Inexpensive but great. I don't have any riding buddies, so I wasn't trying to get anything fancy. In fact I have only listened to music once, just to try it. I like to think that I'm more aware and focused. Just use it for directions and a few phone calls. With that said, very straight forward installation. The unit is super easy to install, only issues would be your helmets ease of disassembling and reassembling.Sound is crystal clear. Even with wind noise, you can hear it very clearly, without even putting it to full volume. The music sounded great as well, but don't use my review to really assess that. I love that it tells you the battery life upon turning on and off. Solid little helmet speaker set.

I bought this to replace a Chinese cheapy that wouldn't fit in my helmet properly. This completely blew me away. The speakers are small and easily fit in the ear cups of my helmet, but still sound good and are loud enough to hear my music at any legal speed. The buttons are large and easy to press with gloves on. I love the ability to use google voice with just a push of the rear of the unit.I purchased a freecom4x shortly after because a few friends just got into riding and suddenly I needed to speak with more than just one person. The freecom's larger speaker doesn't fit as well in my helmet and applies just a bit of pressure on my ear. Bang for the buck, it gets the job done. Buttons are easy to press with gloves on, install was easy, and battery life has been impressive. Call quality is good for both ends of the conversation. But there is really no low end on these speakers. Bass is non-existent. Not that I want the feeling like a subwoofer is literally one centimeter from my ear, but the sound is not robust at all. For the money they give me something to listen to that's overall clear.I personally had difficulty with the Cardo Connect app recognizing the unit, and had to factory reset the Spirit several times. But that might just be my phone (Pixel 6). Bluetooth connected no problem, it was just the app which isn't even required. App just lets you set a favorite phone contact to call with a ... So far, so good. The sound quality is good. The buttons are easy to push. The whole thing is low-profile so it doesn?t get touched inadvertently. I really like the way it clips into the mounting bracket, and that the mounting bracket has a headphone jack on it, since I like to use in-ear plugs rather than the speakers. The auto gain control is just right. I like that I can set it up with the app instead of having to learn a magic sequence of button pushes and LED flashes. As someone who always rides alone, and really only needs a Bluetooth module with a microphone and headphone jack, this is really the perfect device, at the perfect price. I?m shocked that it has taken until the last year or two for something like this to come out.Oh, and my absolute favorite ... MoreSo far, so good. The sound quality is good. As part of the shutdown sequence it gives you a battery level update. No more coming up to the bike in the morning to realize that you should have charged the headset the night before! Brilliant!
OK - so i was REALLY looking forward to being able to use this unit, not only to listen to music but to also answer calls , hands free, through my android app. Full disclosure - no use for intercom or group communication. Solo rider, major purposes for listening to music and or making calls hands free.INSTALLATION - a breeze. Five star. Instructions simple and mostly easy to read. I'm very ham-handed, and, despite my attempts to screw things up, installation went well.FUNCTION - Disappointing beyind words. Set everything up through the Cardo app, set my Android phone to be compatible and - mothing. Voice activated calling was 1 for 20 . Twenty tries, one connection. Using the unit buttons to connect was more successful, but the REASON to buy this in the first ... Using the unit buttons to connect was more successful, but the REASON to buy this in the first place was hands free answering and calling. Nope. Music was - OK. Had trouble again with commands, asking it to play certain playlists or streaming from my phone. Had to pre-set that, along with the playlist I wanted for my rides. Hands free answering..? Non existent. The two calls I got on the bike I had to flag manually through the unit. Google and Bixby were no shows.So- I have not had experience with any other units. Did a lot of reading and reviews before I chose Cardo. Pretty sure, at the lower level products (price wise, not quality wise) they're all are about the same.FINAL WORD - Returned it. And then there's the idea that I coudl bump up to get a cardo voice activated unit. Ehhhhh, no. Don't need to spend $250+ dollars for something like that so I guess I'll go back to hard wiring my phone through helmet speakers to enjoy my music. Incoming and outgoing calls? Probably not a good idea anyway on the bike. If your use is going to be similar to mine, I do not recommend this unit.
This is my third Cardo unit, and I've used it for about 2k miles before writing a review. It's not good.PROS : Good connectivity with my phone. USBC charging.CONS: Same price as the older freecom 1+, but worse. The speaker units are super bad.You either can't hear the person at 40mph, or your eardrums are bleeding because you need to crank the volume to overcome the terrible sound quality. Music is bad.If you're doing highway riding and want earplugs in, the drivers are not loud enough to get past the wind noise and earplugs. Previous units had enough volume to make it work for phone calls and intercom when using earplugs. This one does not. It's use case is below 40mph, without earplugs only. Also, the curved adhesive mounting plate didn't work so great on ... Ive used the older model in my Arai without issue, but I put this unit on the AVG K6, and the curvature of the helmet and Bluetooth mount didn't work very well. Another hit of double-sided tape fixed it.
The unit is small, light, and uses USB-C to charge. The battery life is improved over other obsolete units such as the Cardo Q-Solo, and the unit has a power on/off audio letting you know it's connected and what your battery life remains at.The speakers are absolute garbage and was an inconvenience and a disappointment. I'm not a sound expert, but someone who believes even the most basic songs such as rock or pop should be heard clearly. At speeds over 45mph, the sound becomes tainted with a "tin" sound and the bass isn't present... at all. After riding for 10 minutes, I started to configure my music app to dial in an EQ setting that might help the unit. Nothing worked and I switched to my old helmet. For comparison, my Q-Solo speakers were higher quality and I ... MoreThe unit is small, light, and uses USB-C to charge. After riding for 10 minutes, I started to configure my music app to dial in an EQ setting that might help the unit. Nothing worked and I switched to my old helmet. For comparison, my Q-Solo speakers were higher quality and I used them for 2 years before the covers wore out. The speakers are still fine and weren't even considered to be "HD." The Spirit just doesn't come with quality speakers.I replaced those in my Q-Solo with the $45 option, which have been going strong with excellent sound quality.I have since purchased the Cardo JBL speakers which are amazing. I wish I could buy the unit at a cheaper price and add the JBL speakers and save the hassle of trashing the factory speakers.Buy this unit expecting to buy upgraded speakers so you're not disappointed or possibly buy the HD version. To be honest, just get the JBLs and you'll have nothing to worry about.
Bought this last year, I installed it right away and tried music playback and the phone, music playback was really really low and the phone was good when spoken to but not good enough when speaking to.Bought new speakers for it and another mount to try it with a different helmet, the sound was still lacking to be honest and did not fix the communication problem at all. Also the accessibility for the controls when you're wearing your gloves is not really that good at all. the only use so far for this is when I am riding and using my GPS from the phone, sound for that is good.
I bought a two-pack and the box clearly had been opened and returned as the sticker seals on the box were broken and new ones applied over top that were smaller/different. Also some of the bits inside like velcro stickers were in different baggies for one of the headsets than the other giving me a hint someone took things out and didn't quite put them back 100%.The good news is they have two different microphones for different helmet styles in each pack and lots of goodies to make mounting easy. The bad is one of the units seems to have bluetooth issues. I set them both up at the same time, out of the box both had 50% battery which should be fine. One of them had crisp clear audio when streaming music from my phone over many on/off cycles and playing around. ... I set them both up at the same time, out of the box both had 50% battery which should be fine. One of them had crisp clear audio when streaming music from my phone over many on/off cycles and playing around. After popping the other one into the same helmet (so same mic and speakers) it would break up consistently. The audio would come and go being completely silent for seconds then getting a robotic garbled noise here and there. After re-starting the unit a few times eventually it worked correctly and I was able to walk 20 meters down the hall from my phone and still had perfect audio. But then after restarting the device (off and on power cycle) the audio issues returned with my phone 1 foot away. So it's pretty hit and miss. I ruled out connection issues by fiddling with the speaker connection with both units and couldn't get it to mess up. Also the audio the device plays when starting up (not over bluetooth) sounded fine, but the audio streaming from my phone (over bluetooth) was not.I suspect someone returned the product for these reason and FortNine couldn't reliably reproduce the issue so they said "it's fine" and sent it back out.I'll try again in a real use case with rider + pillion today with two fully charged units and see if the issues return and update my review accordingly.
I've spoken to Cardo and confirmed that there is nothing to do about my issue. Contrary to what the manual says, you must be listening to something for the volume controls to work. That is fine when you are listening to music. It is streaming while you play with the volume controls. However, when synced to a GPS, you can only change the volume while a direction is being spoken. That lasts a couple of seconds, the you are out of luck until the next verbal direction. This is not practical.
