All lenses should have a lens hood to protect them from damage and limit stray light. The Canon ES-65B is made for the RF 50mm f/1.8. It fits well both forward and reversed for storage. It also has a push button release to help lock it in place. A good lens hood although a bit overpriced.

It's a Canon lens hood. It attaches like other Canon lens hoods. I can't verify any usefulness in terms of image quality, but it reassures me I have an extra layer of protection for my lens.

I was annoyed when I realized that this lens hood was not included with the lens (50 mm R). I always keep a lens hood on my lenses to prevent some light flaring and to provide protection. This lens hood (bayonet) fits securely (lock in) and can be inverted for easier storage.
It serves the purpose for which it was created. The locking mechanism is an improvement from all older lens hoods. Considering it is just a piece of plastic Canon completely has their pricing wrong for lens hoods. They are very expensive compared to the competition. Wake-up Canon!
I ordered my RF 50mm f/1.8 back in December and the lens hood (sold separately) was out of stock. Eventually the lens hood arrived in February and it's perfect.This lens hood is even smaller than the lens hood of the EF 50mm f/1.4 (see picture).
A perfect size lens hood for the Canon 50mm 1.8 RF nifty fifty. Can mount backwards and still have clearance to focus.
I an amazed that a piece of plastic meant as an attachment for a lens that costs $199.99 should cost $40. Grossly over-priced compared to the engineering involved in the lens. Canon has got this pricing completely wrong! That said, the device does what it is supposed to do.
I got this for my 50mm f/1.8 RF lens because I needed it. It took forever (several months) to finally get here and it costs more than its worth. While waiting, I bought a cheap screw-on hood, that was barely adequate and I worried that if dropped, it would mangle my lens. This one is much better but is a $40 hood for a $200 lens.
Too bad this cost so much for a $180.00 lens but it works really well (better than some hoods on my older L Lenses). And it kind of completes the package for a simple 50mm prime travel setup for my R5.
