Canon RF-S 3.9mm f/3.5 STM Dual Fisheye Lens
Capture more immersive stories with the Canon RF-S 3.9mm f/3.5 STM Dual Fisheye Lens, crafted for the EOS R7 APS-C mirrorless camera system. This lens offers a full-frame equivalent of 6.2mm, utilizing dual high-performance fisheye lenses to capture stereoscopic 3D 180 degree VR imagery with a 144 degree field of view on a single image sensor. This design simplifies your workflow and reduces post-processing time. When paired with the EOS R7, you can record up to 4K 30 fps. Autofocus for stills is enabled by a gear-type STM motor. The gear-type stepping motor (STM) and dual-lens autofocus mechanism drive the left and right lenses simultaneously, making autofocus operation straightforward. The electronic focusing/control ring and left-right focus difference adjustment switch allow precise adjustment of the left-right focus differential. Autofocus is limited to subjects within the image circle of the left lens, and Servo AF is unavailable. Users must switch to One-Shot AF or manual focus before recording movies. The RF mount and compact folded optical design make this lens easy to use in confined spaces. Weighing just 10.2oz, it fits conveniently in most bags, ideal for travel. Canon's air sphere lens coating significantly reduces ghosting and reflections, providing more contrast and consistent colors, even in challenging lighting conditions like backlit scenes. The lens supports 30.5mm screw-on filters at the rear and features a filter holder for cut gel and polyester filters, enhancing its versatility.

This lens will autofocus in Stills mode, and do one-shot (at the beginning of the recording) autofocus in Video mode. However, when powering up it frequently forgets the ability to autofocus, and the only way I've found to fix it is to Reset camera(!!!), losing many of the settings I've made. As far as I can see, there is no menu option (on the EOS R7) that will restore the autofocus. This is, of course, supremely annoying, and I hope that it can be fixed via a firmware update for either the lens or the R7. Another issue is that the lens is not compatible with the latest version of the Canon VR Utility (vum-1-4-0-17-10l)—the utility will not convert the imported image into equirectangular format, making it useless. I have not yet found a way to do the conversion ... MoreThis lens will autofocus in Stills mode, and do one-shot (at the beginning of the recording) autofocus in Video mode. I have not yet found a way to do the conversion using a third-party utility, but perhaps a way can be found to do it in DaVinci Resolve Studio (until Canon fixes the problem).
