Canon have never failed me with their cameras and equipment, and the 80D is no exception. I shoot in both raw and jpg (so I highly recommend getting a solid sd card, and always carry a spare!), both options produce gorgeous results depending the end-use requirements. Everyone who uses Canon knows that the color profile is rich and beautiful. The Canon 80D is a great budget camera with absolute quality results. I used this camera for four years in wedding videography and it produced marvelous rich color in video. The autofocus is sharp and timely, and it works decently in low light. I would highly recommend for up and coming photographers and videographers who hobby or have a small side business to try out the 80D.

Very content with the battery life and overall performance.

A Great Step Up for Video Work
5 October 2021

I bought the 90D to step up my vlogging image quality when I travel abroad. I'm impressed with the fit and finish of the camera. If you like the heft of a DSLR, the 90D will not disappoint. It's very weighty and has a solid build feel. Having said that, you might want to run and gun with your cell phone or smaller camera. It's a lot to carry around and this unit is better suited for studio or outside video work and weddings with a tripod. With a dummy battery power set up, this is great! The accompanying kit lens is no slouch. It's big and beefy and will produce outstanding imagery. With adapters, you can use you vintage wide angle lens in manual to get great footage too. While it has all the bells and whistles, I just use it for video and in that regard you can't ... MoreI bought the 90D to step up my vlogging image quality when I travel abroad. A lot of features packed into a compact, lightweight package
18 December 2019

I bought this camera for my wife, so this is my view of her experience with it. We've both been shooting Canon APS-C (crop sensor) cameras for about 15 years. I've gone through a string of bodies, beginning with the 10D and moving through 20D, 40D, 7D and now 7D Mk II. She's been using the Rebel line until I bought her a 60D. She really likes the small size and lighter weight of the Rebels, but I've always felt they were too light on configurability, compared to the cameras I've been using. The 60D was a nice compromise between the two lines and the 80D is an even better approximation of the control I have in a small, lightweight body. The 60D was a nice compromise between the two lines and the 80D is an even better approximation of the control I have in a small, lightweight body. As primarily wildlife photographers, we both appreciate the focal length bump that comes with the APS-C sensor - something that can be a liability for landscape or portrait photographers. In wildlife photography, we're always looking for the greatest reach in the most compact package, balanced against a high quality image. I've tried numerous compact cameras, which offer extreme focal lengths in very compact, easily portable units, but they have been very disappointing in the quality of the images they capture. The 7D Mk II and the 80D both offer auto-focus at f8 (with limitations), which gives us a big leg up on the previous cameras we'veused in the long lens/lightweight kit department. Now my wife can mount a 2X extender on her 300mm f4 lens and have a 600mm (960mm equivalent with the cropping factor) lens in a size and weight she can handle - something that has never been available before. It's not a combination one would want to rely on too heavily, since the image quality and shooting percentage deteriorate with the slow aperture and doubler, but it offers options she's never had before. Besides the expanded auto-focus support, the 80D offers a lot of other configurability options that I've come to rely on in the 40D/7D/7D Mk II bodies I've been using, like 2 custom settings options in the mode dial (mine have 3, but 2 is usually adequate). Similarly, the menu offers a lot more control over the shooting experience. That said, there is a fairly steep learning curve with any of these cameras these days, and the expanded range of options I value makes the learning curve that much steeper. Fortunately, there's a lot of help available online and in the photography community.

Always simple & just what I need
12 September 2023

I have rented countless times and bought once as well from lens rentals. They are always on time, good conditions, and make everything so easy! Plus the price is unbeatable compared to anywhere else. The canon 80d I have rented twice, just because being a college student I don’t quite have the funds to upgrade my old rebel t5 yet. It is just what I need for any event or shoot I have planned!

Amazing EOS 80d
11 October 2022

Omg this is absolutely the best camera ever. My husband takes a lot of pictures at the drag races and he used to take them with his cell phone. And some of the fellow racers decided to get together and buy him a professional camera for all the memories he takes for everyone for years. I did a lot of research on cameras and knew that I wanted a canon camera. I found this camera with two lenses and the video creator kit for $1200. This camera is awesome especially when we had a couple of our friends who professionally take pictures explain to him about the different settings. He's had it now almost three years and close to almost 100k pictures taken with it. His pictures are amazing. It's great it's WiFi connection to cell phones or with the canon camera connection app. My husband is not good at all when it comes to technology but after canon walked him through he now knows how if we get a new device how to setup the connection and it takes two minutes. We are actually looking to buy another 80d eos for a back up camera. Because at 100k you have to send it in to canon and they have to reset the camera back to 0. We didn't know that until a professional photographer friend of ours told us he was in the middle of a photo shoot and his canon 60d or 70d just stopped working. Called canon and they told him. Calling canon directly omg is a awesome experience. Only buy this camera through Best buy or canon. Make sure you register it on canon. They can pull up your information and know exactly when and where you bought it and if you got a extended warranty. Definitely get one. We haven't had any problems. But everyone we know that got a 90d major problem. It came out about 4 months after we got ours and the reviews were not good.

Canon 20d upgrade
3 September 2018

I bought the 80d with the EF-S 18-135mm lens kit as an upgrade to my 12-year-old 20d. My initial reaction was it has a similar look and feel to the 20d, but with a longer reach zoom with great auto-focus performance on par with the EF-S 17-85mm kit lens on the 20d. The higher resolution sensor, however, comes closer to film in resolution. The large flip-out OLED monitor screen can be read in the dark without glasses (at least I can), and I like the new locking mode dial and lens hood. I added a arca/swiss L bracket for tripod/landscapes, but there is no leather case available from Canon. The camera has wider auto-exposure bracketing and a more images per bracket option to enable deep HDR images. While there are many in-camera image processing options, I always shoot RAW and process in Lightroom instead. Camera RAW and the Canon lenses are well supported in Lightroom. It can sustain 7 shots per second for action shots. The on-camera flash can be used as a master for multiple off-camera slave flashes. ETTL (Electronic Through The Lens) flash control allows the master to use the camera exposure settings and lens focal length to automatically set flash ratios. This supports older optical flash speedlites such as the 430EX and 580EX which keeps me in business. My overall impression is very positive. The manual is mostly well written (except for wireless). The 80d and 20d can share EF-S and EF lens, and the 20d now becomes my backup camera. I use the Canon Camera Connect via WiFi to change exposure settings and trigger the shutter which is very useful for landscapes and portraits. It is not possible to add location information to images wirelessly from a smartphone, however.

This is a substantial upgrade coming from my old T2i. Lots of great features such as focus bracketing, time lapse movie, interval timer, raw processing in camera, creative filters (my favorite: grainy b/w), in camera electronic level, in camera HDR, and more.It has considerably less noise than my T2i at high iso (I'm not sure why, maybe because of the age of the T2i's sensor? or possibly because the T2i has a higher shot count?)The 18-135mm usm auto focus is much better than the old 18-55mm stm. It does have some vignetting at 135mm.If you buy a used one like I did you might get a gray market camera (which they don't tell you), something to consider.

Excellent replacement for my EOS 80D

Being very familiar with the EOS 80D, it was an easy transition to the EOS 90D, and within a day or two, I was using it with ease. My father used Canon cameras, both print and digital for many many years. When he passed, I got his Canon 40D, I later got the 80D, so it was only natural to get the 90D when I needed a replacement for the 80D, ease of use, plus being able to use all the existing lenses I already have was a big plus. As for the 80D, it will get sent off for repair when our trip is over, it will be a back up to the 90D. Thanks B&H for providing me with a great camera and saving our trip.
