One final annoyance the Scan Utility work space is a right miserable little window the software people surely could have done better.

A great looking scanner, sleek black and stylish with minimal desk space. But sadly, it simply doesnt work. When trying to scan I receive an error saying that the scanner is not connected. It IS connected, lit up and moving, listed in the control panel and all the latest drivers are installed. I deleted and reinstalled multiple times, tried different USB ports, restarted and rebooted over and over again. Loads of forum posts about this, going back several years. No real solutions that work, I tried them all.FInally I completely wiped my pc, fresh install of windows 10 and before anything else I re installed the scanner still wouldnt work So clearly the drivers just arent compatible with windows 10, regardless of whatever is claimed.

I have two computers one of which I use almost entirely for my hobby of photography. That one has its own allinone printer. My other computer I use for everyday stuff, shopping, paying bills, surfing the net and emails and writing etc. This one has its own very fast, black and white and very economical powder printer. But print is all it does and what I needed was a scannercopier as otherwise I was having to jump from one computer to another if I had something like a document or receipt I wanted to scan or copy. Being a bit short of space this flat bed scanner seemed perfect. It arrived the day after I ordered it via Prime. There is one decision to make decide what you want to do with the disc which is obviously RUN. Then one instruction to follow when prompted which is to connect the USB cable. And there you go Its probably not the best flatbed scanner in the world given the price but I tried a few scans, its simple to use and the quality is perfectly adequate for anybodys needs.I have no hesitation in recommending this product.

Over the years Linux always recognises any multifunction printerscanner I have used. Not this thing at all. My needs are simple and simple scan built into Linux served me fine. It looks the part and Windoz users may well like it, so for them I guess they will be happy. This also seems to rule out Chrome Book so possibly a large market lost by Canon.Regarding StationeryPacks, 5star for getting it to the Azores. Took a while but thats the local sub carriers amp distribution. I was in a restaurant having evening meal when the neighbour phoned me and said a lady is calling you name at your house. How quaint 8pm and still out delivering. In conclusion, if you are a Linux user your choice will be limited if its just a scanner you are after.

Boy howdy what an experience. First off, unrelated to the product itself, Id like to mention UPS saying that theyll deliver this scanner before going oh no theres a problem its delayed now 2 days in a row before finally delivering it to me, completely unpackaged outside of the original box the scanner comes in, with lots of obvious dents on the corners. Really a great start. But lets press on. The scanner itself its very lightweight and small. Getting it connected up to your computer couldnt be simpler put the scanner down somewhere and plug the provided USB cable into the scanner and somewhere in your computer. So far so good, except now you get to the fun part of realizing youre one of the unlucky few who got a completely nonworking scanner. Okay, theres a driver ... MoreBoy howdy what an experience. Getting it connected up to your computer couldnt be simpler put the scanner down somewhere and plug the provided USB cable into the scanner and somewhere in your computer. So far so good, except now you get to the fun part of realizing youre one of the unlucky few who got a completely nonworking scanner. Okay, theres a driver disc with the scanner, but lets forego that generally speaking youre best off downloading the newest ones from the brand itself. So, we pop over to Canons site and grab the latest drivers, which were last updated in 2018. At this point, weve plugged the scanner into the computer Windows 10 has recognized it and installed generic scanner driver for it. The driver installer has also recognized that its there as it asks us to unplug it as part of the installation process, before getting us to plug it back in again. So, everything can see it just fine Great.Installing this driver gets us new item in the start menu called IJ Scan Utilities, which provides with a variety of tools for getting the most out of the scanner. It even recognizes the scanner in the little window popup you see when you start the program up So lets pop in something to scan aaaaand there it is. Cannot communicate with the scanner for these reasons Scanner is turned off. USB cable is disconnected. Please check and try again. Scanner driver will be closed. Code 2, 156, 33.Lets just reaffirm some facts The usb cable is most definitely NOT disconnected as everything including the Scan Utilities program itself can SEE the scanner is there. Likewise, the scanner is not turned off it straight up cant be turned off without disconnecting the cable. Yes, Ive tried taking out the cable and plugging it in again. Yes, Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Yes, Ive tried the drivers on the CD. Yes, Ive tried restarting the computer. Yes, Ive tried using the Windows 10 Scan app. Nothing makes it work. It can see it, but it cant do a damn thing.Well, thats not much of a problem, I hear you say, Just search up that handy code you were given in the errorOh, my sweet summer child, if only it were that simple. Theres a big button there that says Instructions that opens up a web page full of error codes. Guess which three error codes arent on that page at all. Guess what error is shockingly common with absolutely zero proper solution other than the gods shining down upon you and gracing you with a working scannerYeah. Refunded basically an hour after getting it finally. Not good. Id stay away from this thing if I were you, its not worth the effort. Keep looking.

I have owned a number of scanners since the 80s and this is not only the least expensive, but the best of them all. Ive not been able to get the buttons on the device itself to do anything I use a Mac, which may account for this, but the software driver is a doddle to use. The scanner correctly identifies the boundaries of scanned items and faithfully reproduces colours and details with exceptional clarity. Its particularly convenient that a single USB connection powers the scanner as well as transferring data. Multipage documents are correctly collated as single PDFs when required. Photographic subtleties are not lost. Truly excellent all round. Well done Canon

Pros: Produce potentially offered value for money. Cons: However, product didn't work so in the end wasn't good value for money, cost me the delivery charge and the time spent in trying to install. Ultimately I had to visit the shop to return the product. The scanner couldn't communicate with my computer. Even with the aid of a very tech savvy individual (and many hours spent trying to solve problem) this fault couldn't be rectified. Lightweight and easy to use.
21 May 2022

Great product if you just want a stand alone scanner. Simple to use, lightweight and easy to store. The scanner I purchased came with a USB-A cable (not USB-C listed in the specifications) which needs a USB 3.0 socket on your device. The scanner is powered from the USB socket so it doesn't need an external power source.

Pros: Powered by the USB cable, so no additional power supply required. Once configured properly with downloaded drivers and IJ software from Canon, it works seamlessly. Can be set to scan straight to a specific folder, scan directly to a printer (like a photocopier), plus all the usual good stuff you get with a bigger scanner. The fact that it is separate from a printer is an advantage, as it gives better portability for business travel. And it is quite quiet. Cons: Not really.... except find an easier access to the lock on the under side of the scanner when travelling. Perhaps on the side...(?)

Works well but installer dodgy
13 December 2022

I bought this scanner recently. Despite some other reviews it DOES work well. The software installer is the problem - it stops dead at the point where you have to connect the cable. However, the installer DID work in the background (app, driver, etc) all installed OK. But no feedback this has happened. Canon needs to fix this.
