I dislike leaving this type of review, but it needs to be said so others/potential owners have an idea of what they may experience as what I have went through.I took the plunge and spent my hard earned cash on a pellet grill few weeks ago as I've always wanted the freedom to enjoy the party and instead of babying the grill. I chose to get the Camp Chef (Woodwind 36-Wifi) after researching and reading mostly positive reviews as well as recommendations from friends and family who have a Camp Chef themselves. It offered best bang for your buck and has a great modular design to suit your needs (i.e sidekick attachments, etc) I ordered one on the official Camp Chef site taking advantage of the deal and had no issues.Upon receiving the unit from FedEx however I ... Found the unit was bent on one of the corners where the lid opens, but I told myself I could live with it. No biggie as long as it works. Moving on to the manual that's where it gets confusing. If you think you know how to assemble this unit blindly? Think again. The manual really needs an overhaul to make it more user friendly as some instructions are either confusing or the example diagram is too small to follow. I believe they attempted to save on printing material and included info for the smaller grill (24) along with the larger (36) grill which made it worse trying to figure out how to assemble the unit.1) It should include a full list of parts instead of a small diagram showing the parts. It should be modeled after a quick guide/furniture assemble manual. Simple and concise. It would also provide the customer a chance to go through the parts to see if there are any hardware parts missing before assembly. More on this below. As I was assembling the unit one of the leg didn't have the nutserts to insert the bolt. Luckily it was only missing on one leg and a quick chat with support sorted it out. No biggie I told myself. However, that was the only beginning as I continued to assemble I noticed the deflector that rides on the two bars was incorrectly assembled in the wrong orientation. No biggie its easy to removed the 4 screws for the two bars on each end and rotated it in the correct position and re-installed the 4 screws. At this point I asked myself why would I need to do this with a brand new product? It only got worst as the screws for the lid on the hopper was missing from the hardware bag. A quick lookup and my local hardware store had them. Ok no, biggie, but later found out during the final assembly that the self tapping screws were also missing (6) six of them. Without it you wouldn't be able to attach the probe, hopper, or block cover for the thermometer. On each of the occasion I had to make two trips total to my local hardware store. Could not wait for support to send the remaining parts as I had already made plans to host friends and family. As for the operation of the unit? With my limited time I can't say for certain how it will hold-up and I will update this review accordingly as I have more time with this grill..

Just delivered Jan 11th. Item was packaged nicely. However, quality assurance is definitely lacking as I am missing hardware. I am missing 6 6m x 15 black bolts as well as 6 4.2 screws for the thermometer, plate, and burner mount. Also to note the handle for the lid is also an issue. The nuts on the handle are suppose to be secured in order to tighten for install. Unfortunately one of the nuts just spins and therefore will not tighten properly. This is completely unacceptable for an item that cost as much as this does. I will give an updated review once I am able to use the product. I am hoping that will be a better experience than the assembly.

I purchased this grill with high hopes. I've owned it for 2 years and the amount of rust and paint peeling on this thing is mind-blowing. I kept it covered and clean as well as never overheated it, but the materials are really sub par. Getting my grill started is sometimes a colossal time suck as well because the controller requires that things are done a specific way, otherwise you have to start all over. As for the cooking, I've been smoking for years and for some reason this grill dries out meat pretty quickly if you're not very careful. It also doesn't deliver anywhere near the smoky flavor I imagined it would. I had to buy a separate smoke tube to try and add more smoke to my cooks. I do like the wifi connectivity, which is the best feature. I'm just very ... MoreI purchased this grill with high hopes. I upgraded to this from an older 24" woodwind that I enjoyed for a long time. While this larger model is capable of turning out good BBQ, there were some significant QC issues you should all be aware of.1. The temperature at the grate has a LOT more variation from left-to-right than the 24" model. This is partly because the firebox and temp probe are place toward the left side, rather than in the center. So the right side of the grill is way colder than the temperature you have set. I have to set the temp ~40 degrees higher for the right side of the grill to be usable.2. Camp chef has not included a way to adjust the grill temp offset from the probe, which is IMO an essential feature. I could correct for issue #1 if there was a way to adjust the offset. They ... Camp chef has not included a way to adjust the grill temp offset from the probe, which is IMO an essential feature. I could correct for issue #1 if there was a way to adjust the offset. They need to include this in a software update to the controller. It isn't hard.3. The firebox and the grill body ship separately and there is a LOT of assembly required, and it is not very user friendly. Camp chef should include alignment pins/tabs that make this assembly easier. As it is now, you have to tip the very heavy grill over several times.4. All of the included screws were made of very soft material and the heads stripped extremely easily. This is a stupid place to cut back on quality and they should be using quality stainless screws. If I every have to replace a part, I may be out of luck since many of the screws are now stripped and will be hard to remove.5. They included either the wrong bolts or wrong legs with my grill, and the bottom shelf could not be attached. I emailed them and they have yet to respond. I had to buy my own bolts at the hardware store to attach the shelf.6. By this point, they should be including a gasket for the grill lid. Very leaky and another silly thing to cut corners on.In all, this is still a good grill and a good value, and it can produce some very tasty results. But think twice about this larger model unless you are sure you need a LOT of grill space. For most, the 24" woodwind model is far easier to assemble, big enough, and needs less fuss and less learning out of the box. My #1 request for camp chef would be to include a temperature offset function in the controller settings so that users can calibrate the grill to their desired cooking position. This is an essential feature. My #2 request is to stop cheaping out on the bolts. Include quality stainless steel fasteners and you will have happier customers and less returns. That has to be worth the 50 cents you saved on these cheap bolts. #3 if you are going to make customers assemble the firebox into the unit, include some tabs so that this can be done with the grill in the standing position by a single person.
I bought this about a month ago and was very excited to upgrade to such a nice large (expensive) smoker. However, upon assembly I noticed that the lid did not seem to be sitting right when it was closed. It is either bent or the hinges are misaligned. I hoped it would be fine but upon first startup I was losing a considerable amount of smoke from the bottom of the lid along with some wide temp fluctuations. I contacted customer support who was very helpful at first and recommended I try taking the lid off the hinges and back on. As I did this I realized that it was already all the way towards the direction it would need to go for the door to sit right. I tried anyway to no avail. I even applied a grill gasket to the edges and had the same problem. It has been over a ... I did a ton of research when first deciding that I wanted a pellet grill. After months of watching videos and researching websites, I settled on the CC Woodwind Wifi 36. It was my 40th birthday party and my wife surprised me with the gill. I was super excited but when I first opened the box it looked like it was dropped 10 times because there was an unbelievable amount of damage to it. First problem: Their shipping methods through FedEx. After having to put in a claim with pictures and a form, I received my replacement about two weeks later with no damage. Got it all set up and have loved all the cooks I have done on my new grill. It is amazing but.... Second problem: The WIFI never works. Got it all set up and have loved all the cooks I have done on my new grill. It is amazing but.... Second problem: The WIFI never works. I connected right away for my first cook and have had issues ever since. I called customer service, re-installed the app, and everything else at their direction but can still not connect when I am more than a specific distance from the grill. I can connect via Bluetooth and when I am within 20 feet of my grill it shows that I am actively connected to the wifi but as soon as I go halfway into my house it loses connection. I first I felt like this is a glorified blue-tooth grill that is being advertised as a wifi grill. I'm sorry but a wifi grill should allow you to see your temps and control them from miles away. That is the point of wifi. Regardless of my experience with the first box being damaged, I would easily have given this grill a 4-5 star rating if it wasn't for the wifi issue. That being said, Camp Chef customer service has been really great and they are sending me out a new PID controller because they believe I have an antenna issue. According to them, this has true wifi capabilities and you should be able to read your temps from anywhere. We will see. If that is the case and the new controller works, I will change my review but cannot give it 5 stars since it has literally taken me almost a full month + to get a $1200 grill to use with no issues. Fingers crossed.
I received the Camp Chef Woodwind 36 for an early Fathers Day gift. I had been looking at a number of pellet smokers and decided on the Camp Chef based on a friends experience and some of my own research.Building the unit took about an hour and a half, and though the instructions weren't completely clear, it was pretty easy to figure out.Per the instructions I did a 30min startup burn, which went smoothly. The following day I inspected the grill and was disappointed to find the following:- Paint peel from the bar which moves the over on the burn box- Silver coating peeling from the bar the burn box slides over- A screw missing from the lid (which can installed from the factory)The screw I can forgive if it was the sole issue, but the peeling paint is ... I send the requested information thinking I can get the parts and be good to go for my Memorial day cook out, crickets. So now heading into my Birthday weekend, followed shortly by Fourth of July and pretty much half way through the season and still no response, no part, no nothing! If there was a ratings less than one star, I'd at about a negative two right now. I paid about $1,500-1,600 dollars for the package I bought almost a year ago and have gotten one cook out of it.
Excellent smoker! Very well constructed and appears to be purposely thought out from a practical standpoint. Functions on point and is intuitively easier to operate that my previous smoke from a different manufacturer. Upon arrival the box looked as if it had stormed the beaches of Normandy, but despite a box with a hole big enough to put my fist through the smoker arrived intact and in pretty good condition. I would have given this product 5 stars except I feel the directions could have been a little easier to understand, and I was missing a few bolts. However that being said it got put together in an appropriate amount of time, and Camp Chef's customer service knocked it out of the park when I contacted them about the issue. The features on this cooker are 2nd to none. I've performed extensive research prior to making this purchase. The pellet fire pot cleanout and heat diffuser pull rods are pure genius. The smoke setting again pure genius. Once I wrap the protein I dial back the smoke to (1) saving pallet usage. The full color display is cutting edge (no 1990's block LED numbers here) and new features "night-mode" offsetting the display with dark colors. 4 independant meat probes and being able to title them and set individual cook done alarms is again genius and well thought out. (via the app). Now lets talk about the sidekick!!! This modular system is again pure genius. My pizza oven is arriving soon. The jerky racks are a must for jerky and adds tons of usable space that i use for chicken parts as well. (the pastrami jerky turned out amazing.) Once your friends see the cookers features, app integration and add-ons they'll be green with envy.My only mod so far... Drilled out the "meat probe" access hole to allow the "plug end" to pass through the hole when wrapping the protein/probe in foil on the prep table. So happy with my purchase and Thank You to the entire Camp Chef Team for designing the best dual purpose cooker on the market.
