I purchased this lenses for my old DLSR 40D & 60D for daily use. It is very light and comfortable to carry. Images captured is fairly good. The focusing is very quiet, almost no sound.

This is a fine general purpose wide-to-tele lens with good, everyday, basic performance. There is nothing wrong with this being the kit lens. It does a good job for the price and is reasonably quick to focus accurately, being quite reliable over long periods of use. Too many reviewers criticize this lens for what it is not - and that is misplaced because it does not purport to be something it is not. For example: It is NOT a macro lens. It is NOT not a super wide or long telephoto lens. It is NOT a professional lens. It is NOT the best lens for shooting video where you must refocus during the take.IT IS, however, a decent, all around basic wide-to-tele zoom lens for everyday use. It shoots close enough to capture details on smaller objects such as flowers and watches and other small items. It is perfect for shooting most items for sale on eBay and online auction sites. It shoots wide enough you do not have to run too far back to capture a whole church, and it tele-zooms just enough to capture most architectural details, such as those fascinating gargoyles up high on the front of the church. A good, all purpose, general lens. If you need a pro level lens, or wider or longer range, then buy another lens, but keep this in your lens bag for general, all around daily use. I know it sounds buff and macho to dismiss it as the cheap kit lens - but it really does a good job - and while it is fairly inexpensive to make and include in the package, Canon really does not include a junk lens with the kit - just a general purpose, good (not highest) quality lens for most folks. If you need better, buy better. Otherwise, this is a wonderful bargain - especially if you buy one used or in a white box removed from kit for a discount. Just another tool in the box for general use - nothing wrong with that. Just MY take. JR

"I recently purchased a camera lens from Ecex, and I couldn't be happier with the quality. The images are incredibly sharp, and the lens exceeded my expectations. It's a fantastic addition to my photography gear, and I highly recommend it to fellow enthusiasts!
It's a perfect entry level lens, that is far superior to the Canon stock 55mm. I have read a lot of complaints about the noise that the step motor makes, but it was so quiet that I thought that it wasn't working. I could see visually, that it was continuously adjusting the focus...brilliantly.
I bought this about a month or so ago, the pick-up process was quite smooth and easy. Also the lens was in pristine condition and shape. Love the basic kit lens because of how versatile it is. I’m definitely happy with my purchase
I am completely new to CEX, and have to say how impressed I am with the whole experience of buying and selling with them. I had a camera that had been unused for a couple of years and no longer met my needs. CEX offered a very good price on line, but I opted to sell in store to save packaging etc. The staff in store at Telford were fab, really friendly and honored the online offer. So after some testing was offered cash or a voucher for an extra 15 quid, I opted for a voucher as I'd already spotted something on line that I wanted. Went home happy and ordered the lens that I'd spotted, it was a very straightforward on line transaction needing only a voucher number inputting along with a payment for the surplus. The lens arrived a couple of days later, in some of the most heavy duty packaging I'd seen. The item was exactly as described, or maybe a little better, it works exactly as it should and has no real signs of use. So impressed with this company. I prefer to avoid ebay etc when I can and this lot are a real superior alternative with staff who know their onions, and items with proper guarantees, not to mention the competitive pricing.I'll definitely use CEX again and recommend them to anyone.
This is cheap lens made in Taiwan and marked as "Canon". All plastic, VERY light. The front bayonet for a sun-shade is so bad that an original Canon sun-shade will not fit! The "manual focus" is a joke: will only rotate and adjust focus for 20-30 degrees; impossible to find the focus. Very rough edges of the lenses. It is more like an "imitation lens" than a real one. Shipping was free and fast (expedited) and this account probably for 80% of the price you pay...the rest is for the lens. No box at all, just a plastic bag and bubble wrap.
Typically I'm not a huge fan of 18-55 kit lenses, as they don't have the best the image quality, and generally have a limited zoom range with no benefits besides price. However, with the IS in this lens, pretty good autofocus, and decently sharp image quality, it's hard to not to recommend this lens. I wish the manual focus ring was easier to use, but overall it is a good deal for the price.
First off, I understand my review is biased because I bought this used for around $60 USD with the intention of hacking it. I made it compatible with standard EF mount so that I could use with an EF to M43 speedbooster on a panasonic GH4. There are two things I hoped to gain from this. First, I wanted a lens for M43 format that had a good range around 16-18mm (32-36 equivalent). Second, I wanted lens stabilization because the GH4 has no stabilization. All I can say is that this is my new favorite lens to use. After making the mount compatible with the speedbooster, The new specs are roughly 13-39mm F2.5-4. All electronics are functional (IS, AF). For the money, this beats purchasing the nearly $1000 17.5mm Voigtlander Nokton for M43 (which i was seriously considering). Again, my review isn't helpful for all, but I love this thing on my GH4 now.
