room left in the main compartment with the hydration bladder.Use: Single-track mountain biking. The hydration pack/size was enough for my ride, which lasted about 2 hours. Any longer/further and I would have needed to carry additional water or find a location for refill. Additionally, the drinking straw has a locking mechanism at the end so water isn't leaking out of the end of the mouthpiece.Fit: Very light, with a snug ... MoreInitial impression: Lightweight, compact, and ideal for those looking to hit the trail with a minimalist approach. Straps are adjustable. For reference, I'm 5'8", 160 lbs, and typically wear a medium-sized unisex shirt. The pack didn't bounce around, and I hardly noticed it during drops or on rocky/bumpy terrain.I highly recommend this pack for mountain biking.... Show more

Really good hydration pack with a few issues.
10 May 2021
Overall I really like this pack. It does its job well, but has a few drawbacks.First, the good: This pack is really light. Like don't-even-know-you're-wearing-it-if-it's-empty light. Even with a full water reservoir it's pretty light. The water reservoir has a nice big opening for filling and one of the best features is a handle built into the opening that allows you to hold it with one hand while you fill and work the faucet with the other hand. The screw-on cap seals easily and is held on by a plastic strap so it's always handy and you can't loose it. Another great feature is the quick release drinking hose. It pops off the reservoir with a press of a lever and the pack doesn't leak with it off. Much easier to deal with cleaning with it off. And the drinking ... MoreOverall I really like this pack. It pops off the reservoir with a press of a lever and the pack doesn't leak with it off. Much easier to deal with cleaning with it off. And the drinking hose has a valve on it! I have an older hydration pack that constantly drips so this is a big plus for me.The bag itself has a big pocket for the reservoir (with a fabric loop that wraps around a hook at the top to keep the reservoir in place) that makes it easy to get it in and out and is big enough to hold a few other things. There's also an external pocket that will hold more stuff. It's not a large amount of storage, but it's enough for some snacks, a multitool, an extra tube and other small stuff. The straps keep it in place well; I haven't had any issues with it shifting on me. The padding that rests against your back is nice and comfortable. I'm not sure if it will be too warm against the back in the heat, but I don't think it will. Now for the not so good:The straps are uncomfortable. They are lightweight and mostly mesh, but I find that they dig into the front of my shoulders. With multiple layers on it's not too bad, but with only one layer it's quite uncomfortable. I do seem to get used to it after a few minutes, but I'm not sure it will be comfortable enough on really long rides (I've only used to for about 90 minutes continuously so far). The worst part about the pack is drying the reservoir. This is a problem with every hydration pack I've used. To air dry it you need to stuff something in there that will hold it open. I usually use a tall water bottle. They do sell a plastic part that will do this, but really shouldn't that be included rather than a twelve dollar add-on? The hose is also tricky to get all the water out of and dried thoroughly. There are also a couple features listed that I can't figure out. There is a "helmet carry" feature which allows you to attach your helmet to the pack when you're not wearing it. But I can't figure out how that's supposed to work. And there are no instructions with the pack or online to show how to use it. There also claims to be "integrated tool organization". The only thing I can figure out here is that there is a pocket and inside the pocket is a small plastic carabiner style hook sewn in. It would be useful for keys, but it's not exactly "integrated tool organization".But, as I said initially it's a good pack and I'm happy I got it.... Show more

Rogue Camelback
19 July 2022
Its a Rogue and if you have used one then you know it is best for water and not carrying a lot of gear. It does have a side zipper with a key clip and room for a wallet or phone. In addition it does have an open compartment that is accessed from the top through a slot that does not positively close, I wish it did.The way the water bladder is held in place is a huge improvement over my last and the opening screw lid seems to work much better, seals great and stays attached to the bladder when filling with liquid. The shoulder strap and size of the overall pack is smaller than the older style and is not as comfortable but still for carrying something on your back it is fine and probably much more comfortable than the larger ones.I was not looking for a pack to ... MoreIts a Rogue and if you have used one then you know it is best for water and not carrying a lot of gear. I think it could have held three things secure and still maintain its small size.... Show more

Very average

The pack is a nice size and a nice color (matches my mountain bike color exactly). I can fit a fair number of items in it for mt biking, or even hiking with my dog and carrying his collapsable water bowl. But that is the extent of the good features. The straps are not comfortable with some kind of hard piping that makes them very stiff, which dig into my armpit area, no matter how loose or tight I adjust. The hose is only held in place by one clip and the end hose bounces terribly while riding. A big pet peeve of mine. The ends of the adjustable straps are very long and there does not seem to be a spot to tuck them or clip them up, so they just flap in the wind, looking ridiculous. Maybe someone smarter than me knows how to fix this. The bladder has a big round ... MoreThe pack is a nice size and a nice color (matches my mountain bike color exactly). Maybe someone smarter than me knows how to fix this. The bladder has a big round twist-off opening with a large plastic handle which is not easy or convenient to empty or refill. And is just so much unnecessary heaviness in an athletic pack. The top-loading bladders with the small clip to hold them closed are far, far superior. While the pack can fit a number of items, none of it is accessible while the pack is on and requires full removal of the pack to grab anything out of it.And on a final note, whilst writing this review, I had the pack sitting next to me on the table and unbeknownst to me, the pack was leaking water all over the table due to the big round twist top being slightly twisted incorrectly. Not an easy twist on/off lid. Camelback, please change up your bladder design!.... Show more
