Buy Canon! Don't buy the 3rd party adapters!

When I was using the Viltrox, there were many communication issues. The OS on my Sigma 150-600mm may or may not come on. If it didn't, I would have to toggle the switch between OS and off again. Likewise for shooting distance, I had to specify the range because FULL would not work. Eventually, after a few months of use the connection with the lens even became loose and it was giving me error readings. And now? And B&H has been absolutely excellent and lightning fast with the shipping. Hope that helps.

This canon adapter has made it possible for me to use all of my lenses I have on my mirrorless camera body. The adapter firmly slides and connects to the RF mount on the canon body. The EF/EF-S lenses also attached pretty firm and snug, I haven't had any extra movement in my lenses while they are attached the the adapter. I haven't had any problems of communication between all of the camera and the lenses either. This adapter is definitely worth getting if people plan to upgrade cameras but don't plan to upgrade their lenses to the next gen RF mount.

Great Purchase Option
17 May 2022

I recently purchased the Canon EOS R5 and wanted to wait to purchase the right RF lenses, so I purchased the adapter to use my current EF & EF-S glass in the meantime. When comparing this basic mount adapter to the adapter with the control ring, I chose to keep it simple. I decided I didn't need all the bells and whistles this time around, and I am very happy with the simplicity of this adapter. I plan on purchasing RF glass from here on out anyhow, and I would rather invest in the lenses than the upgraded adapter with a control ring. If you are someone who has a large collection of EF glass, then you may benefit from the control ring; however, if you are looking to spend less, the basic adapter is perfect and will compliment your needs just fine. It is easy to attach to both the lens and camera mount, and it is lightweight. I also received this lightning fast; shipping through B&H is always so impressive! I ordered my camera body through Canon, and the next day I realized that I needed the adapter and CFexpress cards. I went online to B&H to order the card and adapter, and I received both in time before my camera arrived. I love this company, and I always have an absolutely positive experience with all my purchases.

Of course this item is very necessary to be able to utilize my EF lenses with my RF camera. But I am pleased it works so well. My lenses have never rendered like they do with these new mirrorless cameras. As always, B&H does a wonderful job on getting the item out and to you safely. Receive something from Amazon, maybe a piece of bubble wrap. Receive a package from B&H like it was your grandmother's ashes. It's a win, win, even for a UPS driver. Thanks B&H.

Keeps my E series lenses relevant
15 December 2022

I bought this converter to go with my R6 Mk II. I've used it with my Sigma 150-600 contemporary mounted on it and it all works great! I have two lenses that I really wanted to make sure I was able to use when I switched to mirrorless. The Sigma and my Canon f2.8L 70-200 IS USM (original flavor). Yeah, they're both heavy and there are newer options, but they are also pretty expensive things to swap out for a hobbyist, and I'm emotionally attached to them. This converter does the job totally. Focus, metering, everything is just great. And still fast.

Simple, But Effective

There's not much to the Mount Adapter's design. It's a short metal tube, built to similar specifications as the EOS R. The exterior is metal and the adapter protects your camera and lens from dust and splashes. It doesn't have a tripod foot, which is a concern if you plan on using large, heavy lenses which don't include their own tripod mount. But none of Canon's adapters have a tripod socket. It measures 0.9 by 2.8 inches (HD), weighs 3.9 ounces, and is finished in basic black. The rear connects to an RF-mount camera, the same as an RF lens, and the front accommodates an EF or EF-S SLR lens. While EF-S lenses don't cover a full-frame sensor, they are handy for video with the EOS R, as its 4K system uses only a small area of its image sensor. The adapter works ... MoreThere's not much to the Mount Adapter's design. I can't think of a better thing to write about an adapter—transparency in operation is what you want when using non-native lenses with a mirrorless system. At just less than $100, the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is a no-brainer purchase for photographers buying the EOS R. If you already have an investment in EF lenses, it will let you use them without any drawbacks with an RF camera body. If you don't already own the lenses, but you've decided on the EOS R, it makes it possible to supplement the rather limited selection of lenses currently available. Either way, it's an almost essential accessory for the EOS R.There are other adapters to consider. The $200 Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is essentially the same device, but with a programmable control ring, just like you find on RF lenses. If you love the feature, you may find it worth the additional cost.

Trying to save money on this is counter productive

I own two Canon R5 cameras. I love the fact that I can use all of my EF mount lenses with them and that, by buying lens adapters containing polarizers or variable neutral density filters, I can use one set of filters to fit all of my EF lenses without regard to the size of their objective lenses. However, I resented Canon's charging $100 for its unfiltered EF-EOS R adapter, when other companies were offering similar devices for considerably less. It was still working, despite significant gaps, but I was confident that, before long, I would have to replace it. In the mean time, were I to go on using it, it would likely fail at an inconvenient time.I should have known: One gets what he pays for. I wish I had bought two of these to begin with. The way it was, I had to wait for B&H to get more of the Canon adapters in stock, before I could replace the third party substitute.Don't make my mistake, $100 is a small price to pay for Canon's quality!

Works great with my existing lenses
23 November 2022

I recently purchased an EOS R7 and debated on which adapter I needed for my existing L lenses--money is a consideration in my world. I read a variety of reviews and comparisons but ultimately decided I just couldn't justify the price difference and so far, I am not disappointed in my purchase. This does add a bit of weight to the overall setup, but really no different than my previous 7D with a 70-200 2.8. That is my most used lens for sports and wildlife photography and I look forward to learning more about the operations of my new camera.

Works perfectly
21 June 2022

I have had a 3rd-party adapter ring on my R5 since I bought it in September 2021. The camera exhibited a wide range of weird behavior during this time, including heavy battery drain even when turned off, lock-ups that could only be cleared by removing the battery, etc. I had a crazy idea that maybe the adapter ring was the culprit, so I bought the Canon ring just to give it a try.Bingo. All the problems went away immediately. The Canon ring works perfectly, the images are sharp, and now the camera is working properly as well. Lesson learned: no more 3rd-party adapter rings!
