But, a pig is a pig until you can prove otherwise. My suggestion is that you should have run the lines side by side for a couple of years. My guess... you'd find sales of the B17 line would beat out this new one. Then, you can either decide to pull the B17 line, or keep it. My next guess is that the sales of the veteran line woukd be still to great on the bottom line sales of Carhartt jeans. This not an old f*** blowing in the wind. I am, however, a long time consumer, a long time consumer of jeans, and a believer in what works - no matter the direction some believe the wind is blowing in an industry. That wind carries the virus, or plague, I mentioned at the start. Call me silly. Call me stupid. But, history repeats itself so often in the clothing industry. Just once, I'd like to see one company stay the course when it does not need to make a distinct change for the sake of changing. Sometimes, change is good... sometimes great. And, sometimes... not. I guess now that it's done, without a sudden decision to bring back the B17 line, only time will tell how B17 jean wearers will respond. And, to those who wear the B18 jeans... BEWARE... and, I do! I suspect we'll see tge B18 line replaced as well. It only makes sense from a business perspective, after watching the replacement of the B17. For those of you unfamilar with the B18 line, it is exactly the same as the B17, except with a Traditional fit, rather than a Relaxed fit. I wear both. There are times when a relaxed fit with tapered leg openings is perfect. There are times when a traditional fit with tapered legs is perfect. And, the heavyweight 15 oz. cotton-only looks great and remains durable for a long time. Hmmm... maybe that's it. Does Carhart believe it should develop less quality jeans in order to sell more jeans, more often? Ouch! That would go against the claim that the new line of jeans with less cotton, blended with other material, and weighs less than its predecessor, is as durable as the B17. And, if that is so, why has the B17 been replaced, rather than augmented?

Big dissapointment. I will be taking these new jeans back for a refund and will not buy the Carhartt brand any more. There is no reason to.

Do not like this new style. Gimme back my B17 jeans!
9 March 2023

I've been wearing the old B17 jeans for about twenty years. Apparently they have been discontinued. This new style, in the same waist and inseam as I've always bought (36-32), sits too low on the waist and is too large in the waist. I'm constantly pulling them up because they're too low to begin with, and, even with a belt, they just don't fit around my waist as the B17s did. They're either too loose or too bunched up under the belt if I tighten it an extra notch, and they continue to fall down as I walk in them. I might as well keep one hand on my belt at all times, since they need pulling up every few steps. Also, a rivet on the watch pocket seems to be missing. Perhaps it fell off. The pocket is still sewn on, but the missing rivet indicates a lack of concern ... MoreI've been wearing the old B17 jeans for about twenty years. Why would you change your jeans so drastically?I guess I'll have to find a new jeans company again, as I did twenty or so years ago when Levi's jeans turned into cheap junk.

Durablity, Fit and Price Satisfaction
17 September 2023

I've recently lost some weight and went looking for new jeans. I've enjoyed the durability of “Carhartt” brand jeans in the past and the cut of the relaxed fit, tapered leg, fits my body type well. Also, carrying concealed, at four o'clock in an OWB rig, I find the belt loop layout, in my size (42” waist), is perfect to secure my holster and extra mag pouch in the perfect positions. As I mentioned above, I find the material is durable and, even with hard use, I get about four years of wear before I have to replace them. Construction is very good. I am concerned about reports that “Carhartt” has questionable employment practices, and may be yielding to the pressures being applied by the “social justice” movement, but until it’s proven to my satisfaction, I am ... MoreI've recently lost some weight and went looking for new jeans. I was a huge fan of the B-17 jeans Model No. BD5119-M replaced. The change pocket in the front has been expanded to fit both a wallet or cell phone. This is a nice improvement. The material is noticeably thinner 13 oz vs 15 oz (beside the appearance of the material this was the first thing i noticed before putting the jeans on.The appearance of the Model No. BD5119-M material looks cheap and does not seem as durable. If it's not broke don't fix it.I have loved Carhartt over the years but not so much anymore. Even the great t-shirts are now contaminated with polyester. If Carhartt screws up the work coats and we have a real problem.Hate to write this about my favorite brand.

Not the improved B17 at all.
19 December 2022

I read the description and it stated that this was the "new and improved B17". I do not believe that whom ever wrote the description for the new pair has ever worn the B17. The B17 are discontinued and this is what takes it's place? Just no. The fit is different, the pockets are slightly off from the B17, no problem. The change pocket (the little one on the right front) is massive, like I could not get the coins from the bottom! The waist is the same, but the length is a bit long. I put the directly on top of the B17 to measure (same size). The material states it is the same weight, but to feel them side by side, the new jean feels lighter. The patch on the rear pocket is now cloth and not leather. The leg is a straight leg, not at all what I am used to. The Comfort fit 560, which were relaxed fit tapered leg. Also discontinued, hence the reason that I came to Carhartt. Thinking that I had found a new life long jean. The only brand of jean in my wardrobe. It looks as though I will have to find another brand that has a relaxed fit tapered leg jean, until of course they see fit to alienate those of us who like to wear that sort of jean. I have seven brand new pair in my closet so I have some time. I guess they have made their money. If you are looking for a replacement for the B17, this is most certainly not it. Carhartt, please bring back the B17 or at least make these in a tapered leg. Dark Stone was great, I am not too fond of the new colors, but I can live with it. If you could not tell, this was my honest, unfavorable review. Have a great day.

Not what I expected
2 December 2023

I've bought Carhartt for years, but I just got a pair I had to order because no one carries them in my size anymore. I just got them a few hours ago and I'm not impressed! They still have the great stitching and extra belt loops, but that it. The first thing I noticed was there's kind of a stripping pattern in the fabric, and the big problem is they look like they've been "pre-worn" so they won't have that "new" look. I want the new look! By making it look "worn" you're reducing the life of the garment! Also, after reading some of the reviews about the fabric not as heavy as they used to be, I think they're right. Sorry, but you're getting these back. I used to get a loose or wide leg and about ten years ago they discontinued them, I then went with the B-17, guess ... MoreI've bought Carhartt for years, but I just got a pair I had to order because no one carries them in my size anymore. Product Profile Has Changed
28 January 2023

Ordered another pair of B-18 straight fit and they are nothing like the previous straight fit I have owned. Now, because of this model's previous durability, it has been 2-3 years since I have needed to make a purchase. In that time, the B-18 has taken on the appearance and fit of the relaxed model and no longer is a straight fit. The denim material itself is not as "heavy or thick" and it just has a different feel when wearing them. The waist was a little larger so I thought a washing might snug it up; I was wrong. The cut is larger through the seat and thighs and stays that way to the ankle. It is just an overall looser fit. But in this case, this latest pair showed a Nicaragua tag. There goes my non-scientific assumption.

Very disappointed
8 May 2023

Very disappointed. It needs to be made clearer that these jeans are not a straight fit. When I read straight fit and seen the picture I would assume that these are a straight loose fit. The model wears a 32x32 and is bigger than me. I ordered a 34x34 as I have another pair of the same size which I ordered from the Carhartt Amazon store. This pair was way smaller. I could barely even fit the jeans over my legs. The worst part is Amazon offers free shipping to Canada whereas Carhartt charges 30 USD (40 CAD) which I am not being refunded for my return. The jeans themselves were 39.99 which is almost the same price as the shipping. Very disappointed.
