Best Starter Camera (written by a 10 yr. old!)

This camera is amazing!!! My parents got it for me for Christmas! I love this camera very much! I give it five stars all the way! Whenever you zoom in, it looks great, whenever you take the picture itself, it’s awesome, and it focuses so, very well! My dad has a very AWESOME camera, and I have wanted a camera for about a year, and this is exactly what I wanted! The only thing I REALLY wanted was a camera for Christmas! I think this camera is good for 7 and up, (if they can use it well, take care of it properly, and actually want to have a camera!) to... well any age!!! As you can see, I have taken many photos on this camera, and I just got it today! (That’s not even all the pictures I have taken!)In summary, this beginner camera is amazing for well, beginners!

You can buy the cable separately, but Canon should have included it. You are supposed to use wifi to transfer photos, but takes too long to transfer lots of photos/videos by wifi - quicker and easier to use a cable or SD card reader. The wifi is a bit complicated to set up, but I managed it.It comes with a Sandisk 16GB SD card. The case it comes with is OK but it has gaps at the sides at the top, so wouldn't protect the camera from water or dust - so pretty useless, and I will use my old camera case for it.

Not a huge problem.+ The battery capacity isn't huge although it did get me through the day easily enough. If you're going to be recording more video then you might want a spare.

Did not really consider any other camera when needed another. This one has new features - which I am sure I will ignore as on auto it does a very splendid job in bright and dull conditions.Kept the cable from my previous camera so do not need to upload photos using Wi-Fi, also swapped the wrist lanyard as the new one does not have a wrist stopper on it - a feature which should be replaced.Have downloaded the manual and have it printed - not having a small 'go to' booklet is a terrible nuisance, but that is the modern way!Funky purple colour is lovely and the case a handy extra - although camera is a snug fit, so not sure how long it will last. There is no doubt the camera ... MoreThis is my third Ixus - the previous two having died from exhaustion over many years. Ignore the silly gimmicks - this is a very good camera
17 January 2020

Very pleased with this camera which takes good photos. It is very compact and light so ideal for carrying around when hiking. The 'free' case is poor but it fits very nicely in the Lowepro Tahoe CS10 camera case which is worth buying separately for more protection. The the lack of written instructions contrasts with the over-long 157 page online manual which is excessive for a 'simple' camera. That said, most controls are easy to use if you have had a similar compact camera before - even a different make - although some of the functions are a bit of a gimmick. Such as the 'wink mode' where it takes a photo 2 seconds after you wink. But this only works fairly close up - and then not reliably. Such as the 'wink mode' where it takes a photo 2 seconds after you wink. But this only works fairly close up - and then not reliably. The similar 'smile' mode is also not very useful in practice - you end up with artificial grins. But the adjustable shutter delay of up to 30 seconds is genuinely useful if you find the standard 10 seconds not enough. The camera menus take a bit of getting used to - they are initially rather confusing.A common issue with many cameras is difficulty in connecting them wirelessly to a computer. This seems to be either very easy or impossible. I have not even bothered to try - it is easier to take the SDHC card out and put it in the slot on the computer. Or use a USB lead - note that one is not supplied and you need the right type - I needed a different one to my old Panasonic. I can transfer all photos to my computer in less than a minute so why use wireless, which will probably take longer? OK, you may want to use wireless functionality to transfer to other devices or be 'terribly modern' but it is not essential and may well be slower than good old-fashioned wires. Only had camera a month so cannot comment on durability.

Nice camera but wifi is iffy
6 January 2021

The ELPH 360 is a nice camera. I was surprised at how small it was. Easily fits in any pocket. Its almost to small, i.e. for large hands. I've only had it a short time but pictures and videos so far have been good. As far as wifi connectivity. I connected to my iphone in about an hour, the directions were limited so it took some trial and error on my part. Connecting to my PC was impossible, after 2-3 hours I gave up. I followed the video tutorial on Canon's website and tried many different things. It apparently doesn't like Windows 10. The camera found my network pretty easily, and I opened the Add a Device on my laptop but neither device detected the other. I have a cable so I intend to download photos using a cable or from the Canon cloud. This issue is not a big ... MoreThe ELPH 360 is a nice camera. I was surprised at how small it was. Nice photos but flimsy: pack bits not worth the extra
20 November 2017

Bought this to slip into a pocket rather than toting a larger compact around. The pics are of good quality, and layout is quite intuitive. The camera offers a reasonably good range of selectable options, if a little fiddly to apply. The case is rather flimsy, and doesn't inspire too much confidence of it lasting any real length of time, the tab over the connections is a cheap piece of plastic on a short cord, and, for me, setting up wi-fi was a step too far - downloads are done by cable. I miss my old Olympus, where the battery charged off the USB cable, rather than the separate charger this camera has, although the photos from this one are admittedly better. The detailed ops manual is only available online which is a drag - in odd locations the last thing you want ... MoreBought this to slip into a pocket rather than toting a larger compact around. Why don't techs put the manual on a hard memorywithin the units, viewable via the display??The case is dire, and went into the bin almost straight away. The SD card will do as a reserve - I prefer SanDisk ones rather than the unknown brand the pack came with. For the price, it's a reasonable camera, but JL would have served me better if they had sold it as a standalone without the kit.

Good Points: I like the shape of it, it fits easily in the pocket, it's not as square-edged as other cameras I've had.I like the way it focusses and picks up on faces. It's easy and quick to use to take a photograph which is what it's all about. It was easy to set up the date and time.Improvement Points: I find that it's reactions to requests is slower than other cameras I've had and it comes up with a 'busy' icon as if it's having a hissy fit about being asked to do something such as show me my pictures.I was disappointed that I have to take out the battery and put it in a charger - this seemed like a backward step to me, my previous camera could be charged via 3 pin plug or USB port without taking out the battery and this one didn't come with a USB lead so ... MoreGood Points: I like the shape of it, it fits easily in the pocket, it's not as square-edged as other cameras I've had.I like the way it focusses and picks up on faces. It's easy and quick to use to take a photograph which is what it's all about. Impressive image stabilization.

Superb little camera
17 November 2019

This is my third Digital Ixus, the first was bought when they first came out, this one to replace one I lost. It is amazing! While not having a separate viewfinder as my previous one did, the bigger screen makes up for it and I don't seem to have issues with bright sunlight. The quality of photos is as superb as one would expect from Canon. I really like the wifi; it means I don't have to get my phone out when considering a shot would be good to send while on holiday, I can download the shot to my phone using the cameras wifi and Canons Camera Connect app in my own time and at my convenience. It really is a superb pocket-sized point and shoot!
