Canon 18x50 Is Binoculars
The canon 18x50 is binocular delivers truly outstanding optical performance and a well-stabilized, high-magnification view. Whether upon the water''s edge enjoying a boat race or high in a stadium''s uppermost deck, the 18x50 is puts you right in the middle of the action with extreme intimacy. The 18x50 is binocular''s great for big game hunters, spectators of extremely distant sports such as surfing or extreme skiing, or anyone hunkering for incredible pulling power that can actually be enjoyed without the use of a tripod. It is a water resistant design and also has a tripod socket, as extended periods of observation are best enjoyed with some form of support. The 18x50 is was not designed to be habitually worn around the neck, but if you prefer to carry your optic in this manner then consider a thick neoprene strap instead of the supplied flat woven strap. If you''ll be using the binocular in cold weather, it is highly recommended to use lithium batteries instead of alkaline. The 18x50 is is threaded to accept 58mm filters, which is convenient for using polarizers around water, but it also means that during extremely bright or humid conditions you can use a pair of 58mm lens hoods to help shield the objective lenses from dew and stray light and thus improve contrast.

I give the binoculars 5 Stars: the image stabilization is phenomenal as is the image quality. What I don't care for is that I bought pair of Nikon Monarchs that just feel like they are better quality. The Nikons came with 4 lens covers (pair for the ocular and optical lens) that stay attached when removed, the EXPENSIVE Canon came with only 1 pair for the ocular lens that only fully remove, so they could be lost. I also worry about the rubbery grips on the Canon that have been blasted for longevity. Only time will tell how long mine last. Not sure if it's in my head, but I can see how that material can diminish.Did I mention the IS is fantastic?! It is. THE binoculars are great, but there are many things that my lesser expensive NIKON's did much better.

I’ve had these binoculars for a couple of years now and absolutely love them! If all of my observation equipment, I use these more than anything else. I can easily take them anywhere and I frequently use them to identify objects to look at later with a telescope. The image stabilization feature is fantastic and word very well so that I can easily get away with the 18x magnification. The glass is clear without any aberration providing a crisp clear view. Love them!

My very first IS binos. Absolutely incredible. These units are high power so would be worthless without IS or a tripod and a tripod would be a detriment to functionality. I was so impresses that I bought the 12x36 version for my bird watcher wife. She's even more impressed than I am. There are many negative comments about the rubber coating turning to goo after a period. I hope this does not occur obviously but that would be the ONLY thing I could complain about. I have top end Nikon, Boush & Lomb, and Swarovski binos. These out perform them all.

I recently purchased these 18.50 binoculars. I read many reviews about astronomy binoculars and knew I had to have high power with stabilization. My first choice was the Canon 15x50 due to several reviews stating that the 18x was too much magnification for hand held use.I have a RRS monopod so changed my mind to the 18s.I am so glad I went with the 18x50s as I have NO trouble with them hand held (age 73). The stabilization is the best I have ever experienced. I own many Nikon camera lenses that do not stabilize as well as these binoculars. My opinion is: If you are looking for a great pair of binoculars for astronomy, birding, nature or whatever, do not be afraid of the 18x, you wont look back.LouPS B&H is the best!
Wow! I was so happy that I thought to rent these incredible binoculars before going on a two-week trip to Tanzania with my younger daughter. They were so helpful while in the Serengeti in search of so many animal sightings.Lensrentals was a great company to work with as well. Very professional and responsive as needed. Thanks so much for making this such a good experience!
These have been around for a long time, and I'm guessing Canon have improved the optics over the years (like using better coating, etc.).It's something technology oriented companies do, especially in Japan (called Continuous Quality Improvement - CQI).They are very sharp, edge to edge (flat image), no purple fringing (except maybe slightly at the edges), no ghosting, good colour reproduction, decent contrast, minimal distortion etc. It's really difficult to complain about the optical performance.Yes, they are not as bright as Swarovski, and offer narrower field of view, but it's not a fair comparison.Unfortunately the IS wasn't updated over time, since I assume it will require a complete redesign of the binoculars; so the result is not impressive; they only ... MoreThese have been around for a long time, and I'm guessing Canon have improved the optics over the years (like using better coating, etc.).It's something technology oriented companies do, especially in Japan (called Continuous Quality Improvement - CQI).They are very sharp, edge to edge (flat image), no purple fringing (except maybe slightly at the edges), no ghosting, good colour reproduction, decent contrast, minimal distortion etc. It's really difficult to complain about the optical performance.Yes, they are not as bright as Swarovski, and offer narrower field of view, but it's not a fair comparison.Unfortunately the IS wasn't updated over time, since I assume it will require a complete redesign of the binoculars; so the result is not impressive; they only compensate for small shakes; modern IS binoculars can do 2-3 degrees but these only around 0.7 degrees. It's still effective, and helps a lot, especially with the 16X magnification, but I do wish they had more effective IS.Build quality is superb!Focusing knob is large, very smooth and accurate. The infamous rubber eyecups are not as bad as people say.Lastly, they are not fully waterproof, they can still be used in the rain, but they are not at the level of other modern binoculars, which are not only IPX7 sealed but also have Nitrogen gas inside that prevents fogging. So overall, they are a mix of fantastic optics, superb build quality, proven reliable design, but lack modern features like better stabilization, being complete waterproof, and fog proof. It's only a matter of intended use whether to get these or other IS binoculars; the superb 18X/50mm optics is a huge plus for sure, but using these on a mobile platform, or a boat or at extreme weather conditions can be more challenging.
The image stabilization does a great job, and Canon makes a quality product. Certainly the best binoculars I've ever owned, but for the price, it better be! The capabilities of image stabilized binoculars certainly make them worthwhile, however, the significant weight should not be overlooked. Your arms can get tired quickly. The provided carrying case and eyecup covers are disappointing. The caps don't stay on well, and the soft case is inadequate for the valuable cargo it carries. Additionally, the objective lenses do not come with caps and the price for Canon caps that fit is exhorbitant. As far as the binoculars themselves, the one thing I wish they had was a separate mechanical power switch that disables the IS enable button like that found on the Nikon IS ... MoreThe image stabilization does a great job, and Canon makes a quality product. In the soft-side pouch provided, it is too easy to turn the power on and waste five minutes worth of batteries just by picking up the case.
I bought these for a hunting in Alaska. We have a 10x Canon IS we bought about 17 years ago to use on our recreational Trawler, and they were great. When I saw these, they immediately went on my wish list. I'm extremely satisfied with the 18x50 IS. Just know, to carry these and a spotting scope is redundant. And if on a mountain hunt, you'd probably not want the extra weight, these do have some mass and are considerably heavier than their 10x. But, if you aren't carrying these on a pack trip, I think you'd be very happy with the clarity and the stabilization function, and would recommend the purchase. The challenge for me is, I carry a large handgun in a chest rig for bear protection and ease of flying my bushplane, trying to find a way to stow them for easy access ... MoreI bought these for a hunting in Alaska. I get great views for astronomy and bird watching. Images are wonderfully stabilized, which makes a PHENOMENAL difference. Field of view is not too narrow for finding celestial objects. The stabilization kicks in almost instantly when first I bring them to my face and then press the button as opposed to leaving IS on all the time and drawing the binoculars to my eyes while it is already running (in the latter case, it needs a good five seconds to settle in).Regarding the weight: some say they're too heavy, others don't. The binoculars weigh 1180 grams, or 2.6 pounds, so go to the grocery store, use the produce scale, and find a melon or squash of that weight. Hold it up to your face. Don't pay attention to (or write) meaningless reviews about the weight. The ... MoreI get great views for astronomy and bird watching. The weight is understandably higher than conventional binoculars, but not much considering the much higher magnification and necessary image stabilization feature. The image stabilization is sweet. On the less than positive side, the included case is a joke, no rear lens caps are included, and the diopter adjustment is awkward compared to adjustments on more conventional binoculars. Small hands might find them somewhat awkward to handle. I can't complain too much about the high price, since they're the best in their class.
