A Huge Step Up from Original 5D

Since the 5D Mk IV crops for 4K video, I don't feel like I'm missing out too much there. The biggest things that drew me to the 6D Mk II over the 5D Mk IV were the articulating touch screen, the smaller size and lighter weight, and the far lower cost not just of the body, but of the battery grip as well. While it's slightly less resolution than the 5D Mk IV, it's still loads better than the original 5D, which I only recently retired, and even that old thing gave me great 20x30 prints from its 12.8 megapixel sensor. The 6D Mk II has more than twice the resolution, so that's more than ample. It works great with my existing ST-E2 transmitter and 430EX ane EX II Speelites, but I also decided to add the ST-E3 RT transmitter and 430EX III-RT flashes to my kit, and since the flashes can also work with the optical system employed by the ST-E2 transmitter, and the 6D Mk II works equally well with both systems, I simply can't find any faults with it on the external, portable lighting front. It's only 1/2 a frame slower per second than the 5D Mk IV (6.5fps vs 7 fps), and since it shoots video with the full frame of the sensor, lenses work as well with video as they do with still shots, so even just having 1080p video is preferable for me to cropped 4K video.I cannot express enough how thrilled I am by the articulating touch screen. With live view and tap-to-focus/shoot, I no longer have to use an awkward angle finder for low and other odd angles. This will be especially useful in my portrait, art, and macro photography. Also, the focus tracking in live view is much better than what I've traditionally gotten from using the optical viewfinder. Once I lock focus on a face or other moving subject, it is really good at following the subject around, which makes photographing kids and pets far easier.Speaking of, one of my biggest issues with the 5D and other cameras was the requirement to press buttons and turn dials to change the focusing mode from single to servo while shooting events like weddings. Being able to set the AF-START button on the back of the camera to turn on servo focusing while pressed, then switching back to single focus when released has already proven to be an enormous help. Finally, on image quality, it's every bit as good at that of my trusty old 5D, only much higher resolution. It even helped me better see some of the limitations of a couple of my lenses, because it can record so much more detail. Noise and acceptable even in the shadow areas at lower ISOs, and its much higher ISOs are impressively controlled where noise is concerned. I've even found myself keeping it set to auto ISO for all but the most critical images, and that's always been a huge no-no for commercial work.I've read many a form in which people say that the 6D Mk II is only for advanced amateurs or enthusiasts, not for professional photographers, but I'm here to tell you that I am perfectly happy with everything I'm able to do with it, and I've been doing this for a very long time. Especially given its much lower price compared with the 5D Mk IV, I have no qualms about recommending it to anyone for just about any purpose. And, if you just want a great, all-around street photography rig, use those extra savings in getting the 6D Mk II to pick up a Sigma 20mm f/1.4 lens to go with it.

Excellent full frame camera
2 March 2023

Great camera purchased when a general discount applied alongside a Canon cashback promotion. It has now returned to the price before the discount and cash back, but I would say it is still worth the money.I have been using Canon Digital DSLR cameras since the 10D so when the opportunity, to purchase a full frame 6DMK2 at what I considered a bargain price, it proved too good to miss.Coupled with the Canon 100-400 L series MK2 lens the quality of pictures is excellent. I am interested in aviation, railway and wildlife photography.Previously I have been using the APS-C Canon 7DMK2 which is a great camera but the pictures from the 6DMK2 are just fantastic. Even with high ISO the results are better than I was expecting.

Fun to use!

I got this as a used but close to new product for a well discounted price. The thing with that was that I had to delete all the nutso settings that the last guy had put into the camera before I could really figure out how to set it up for myself. C'mon man, delete that stuff when you sell a camera. Luckily, what with the neat and easy to use menu system, returning the unit to factory specs wasn't all that difficult. Once that was done I tried the camera with a bunch of different lenses using an EF to R adapter. I used some pretty nice and pretty pricey lenses. It was okay. Everything worked perfectly but I just wasn't satisfied. Finally, the genuine 24-105mm R series lens that I had ordered arrived. Everything worked perfectly but I just wasn't satisfied. Finally, the genuine 24-105mm R series lens that I had ordered arrived. Now that lens was only the lower priced STM unit, not the fancy USM job. Still, everything came together. All this happened over a couple of days when my area was hit with a Bomb Cyclone. Rain, high winds, dark skies, it was miserable. I couldn't go out and photo little birds or flowers or landscapes or anything. I was stuck taking shots inside the house. That's not how you want to test a camera. Then the power went out for over 17 hours. C'mon man, that's just ridiculous. So I took the two attached shots on an evening in my old, dark house with the shutters blowing and the wind howling. I barely knew how to use the darn camera. I'm sold. Get one. They're fun and once you clear out the nutso settings from the last guy, they're easy to use. The dang menu programs lead you by the hand. It's very nicely set up. With a fancy new tech mirrorless you expect a maze of confusing dead ends. Not the case. Check it out.

Great Camera
15 May 2023

Paired this camera with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM for taking photos of high school outdoor sports (lacrosse). I also took photos with the same lens on my Canon 90d. Although a little "slower", the full-frame 6D Mark II was a nice surprise, showing slightly more sharpness and better color with it's increased dynamic range. The unit I received was a bit "well loved" I feel for the purchase price of $900 (I was considering buying after renting). The fold-out rotating screen would not completely close, and 3 of the buttons were a little "slushy" from heavy use, including the shutter button. Overall, the camera did take excellent photos, but I returned it instead of making the purchase.

Great Image Quality, Poor Face Tracking
4 March 2023

Ive rented this camera twice now and it's my dream camera in almost every way. I own the 90D and the sharpness of the Mark II blows the 90D out of the water. It performs decently in low light, which is my preferred genre, but the face tracking AI really struggles in low light and from angles where the entire face isn't in the shot. For example, if my model is looking over their shoulder and I'm trying to get a partial profile, the AI doesn't recognize that as a face. Usually I can override this by using the area selection in the view finder, and when I can't, the less focused photos still come out noticeably sharper than low light photos taken with my 90D.I've yet to figure out the dual pixel auto focus, but still my photos with multiple subjects have turned out ... MoreIve rented this camera twice now and it's my dream camera in almost every way. There is a small scratch on the LCD screen but it did not greatly impact using it in shoot. The ordering, shipping, and return process was seamlessly easy and the staff has always been kind and attentive in all my interactions with them. 10/10 would recommend using this service to any photographer who wants high quality images but doesn't have thousands of dollars to spend on quality gear.

My all time favorite camera!

I paired my 6D with a Sigma art 35mm and 85mm. After two years of owning this camera and using it almost every day for my photography business I feel like I need to leave a review to guide anyone looking for a reliable camera for their photography business. I specialized in Pet photography and also do a lot of family sessions and the live mode touch screen in addition to single point focus was ESSENTIAL for my pet photos! It was a total game changer! I was able to quickly and easily focus on the eyes with just tapping on the screen! I have tried upgrading to different cameras and ALWAYS come back to my 6D Mii. The colors are amazing and does everything I need it to! The one thing I wish was better it’s ability in low light. The 6D mark II is an outstanding full frame DLSR. This is an upgrade to my T8i as I wanted a full frame camera.Primary use is astrophotography hanging off the back of an 8 inch Schmidt-Cassingrain telescope. I'm strictly an amateur backyard enthusiast.I do shoot photos in the summer of birds and I haven't had that opportunity seeing that it's winter.Canon cameras are most user friendly, well built, and take outstanding photos.B&H provide outstanding customers service and their selection of photography gear is great.

Sports Photography AND Low Light Capabilities? You BET!

I got mine as an upgrade/replacement for the workhorse 7D Mark ii I'd been using for sports photography for a couple years (and over 200k shutter actuations!). This is a HUGE upgrade, especially in low light conditions! It arrived in a Friday and, after a couple settings, put it to work the next day with NO issues. My keeper rate was over 90% so I HAD to choose the best of the best. The next week I was driving through New Mexico and stopped at a town that was once on US Route 66 and snagged a few shots of some of the abandoned house. Again, keeper rate was in the 90% range...100% in low light! (I prefer to shoot in natural light). The file size is big enough to allow for some cropping when using a zoom lens at longer focal range. I have even more reason now.Attached images were from a 30 minute excursion around and into some of the abandoned houses in one of the towns lost to Interstate 40 in New Mexico. All shot with natural light with minimal post adjustments to exposure, contrast and a Monochrome conversion.

It s superb for portraits with 6.5 fps continuous shooting that lets you capture fleeting expressions. The EOS 6D Mark II s compact design makes it a great choice for landscape, travel and reportage photography too.
