I needed a good quality compact camera for holidays. The Canon G5X Mark ii has a large 1" sensor, a fast f1.8-2.8 lens with 5 times optical zoom that increases to 20 times digital zoom. Most importantly it has an electronic viewfinder - great for taking photos in bright sunlight. It also connects easily to your mobile phone via the Canon Connect app to download photos straight to your phone or even take photos remotely with the app. All in all an excellent camera - one I would highly recommend.

This is a great little camera with excellent features and lens quality. It has plenty of features to help everyone who wants a camera to do everything for beginners to advanced amateurs who want full control. I bought it because I wanted to have a camera with me as often as possible without it being a bother and which gave me better images than a phone can. It is small enough to be carried comfortably and so it becomes the best camera in the world which is the one you have with you when you need one.For me, the sharpness of the images it captures is the most important feature as I hardly take it out of P mode with A and T only used for a sporadically. I hardly use the video capability but I understand from other reviews that it is has very usable features.I ... MoreThis is a great little camera with excellent features and lens quality. My main cameras are Canon 5Ds and lighting is Profoto and Hensel with RAW processing done in Capture ONE. www.pacomarquez.comWhat I don't like about the camera is the somewhat slow auto focusing and the fact that the electronic viewfinder takes 2 steps to activate; ejecting it and pulling the screen out. This I can live with because I tend to keep it out always. The slow auto focus will become a bother if you only need to shoot fast moving subjects. The other 2 similar point and shoot cameras I considered buying were the Sony and the Leica. I did buy the Leica but much to my amazement the lens on that camera did not turn out to be what I expected so I returned it. The Sony is a monster of a little machine but I don't need all that it has to offer. Nevertheless, if quick focusing and great video is what you need, I'd go for that one.All in all I am very happy with the G5 and carry it often. Hope this helps you make up your mind if thinking about getting this one. All the best!

Pros: It is a very compact camera and easily fits in a jacket pocket. Despite its definitive size, it’s fully loaded. A very capable point and shoot that offers full control for those wanting more. I’m a keen amateur and it’s a delight.Cons: The touch screen takes some getting used to but work’s particularly well when tripod mounted. It’s worth taking time to learn where all the ‘buttons’ are.
This camera is fantastic. It's so small that I can take it in a cross body bag anywhere. The grip is large iand textured and very comfortable. The image quality is excellent. In bright light as low ISO, images look really great. In lower light, images get a little grainier, but that is to be expected with a small sensor. Pop up viewfinder is very nice (pulling it out manually becomes second nature after a little while). Also, I keep a protective filter (via Lensmate) over the lens. I've heard that dust in the camera has been an issue for others, but my camera has very little dust. The filter also makes cleaning much easier, since the front element is pretty small. I have an iPhone 13 Pro, and the difference in quality is very apparent. Love this camera.
I have been using a Sony RX-100 IV loaned by a friend and liked it but the 70mm equivalent lens just didn't have enough reach. The newer Sony's have a 200mm lens on the long end but you give up sensitivity and in a small format camera you need every f-stop you can get. I have taken a series of pictures with both cameras and the Canon consistently looks better, properly rendering colors rather than making all the foliage green and ignoring the yellow tints like the Sony. Same is true for flesh tones, and this is in camera RAW where it is most important. Viewfinder is brighter on the Canon and the menu system makes use of the touch screen unlike the Sony.
Pros: Much more intuitive controls than previous compacts. F1.8 -f2.8 lense on a compact: wow! Viewfinder option is brilliant for bright light and contra-jour and diopter adjustment is great. On screen touch display is good and not too intrusive. Menus are easy to navigate. Only had the camera for 2 weeks but I’m very pleased with my choice so far. I rarely shoot videos, but the brief ones I’ve done look good.Cons: Shutter speed dial is a little fiddly (especially with gloves). Pop up viewfinder feels a little vulnerable. These should not be dealbreakers. Possibly improve sound on video, but I use it mostly for stills.
I bought this as a retirement gift to myself. I am planning to spend some time travelling. This camera is small and easy to pack. It produces good pictures straight out of the camera. The zoom lens has a good range and the camera has very good autofocus. Most of all, despite its extensive features, it is very easy to use. I strongly recommend it both for travellers and for anyone who wants to take a step up in quality from what can be done with a smartphone.
This is a fine camera. We have owned quite a few Powershot G series cameras over the years. I have been using a G5 X and decided to upgrade to the G5 X Mk2. In my opinion the image quality is very good. Noise is pretty good. You have the option of turning off high ISO noise reduction, but after quite a bit of testing, I have found that the standard setting works just fine for what I want. The controls are very handy. If you are familiar with the G series controls, they are pretty similar. The dial around the lens is used in place of the previous wheel under the shutter. Easy to use. The pop up viewfinder works just fine. In my experience, I very seldom use the viewfinder, but it does come in handy sometimes. The camera fits into you hand nicely. It is nice having the little ridge on the front of the camera because it gives a positive grip. There is also a little ridge where your thumb goes which helps the grip even more. It is a sleek looking design. There is no hot shoe, but I never used the hot shoes on the previous powershots. The pop up flash is just fine for a little flash fill when needed. All in all it is a great camera to have with you. I bought a neck strap for it because the supplied wrist strap, which works fine, is not my style. I look forward to having lots of fun with it.
Rather disappointed with this camera. If you want to use this in auto only, pictures are good. If you want to shoot in shutter priority, aperture mode or manual it is difficult to use. I found the documentation lacking and non-existing. I have searched for training videos and cannot find them. I have a Nikon and have no problems shooting in any mode. Documentation is excellent and plenty of videos. I was looking for a more compact camera for travel. This is not it.
