This was my first time renting a full set from lens rentals. We ordered 2 cameras, 4 lights, 3 mics, and everything to hold it all together, from C Stands, to sand bags, extension cords and more. It was truly a full production set. I was nervous about the gear getting to the location on time so I scheduled it all to arrive a day before I would be in town to pick it up. I had a notification 3 days before my safety pickup day that my equipment was already at the fedex I was picking up from. We had a lot of equipment, so I expected a lot of boxes. It was expected to be a little pricey because we were having so much gear shipped to us. However the crazy part is that they were actually cheaper than the local spots we were originally looking at renting from. Our shoot was in La, so if you don't like the local prices, try lens rentals and compare the cost!The last thing I want to highlight is my experience with the Lensrentals team. From day 1 they were answering all my questions and concerns with a great attitude. They even followed up with me to make sure I had everything I needed for my shoot. I was able to explain to them what we were shooting and what the equipment was for. They confirmed everything I had was correct, which was nice because it can be stressful renting a lot of gear and worrying that you missed something.All in all I had a great experience here. Lens Rentals has my full trust in production gear.

The image you can get out of this camera is really incredible. Insanely versatile. Shooting a corporate event? Bake in the awesome 709 profile and use the great long gop codec. Shooting a movie? It's got internal raw! It really can do everything. I wish it had SDI instead of HDMI, but it makes up for it with the BNC timecode. And the timecode actually holds sync for a normal amount of time. Some cheaper cameras add timecode, but it drifts so fast as to be useless. This will easily stay in sync for half a day. And I haven't even mentioned the unbelievable battery life. This camera is really awesome.

My experience with Lensrentals was very good. Equipment came on time packaged in a protective hard case, with padding inside. Cables were in separate containers plastic bags and batteries were charged. I only had two issues with my order. 1) the hotshoe on the Canon C70 I rented was loose, which I noticed when I attached the top handle, and 2) the return shipping label was not in the order, but I called and they took care of it right away. Other than that, great experience and I will definitely rent from them again.

I've had the C70 for a little over a year now and this is my A-Cam. Auto focus is really strong and I love that you can choose face only AF. The only knock I'd have against it is the AF tends to slow down when shooting at 120fps but that still hasn't stopped me from shooting fast action sports like hockey with it.If you're looking for just a video only camera, this has got to be near the top of your list. (Yes, it can take photos but you have to re-map some buttons.). The C70 is a little heavy so if you plan on flying this on a gimbal or a glidecam, I hope you've been hitting the gym! On my R6, having those three dials is huge for quick adjustments. On the C70, I can only control ISO and aperture with dials and I have to push a couple buttons to change the shutter speed.All in all, I still love this camera and use it as my primary camera!

I'm considering selling this as there's no return policy with B&H, but I may just keep it for use when I need unlimited recording time, such as recording live performances, speeches etc, and multi source audio recording, however, I will stick to the R series for now when doing multi camera interview shoots. Another disappointment was the C70 didn't fit on my crane 2 gimbal. It was too wide.

The body is just large enough to make you work for it if you want a simple solution and a secure fit! You can always offset your mount and slot it in as designed, but the whole thing becomes a little more cumbersome and requires constant tweaking when you do so. I recommend grabbing an extended sled for the rs2 mount and a bottom plate for the c70 with offset mounting options - I bought both the blue Kondor bottom plate and the small rig plate (small rig was first :( and only the Kondor allows you to offset on the extended sled! This will give you two points of contact from the plate to the cam, and two points of contact from the plate to gimbal - easier to balance and stay balanced, plus the added security knowing the gimbal is supporting the weight evenly across the entire sled, and not just sitting everything on the original rear slot plate. The other gimbal issue I've discovered is that you kind of need the cam's screen and an external monitor for most use cases and with the rs2 at least, converting to underslung correctly requires extra steps because you can't do it with the screen out - not a big deal, but it can be a pain point if you're constantly having to adjust for it.Gimbal tweaking aside, the c70 a lot of strengths in it's favor. The picture when shooting with DGO is simply amazing to work with and pretty flexible. Unless you're use to shooting RAW and have the post workflow to be in that world, the IQ of the c70 among the best I've seen for standard 10bit 422.It's also definitly worth mentioning the battery life, this cam sips battery and a single bp a60 can get you through most of a day provided you're powering down between setups - 6+ hrs easy and it fast boots in seconds, ready to go if you are powered down.The touch screen is also great new additon to the cam as well, I found myself using it a lot for quick adjustments and with the new firmware update, the touch to focus capability has improved nicely, though I'd still love easier access to object tracking on the fly.Just finished a long 7 day shoot in constant sun, heat, and dust, shooting 4k 60 on an rs2 gimbal all day with a two lens setup. Cam never overheated, one bp a60 lasted all day, and the built in ND worked beautifully without haveing to rebalance the gimbal. Cine shooters may be used to that, but I've typically ran a hybrid build for gimbal work in the past and this made a big difference in my day! Not to mention the c70 is just a nicely self-contains body to be shooting on, they give you pretty much everything you need on body and easy access to most of it.The not so great - the RF mount. This is where I feel like this cam is definitly in a transition point for Canon. I typically shoot crop sensor cams so lenses like the sigma 18-35, tokina 11-20 are staples in my bag along with a fair amount of native stills glass (no cine glass in my personal kit yet) The c70 plays very nice with these and I have no issues using them. But the native RF glass is all full frame so now you've got this amazing cam with a new mount that comes with tons of benefits... And you're stuck with older EF glass for optimised performance! Adding insult to injury, they released their speed booster for your older EF glass and while you don't get the same benefits of the new RF lenses, you do get better performance with your old ones!? This is kind of causing me a headache at the moment, I could spend the money on newer RF glass with all of it's benefits but it's limited by the super 35 sensor in the c70, or I can track down older EF glass and get a full stop faster lens and a very near the advertised full frame image! The two lenses I shot with on my recent job? My Tokina 11-20 2.8 (the newer i series) for close in work where the space literally confined me being right next to subject, and a used OG Canon L 24-105 f4 IS USM gen1 I picked up for cheap paired with the speed booster! That effectively gave me an actual 24-105 at an f2.8 when I wanted it - which is an amazing trade off all said and done. But it's a louder, slower lens, it's doesn't have the same communication with the camera as native RF so certain settings weren't available to me. In this way, the c70 is a trade off, your milage will very, but the best combos as of right now is to use the speed booster with older EF lenses or crop lens lenses - either of which are not supported by the native RF mount. Hopefully we'll get native crop sensor RF lenses in the future, or at the very least a new speed booster for just RF, but until that time the c70 is a two steps forward one step back camera, and a solid 4 on the B&H rating scale for me.

The added internal RAW codec gives you a lot to play with when it comes to post, but the XF-AVC codec is also pretty flexible (almost the same). The DGO sensor is incredible. I can miss exposure and save highlights and shadows, and image is so organic/filmic.Coming from an FX3, Internal NDs have been a lifesaver and timesaver. I also like the form factor: it feels like a DSLR with a batter grip (without their grip obviously). For some that may be a problem, and while yes I would prefer the box form factor like the Komodo or somewhat the FX6, I think the fact that you can run this as it is and don't have to rig it up was biggest draw to ... Finally got one of these after shooting with a C100 M2 for years. The recent firmware updates were significant and showed me that Canon still intends to support this camera. I wish it had a EVF but it looks like most cine cameras now do not have EVFs. Really nice image quality, layout of controls, codec choices etc. Very good battery life. I came from the super 35 sensor so I understood the limitations- the crop and only fair lowlight performance. For my documentary-style work I know this solid camera will serve me. Wish the build quality was a little better, and still think it's overpriced, but the performance, the built-in ND's, audio and cooling fan it's a pretty complete package.
For a long time, it seemed that you had to accept certain compromises for any cinema camera less than $10k. The C70 entered the market in a weird place, with some of the guts of a C300 Mark III in a different package. It initially felt limited, but the 10-bit 4:2:2 recording is clean and robust. Using old EF lenses with the speed booster has been fantastic.But then they filled in the blanks with updates, including raw light recording, time lapse (which should have been there), eye tracking auto focus, and the feature set now punches above its price point. The image quality and tweakability is great when you shoot log, and you don't really have to work that hard in grading to get something to meet your intentions. Huge fan of the camera.
